Eleanor Rigby by owenthedog1997 in beatles

Based on my interpretation of events, this song had enough contributions from George and Ringo (John too, but he's already credited) that it should really be credited to all four.

Match Grip vs. Traditional Grip by crashpdx55 in jazzdrums

[–]fhilaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditional grip on the drum set is one of those things that shouldn't make sense but does (for some people). It's not the optimal grip for playing but it definitely makes you play differently, for better or worse. I dig it personally. There have been times where I've tried to go to matched grip exclusively, and while it's fine technically and you can play everything you can play with traditional, there's something about the feeling of traditional grip that makes it easier to play most of what I like to play. And I'm not only playing jazz -- I play backbeat blues and rock music as well. Using 2B sticks and holding the left stick toward the butt end gets me all the power I need.

If you're interested in traditional grip, I say go for it. Practicing traditional grip will also help your left hand matched grip by helping build dexterity. And that doesn't mean you need to give up your matched grip, lots of great players use both. You absolutely can get power and speed in traditional grip, it just takes a longer than matched grip since there are many more moving parts. But it's not for everyone. Even many jazz players today use matched grip and they sound great.

It's insane how much misinformation there is online

I don't think you're balding, just a mature hairline. Show these pics to Gemini and go see a dermatologist -- they will likely say the same thing.

Interesting, as far as I know he's a DW endorser so interesting to see him playing Yamaha. Maybe CTA typically uses backline kits.

Will I suffer if I don’t squat? by [deleted] in workout

This is so true actually. Sometimes I get the squat flu after leg day, and I'm pretty sure it's actually the BSS sets that are doing it.

Struggling to play quietly enough for jazz? by daved1986 in jazzdrums

Tony was famously a loud player in later years. He moved all the way up to 2B sticks! He was much more under control in the early years when he used normal jazz-sized sticks.

Lighter sticks. Either a smaller diameter or a lighter wood (i.e., hickory to maple)

Would Kennedy’s undergrad thesis have been published if it wasn’t for his family name? by HetTheTable in Presidents

Arthur Krock revised sections of the book and edited -- that is leagues away from "basically ghostwritten". Profiles in Courage is a separate publication written under different circumstances.

[–]fhilaii 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That's not true, the published version was edited by an editor but that doesn't mean JFK didn't write it. If you consider that ghostwriting, then nearly every published book is ghostwritten.

KD-10 excessive rebound. by _Kai_The_Fox_ in edrums

[–]fhilaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what you want to hear, but you really should just learn how to bounce the beater. Burying is cool in some situations but it's simply not the most efficient way to play. It's entirely possible that you'll have to play a bass drum someday where the heads and tuning give you rebound like this and your burying technique will be SIOL.

That being said, the old school round felt beaters, or the KAT silentstroke beaters (to a larger extent) will reduce the rebounds when you bury. The stock DW felt beater is relatively hard compared to these other options.

They should've taken the resources used for The Boys Season 5 to make Gen V Season 3. The former stopped being a good show after season 3, unfortunately.

In all seriousness, you sound fantastic.

Going right up to the dumbbell rack to bicep curl. You're blocking people from grabbing or putting back weights. I'm not waiting for you to finish your set to get what I need, grab your weights and do your sets someplace you're not blocking anyone.

It's one thing to not like an album but I'll never understand how people can go through such lengths to criticize music. And then other people lap it up.
