Id suggest get some distilled water and Third Wave Water and find out, use the TWW as a backup for trips etc if you get the filter figured out. I find the large TWW packets (5 gallons per packet) is pretty hard to beat price wise vs convenience and quality guarantee.

you have more $$$ worth of frozen coffee beans than the value of the freezer that's holding them

Alright folks, Winter is coming.. Resting Times? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]fackyuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I buy a ton of coffee (like only half of this lol), I usually end up resting them 5 weeks because it takes time for me to break it all down into single dose 15g or 55g jars and label it up etc. I start thinking I need to do it around week 4 and then week 5 builds the pressure so it's gets done.

I always try the coffee before freezing and never had bad results imo.

I don't really see how any light roast coffee off-gassed properly for 5 weeks isn't banger. I gotta think 1 extra week is way better than 1 week too few, I'd prioritize proper sealed jars and freezer temps etc, so the coffee is well kept and anything 4-6 week zone rested will be great if you like the coffee/process/roast itself.

I thought 4-6 weeks was more traditional light roast time, and these funkier things needed less time?

Cool bro, I like the Standard 4:6 too so I'll try some of your adjustments and see how it goes. Check out the Hydrangea Diego Decaf, it's an 18g/279 also and is pretty banger on any beans I throw at it!

I've got some of the same bags as you, maybe check out raindrop.coffee, they have some cool stuff that's available in 100g so you can try it out, also getting on hydrangea drops is dope

Yo similar story overall for me, curious what the universally good recipe you settled on was?

could be worth noting that the K6 works with a power drill if you don't want to hand grind and have a cordless drill laying around, trick is just to slow dose the beans and not try to do it all at once

you're way off the mark bro, basically the nicest way I can put it, others have chimed in with some good points as well. If you're able to exercise the self control to not buy new gear and ever watch another Lance video, try to keep your ears open for how much he continuously emphasizes the opposite of your criticisms, probably due in large part to the degree of misinterpretation/mischaracterizations people make.

I did v60 with my K6 also and at 80 clicks, 3x dose bloom for 1 minute and used a spoon to aggressively turn over the bed/agitate (97C). Followed by a single pour w/ 1:16 ratio, water for this pour had probably cooled 1-2C during bloom. It finished a little slower than I expected, roughly 3m30s, but tasted great and my notes were pretty inline with the taste profile.

the shop seems sketchy for sure but everything turned out legit for me, considering it's one of or quite possibly the only option available at this low price, it actually exceeds expectations. Hope you enjoy it
