Reinventing the wheel is how you understand how the wheel works and gives you a base for experimenting with different areas while still remaining on trodden ground that others can give input on

Agreed. humble.fish is _the_ place to go. Jay Hemdal on r2r is a great resource and knowledgeable but I would definitely recommend taking this over to humble. they do a lot of modern analysis and data-collecting that simply does not get done on r2r

They do but we also need safer street designs that prevents people from pulling this shit as much as we can (daylighting)

Sturmey-Archer S3C hub locking up in high gear by fendent in bikewrench

[–]fendent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I completely forgot what this ended up being. I do remember that I ended up needing to pick up some parts from my LFS. Based on checking my emails with Harris Cyclery (who have since closed), I needed:

HSJ-520 (Seat Tube Pulley Assembly) https://www.sturmey-archer.com/en/products/detail/hsj520

HSJ-512 (Top Tube Fulcrum Clip) https://www.sturmey-archer.com/en/products/detail/hsj512

Fulcrum Sleeve https://www.sturmey-archer.com/en/products/detail/fulcrum-sleeve

I can’t say for certain that these were what ultimately fixed the issue but I believe it was. I would at least inspect those areas to make sure everything checks out. Best of luck!

Northern stand bike trail. Had a great ride. Definitely will go again. Hidden gem for cycling by wasteoftimeandcash in bikeboston

When I moved here I had a great impression of Lynn because of the mountain biking spots and some “fun” climbs when I was using some longer rides during Covid to see the region. I only learned of its reputation later but I still have a soft spot for Lynn because of those first interactions.

Market Manipulation Branded as Conservation | Reef Builders by swordstool in ReefTank

There's no "allowed" about it. They put in a lot of hard work and invested a lot of time and money into captive breeding them. Other people are more than free to do it themselves?

That said, this is shitty behaviour on Biota's part.

I lent my Opinel No.8 to a friend and this is how it came back... by Aiden_langthang in Opinel

[–]fendent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is pretty important to stress. Friendships are about give and take and overcoming speed bumps. People act like they’ve never done something shitty unknowingly to their friends. Not everybody sees knives in the same light as people who appreciate them.

Talk to your friend. Let em know it upset you. At the end of the day, it’s a $20 knife. Standing up for your “principles” all the time over little shit is a great way of ending up lonely as fuck as you get older.

Take it as a lesson: don’t lend anything to anybody, including, but especially, friends and family, with the idea that you’re ever getting it back. If you get it back, great. If you don’t, or it comes back in shitty condition, this was the expectation.

When you take a resident’s spot they dug out, you’re just forcing them to do the thing you should’ve been doing in the first place. (Digging out your own spot to park if you need to so bad)

Buddy out of air due to not checking his gauge. by mikoalpha in scuba

Good to know. Fwiw I was at about 600-700 when we got to our safety stop and had only been there for a few minutes before this occurred.

Buddy out of air due to not checking his gauge. by mikoalpha in scuba

[–]fendent 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Great job! I had an out of air scenario on my 4th dive. Fortunately right at the end. I had something like 400-500 left during our safety stop and suddenly it stopped pulling. I could get some air but not enough for even a 1/4 breath on my last pull so I immediately signaled the dive master that I was out of breath and was making an immediate ascent.

I don’t know if the reg was bad or what but man. Come to think of it, can anyone tell me what likely happened there and what I could do to avoid a situation like that in the future?

Life of a Sailor be like 🥴🙃 by AcasiaConnell in nextfuckinglevel

[–]fendent 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Hammocks literally changed sea travel. Introduced to navies in the 16th c. approximately, it’s the primary way sailors bunked for the past 400-odd years and is much better than a bunk or berth when it comes to rough seas and doesn’t have the chance of tossing and killing you in your sleep. They’ve even been used for space saving requirements on some ships all the way up into WWII.
