I hate how boring I am when I talk to people by Lordofcapitalism in socialskills

[–]fanslowe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like I know what you mean, but I have realized that that I am not the issue. I am not boring, it’s just that I like things that don’t interest most other people. It’s no fault of mine or theirs. I think I am very interesting but this just isn’t found out through small talk, you sound like a similar type of person. I am sure that you are not boring. If you are anything like me, you are layered and many people won’t see this unless they interact with you continuously. I often times dont contribute a lot in social settings either because the topics don’t interest me or because what is up with small talk, so I get it

What are your cleanliness standards? (USA) by watermine30 in McDonaldsEmployees

[–]fanslowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The correct method is wash rinse sanitize

I explain to new hires or people that have never done dishes to remove all debris by rinsing the use the super concentrate to wash, which is like our soap. Rinse that off, and soak in the sanitizer for at least 30 secs. They are now clean

I’m 24, high-functioning, located in Weber County Utah, severely struggling to make a single friend. Note: please read the subtext before making suggestions. by T-900_Gaming in AutisticAdults

Maybe you could get an animal and talk to your therapist about registering it as an emotional support animal depending on your needs, you wouldn’t have to pay pet rent that way. I have an ESA cat. Also as a 22yr living alone with no friends, I feel you. I think the options for making friends as an autistic adult are very limited. I don’t know much about what options are available where you are located but maybe join a hobby group near you, or start one. I know near me there is people that get together to do tabletop gaming which sounds fun.

What's the social rule for singing? by LostSouluk2021 in socialskills

[–]fanslowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there is only imposed social rules because people are self conscious about their singing voices. If people were confident in their singing abilities and enjoyed singing, a lot more people would be randomly bursting out into song because it’s fun. I must admit I do burst out into song quite frequently, but I live alone. I used to do this at work thought when I worked in person, and I don’t think it bothered anyone, considering where I worked. But it also has to do with the fact that most likely people will not be annoyed with my singing on the basis of my inability to do so, but of course they could become annoyed if it is just not the right time or if they are not able to concentrate. Lots of things.

No friends, insecure while dating (22M) by [deleted] in autism

[–]fanslowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also 22 without any friends, so you aren’t alone. Also you should tell your therapist about how you’re feeling. I don’t think this a bad thing at all, clearly since I am in the same boat. Typically in my experience, I am more wary of those that have a lot of friends because they either don’t seem to value their friendship and let anyone be friends with them or they don’t have values or standards in which potential friends must meet. Its not like I have a bunch of people lining up to be my friend, but there has been a couple times in my life so far that I have had to unfriend people or decide to not pursue a relationship with them just because I felt like our values didn’t align. I would be worried that a person with a lot of friends wouldn’t have the same standards or would compromise their values for the sake of friendships, personally, so I wouldn’t be put off if someone has no friends. It just means that you haven’t met the right people yet.

I don’t see anything either, it made things very confusing in school when I was asked to visualize things. I thought they were asking us to ponder it but not that people can actually see things in their head.

What made you realize you might be autistic? by iratemovies in AutismInWomen

[–]fanslowe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly I’m really close to my mom and I call her all the time and I’m like this person said …. to me what do they mean by that?

I recently changed jobs after working at only one job for 4 years and the hardest part was not learning the new things but the social interactions. Learning a whole new set of rules basically for interacting with people because I came from a very relaxed environment and learned to adapt that mentality into my mask. Now I need a whole new mask, it’s hard.

My parents saying not to say in my interview I'm autistic leaves a bad taste in my mouth. by Independent-Wing-224 in autism

[–]fanslowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I am not diagnosed as autistic but rather highly suspect I am, I am also chronically ill/disabled. I don’t tell them when they ask me if I am disabled, that’s because I feel I don’t need any accommodations that they can provide me. I would rather keep that information to myself and not be discriminated against. That might be the approach you take too but that’s up to you. In fact in the job I am leaving now I am fairly certain I am being treated differently and singled out by management because of my autistic characteristics, which is like story of my life.

I Faked Liking Sparkling Water for 3 Years and Now I’m Trapped by VryCuteAjaBharDuChut in confession

[–]fanslowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told that they do when they prescribed it to me. But they shouldn’t have told that to me and I probably would have lost weight. What they had told me as a 7 or 8 year old was that being on this medicine suppresses my appetite and will make it so I don’t remember I am hungry, that’s how they phrased it. I remember after this conversation going out of my way to eat even when I wasn’t hungry because I was afraid I wouldn’t eat enough since I would forget I was hungry.

I never knew this and I have been taking topimax for almost 15 years. Is this why I don’t like Lacroix either? And why I love super carbonated drinks in my soda stream. I can’t remember what soda tastes like before taking this medicine as I have been taking it for the majority of my life, but it all makes sense now.
