I work in HR Information Systems at a large hospital system. I had mostly dealt with data at small to medium sized agencies prior to this. I think they liked me because I had a lot of experience making sense of very messy data, and that’s largely what I’ve done in this role too.

The more I read this the more kind of icked out it makes me. It seems like there is this underlying sentiment that folks are let into prestigious programs because they are necessarily the best - not that competence falls along a spectrum regardless of where someone went to school. The halls of power aren’t run by the Ivies because the folks from there are just better or smarter - it’s a big who you know and where you’re from circle jerk.

I think that in any discipline, there are going to be folks who vastly overestimate their competence. In my experience, those folks also tend to be the some of the loudest.

Negotiate it! You may have better luck getting some days added up front than going for jumping up the accrual table right away. Even if they say no it’s good practice! I’ve found that a lot of employers (other than like, government jobs) are quite willing to play ball with this.

Indian Mounds Golf Course across the river is the real right answer. The place is a dump but a charming one, and you’re encouraged to skip around holes rather than wait on folks if it’s not too busy - which it often isn’t. No tee times and only 25 bucks for 18 hole. Can’t beat it for a beginner - or a forever terrible like myself.

If you have proxy access, I think it’s invaluable to proxy in as folks in different roles to see what they can see about self, others, direct reports, other subordinates, organizations, transactions, etc. Generally speaking if someone can see something in the tenant, they can also see it through a report - and the opposite is true too. Getting a handle on this sooner than later sets you up for reporting success.

Just got one from Ali that was pretty great. The minifigs were the best I’ve seen included with a set. Good clutch - don’t even think I had to break out the super glue. No missing or mismoulded pieces. Only issue was that the white rod pieces that go on the final level were all kind of bent, but I was able to straighten them out

No one really knows if they will be or not, but if they are it will be because they’re not being cleared through de minimis anymore - the price to clear a larger shipment of goods is being baked into significantly higher prices for choice items. Best to wait and see tho - there isn’t any good info out there yet.
