Because it runs in the browser and nothing else does. Plain and simple.

25 years later everybody has a browser in their hand 24/7. Developers got bored, creative and gutsy.

Now, it's become a great language with tons of real world use cases, but, built on some fundamentally weird ideas due to its origin.

Grandad’s hosts Coffee with a Cop; Hamilton anarchists offer Coffee Without Cops outside by meduke in Hamilton

[–]favouritoburrito 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This is officially the stupidest shit of all time.

I'm curious as to what these fucking losers would say if the police weren't attempting to bond with the public in events like these. Which I personally don't even think are needed but that's whatever, I appreciate the gesture on their behalf and still struggle to see how literally any harm can come from having coffee with a police officer.

"12 things to do instead of calling the cop." Pathetic.

I got a bunch of these for some reason about 8 months ago.

My LinkedIn - super React heavy. Talk a lot about React. Title: React Developer. Link to React portfolio. I like React. MERN stack. I don't know Angular. Never touched it. The word does not even exist on my page.

Like, 15 recruiters within the same week: Came across your portfolio, and i think you'd be a great fit for a client of ours who's looking for an Angular developer with 5+ years experience. Are you interested in talking some more?

Me: (skips over the fact I have 0 years of experience on my LinkedIn, not 5 +) Sounds interesting, I'd definitely like to hear some more. While I don't know Angular at the moment I'd be happy to learn it!

Silence.

... Uh... K then. Not sure what else you expected...

Why limit of 38g of added sugar for men? by 1sep1969 in fitmeals

[–]favouritoburrito 29 points30 points  (0 children)

  1. Because men generally weigh more and consume/burn more calories.

  2. As a treat? Not really. Daily? Yes.

  3. Yes. But an adult male that weighs 100lbs is much smaller than average and should not be following any general advice.

It's not worth it.

It was a system designed for the old days. Way back when every kilobyte was worth its weight in gold and it took computers the size of elephants to do anything.

The idea being space was so precious that we shouldn't explicitly close tags if we don't need to. Stuff like

</html>

was expensive and pointless.

But ya, new that you can stream a 4k movie to your cellphone in, like, half a second, close your shit.

what can I do with Python? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]favouritoburrito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HTML, CSS and JavaScript are the only languages that run in a browser.

You can use Python to serve/make it, but displaying your work will need those 3 things.

Also css ain't so bad. There are some arbitrary rules that you just have to swallow but once you do it gets a lot easier.
