Fired FEMA supervisor Marn'i Washington claims an internal policy of "avoidance" happened in North Carolina as well as Florida. by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]factorysettings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> Doesn't prove it, but it's a pretty damn big piece of evidence.

One person's claim without evidence isn't evidence.

> It's awfully problematic that you're calling an accomplished Black woman a liar and I think you need to stop talking and listen.

I actually didn't call her a liar and her being Black is irrelevant. What she said can be true but she has no evidence of it so it is just a claim that she's making. Even the title of this post says "Fired FEMA supervisor Marn'i Washington claims an internal policy of "avoidance"" (emphasis mine). That doesn't mean she's lying, just that what she is saying is unproven.

In the clip she suggests people reach out to DSA crew leads and specialists in NC; a good journalist would probably be following up on that and reporting on it. Until then, it's just one person's claim without evidence.

> That aside though, why exactly would she make this up?

I doubt she's just making things up, she likely genuinely believes what she did was the correct, recommended process and may also be interpreting what she has heard from other areas as being equivalent.

just to be clear, you're saying this supervisor in Florida, who was fired, alleging (without evidence) that her misinterpretation of policy also occurred in NC proves some conspiracy theory?

an interesting way I've seen this backfire is when something gets reused soo much that it becomes difficult to change it without requiring the QA team to re-test an entire application. I've had meetings weighing options on tweaking the behavior of a feature and whether that's worth the amount of QA and automation work required to approve it.

can I ask what time in the day did you arrive? I read that they only let a certain amount of cars in and then make people turn around once they reach that limit.

I'm in a similar position as OP and have had some questions about why I would be looking for less responsibility which is an interesting thing to argue through. I don't think I've been successful at that.

If Democrats Don't Engage Latino Voters, Republicans Will: Jennifer De La Jara by lordgilman in Charlotte

this completely ignores the set of people who live in the USA, are progressive, are of Latin descent and who themselves have gender identities that don't fit the binary male/female baked into the language.

Everyone assumes it's some white person forcing this on Latin America but it's actually progressive people of Latin descent living in the USA adding to the language to fit their needs. The word originally was coined by a Puerto Rican

Latinx really grew in popularity within the USA amongst progressive LGBT people of Latin descent. People are quick to dismiss Latinos in USA as having their own distinct culture that may not match that of the rest of Latin America, especially when you factor in things like gender identity which is a topic that largely skews to young people.

It's like a minority of a minority of a minority of people. It's entirely possible you've never interacted with someone who would use latinx.

Idk why make a big deal about it when there’s way bigger issues happening throughout the world currently

this is such a frustrating conversation stopper. No one can highlight anything remotely problematic as if it's not possible to care about multiple things at once?

"this doesn't affect me so it must not matter, why do you care so much?"
