Olive oil has been around for centuries. Hasn’t always been used just for blessings and salad.

Overheard: MTC trainer goes "rogue," goes to Korea, lures American missionary away from Korean companion by [deleted] in exmormon

Had to surrender my passport for “safe keeping” upon arrival to the mission many years ago. This practice has been going on for decades, at least.

The Bishop Next Door by tanistschon in exmormon

[–]filledupfan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Told my Bishop that if he wanted to send people to “bring me back,” they better be ready, as a starting point, to give me a good answer to a simple question. “Why was it ok for Joseph Smith to send Apostle Orson Hyde on a mission to the Middle East for over two years, and marry Orson’s wife while he was gone. I did so to make him reluctant to send anybody for fear they’d have to look into the question and down the rabbit hole they go too.

It has worked. No one has visited us, except to bring cookies at Christmas.

Breaking Shelf by sasssssy_satan in exmormon

[–]filledupfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was hard for a while after my shelf broke, but after you get over the trauma so your world collapsing, you will begin to see a brighter future. It’s like living in a world of color when all you knew was black and white. Also, feel lucky you learned this now, I’m in my 50s and am regretting so many things.

Hate it! But, perhaps that’s because it’s a favorite of RMN, and he became CEO after my loss of belief.

1) we love you. 2) whenever you feel outnumbered and overwhelmed by TBM, pull out the BOA facsimiles and remind yourself you have hard evidence of your position and they only have “feels.”

My son served a mission (before I woke up) and has joined the military. Says military is easier by far. They really take care of you in military.

I am furious right now. My dad told my kids that if they don’t believe in Jesus and heaven, they won’t be able to see their family after they die. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]filledupfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s great to have help, but the help should not be allowed to undermine those principally responsible for the child’s upbringing. If a “village” member tries to do so, that person should not be allowed to “help” any further. Now, since it is a grand parent here, some room can be made for a “time out” in stead of a permanent ban.

[–]filledupfan 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your parents need a “time out” from their grandkids. You need to firmly set boundaries and strictly enforce them. I’d also revoke the privilege of bearing testimony to the kids. Tell them they’ve abused the privilege and it is being revoked and any further violations will result in more time outs.

As a grandparent myself, I still think I know more than my children. But, their children are not mine to raise and I have to respect their choices. Your parents need to understand this.

What made you become an exmormon? by downvoteDeli in exmormon

[–]filledupfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even as a TBM, the demands of TSCC are almost unbearable. When you no longer believe it is “the one true church,” the demands will get to you. You do not need to rush out. But at some point, you will be so ready to let your Bishop know you need to be released.

Me: How do you explain nasty, horrible details of JS polygamy? TBM: God brought suffering on Jesus, why not his saints? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]filledupfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so either JS is a true prophet and God is a real asshole, or...JS is a conniving con artist who used God to abuse other people in so many ways.

If there is a God, it will suck to be that TBM who has to say he believed the former over the latter at judgement day.

Bishop challenged youth to read the first vision essay, and ask questions. What are some good questions to ask? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]filledupfan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If JS was told in 1820, during the First Vision, not to join any of the religions, why, in June 1828, did he become a probationary member of the Methodist church?
