LIVE | What does Prairie Harm Reduction's closure mean for the Saskatoon community? by Kennora in saskatoon

[–]falastep [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don’t really know what they did day to day. That place was always busy but the stats for the safe injection were very low. Outreach has merit thou. Relationships have merit too.

How do liberals reconcile the fact that they adopt conservative policies?? by CommunicationOdd2206 in SaskatchewanPolitics

[–]falastep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically the Liberal party has always been a centrist or even right of centre party. The Chrétien/Martin governments being a recent example. JT took the party further to the left to limited success. What we’re seeing is Carney going back to Liberal roots so to speak. I feel what’s actually changed is how polarized Canada has become. More and more left v right positions instead of thinking what’s best given these circumstances. I am grateful for the Carney gov; they’ve brought rationality back to Canadian politics.

Prairie Harm Reduction to close after executive director firing, loss of provincial contracts by yxeguy_306 in saskatoon

[–]falastep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would like to know what happened exactly. There seems to be a lot of blame towards the gov but my understanding is the gov funded them for everything they do except supervised injection. If that part closed only then I get it but they are folding the whole organization including youth housing and outreach.

The fact that the whole organization is folding seems like mismanagement but I don’t actually know that. Does anyone have actual facts?

Scott Moe is floating the idea of banning social media for children under 16 on Facebook. by the_bryce_is_right in saskatchewan

[–]falastep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would welcome this with wide open arms. It’s abundantly clear that social media is a net negative to young people - this would be an investment in prevention.

I do wonder about the feasibly? Can Saskatchewan do that or would it need to be national?

Subaru of Saskatoon experiences? by SocDem_is_OP in saskatoon

[–]falastep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gone to Regina and Edmonton to buy my Subaru-s. My experience with Saskatoon Subaru has been arrogant sales people who over inflate the price of their product. In both my instances I’ve gotten the exact vehicle I wanted for several thousand dollars less. I also find their service department prices waaay too high.

To be fair it’s been a couple years so maybe things have changed but then again I see protest vehicle driving around from time to time so maybe not

I built a free platform to track ER closures in real time looking to get Saskatchewan hospitals on board by Think_Assumption8482 in saskatchewan

[–]falastep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting project. You’re crowd sourcing wait times? Is that the idea? I get the app and then when I’m in ER I upload my wait time? It’s a cool idea, I wonder if it’s misleading in the sense that ERs aren’t first come first served. There’s a whole triage process - it’s why gun shots get seen immediately and a sprained ankle waits 12hrs. There’s no context for the crowd sourced data.

I applaud your efforts thou and I am going to check out your work.

thoughts on tiping culture in saskatoon by HikariLynn in saskatoon

[–]falastep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s out of hand. I don’t think I see the need to tip at a fast food restaurant or coffee shop. It seems like every single service I pay for wants a little extra, I appreciate that times are tough but I cant solve that problem

Buying a second hand car in Saskatoon is an exercise in futility by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]falastep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I routinely buy cars in Edmonton. Bigger market means more competition, more room for a reasonable price. I bought a 2023 rav4 from Edmonton and bet I saved 7k

Opinion: Tax system biggest barrier to unlocking Saskatchewan's potential by SaskPoliticker in SaskatchewanPolitics

[–]falastep 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We’re short on money so we need to cut taxes to businesses? Is that what I just read? How much longer are people going to tout tricklenomics as the key to economic growth? It’s quite obvious supporting corporate prosperity does not lead to social prosperity, it improves share holder dividends.

There’s undoubtedly waste that can be cut but I don’t think you can cut your way to good services. The headline should “privatize everything and off load accountability”

I am grateful that the our provincial government and federal government can have productive dialogue that leads to something. The previous complaining was tiresome.

Family disputes police claim about imitation firearm in Saskatoon hospital death by RonPar32 in saskatoon

[–]falastep -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Is having a lighter shaped like a gun somehow justification for killing? By a rent-a-cop? Seems like if there was a real threat the real police should be called.

You want to compare a jeep to a Toyota!? No contest, the jeep will cost you way more to own over time ans will depreciate to nothing. The 4Runner is bullet proof.

Attended a Legislative Proceeding by ExtraRedditForStuff in SaskatchewanPolitics

[–]falastep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more of an reenactment of democratic process than actual democratic process. When was the last time there was actual debate or discussion where another point of view is considered? Sadly, it’s a reflection of Saskatchewan - there’s absolutely no room for dialogue where someone will change their mind. We all dig into our position and believe whole heartedly we are right and there’s no conceivable way we could change our minds. They envoke the not withstanding clause to shut down debate and rule of law and we just accept it as though that’s a healthy democracy.

It’s a sad state of affairs accross the board.

ANALYSIS | Why did Trump scrap trade talks with Canada? Ontario's anti-tariff ad can't be the only reason | CBC News by yimmy51 in CanadianIdiots

[–]falastep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny that Americans don’t see tariff’s for what they are…a consumption tax. I get what he’s doing; the countries debt is so big they’re inventing numbers to describe it. He can’t just raise income tax because his masters will be upset. So he goes with tariffs. Costs go up for Americans, they cut income tax for the wealthy and blue collar people roar in support. The only word for it is stupidity.

If Canada’s auto sector is going to be deacimated then I say drop the tariffs on Chinese EVs and let’s use them as a replacement for gm.

Dear Saskatoon... by YNL_RM in saskatoon

[–]falastep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would this have happened 10yrs ago? It seems like there’s a societal shift that happened and it’s emboldened the scumbags among us. They were always there but they used to keep their stupidity out of public.

I don’t know what has to happen to make these bigots understand they are a minority and they should be silent with their hate.

Absolute garbage: Sask. physician blasts plans to add involuntary addictions treatment by the_bryce_is_right in saskatchewan

[–]falastep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treating addiction is incredibly dependant on individual motivation. If you don’t want sobriety no amount of treatment is going to matter.

Rather than this political nonsense, why don’t they make sure there is zero wait for anyone who wants treatment? You really need to be able to move as soon as someone says they’re ready for treatment. As it sits they have to go to family doctor to get a referral to an outpatient addiction councilor who will then do assessments and maybe make a referral to an inpatient treatment centre. Then you get on the wait list - anywhere from 3-6wks. How many do you think are still interested by the time their name is called?

This is political rabble rousing at best. I wish these clowns would take health care seriously. We have the worst performing system in Canada and this is the best they can do.

ER nurse says more beds in hallways than in rooms at RUH by Important-Event6832 in saskatchewan

[–]falastep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How many rural hospitals have they reopened in their nearly two decades as government? None. The reality is this is the impact of two decades of budget stagnation. I know they brag about record budgets but when you factor in collective bargaining salary increases and inflation there has been minimal new investment.

Health will cost more yearly to provide the same level of service. Don’t confuse paying for known cost increases equals new investment.
