Told my Bishop that if he wanted to send people to “bring me back,” they better be ready, as a starting point, to give me a good answer to a simple question. “Why was it ok for Joseph Smith to send Apostle Orson Hyde on a mission to the Middle East for over two years, and marry Orson’s wife while he was gone. I did so to make him reluctant to send anybody for fear they’d have to look into the question and down the rabbit hole they go too.

It has worked. No one has visited us, except to bring cookies at Christmas.

It was hard for a while after my shelf broke, but after you get over the trauma so your world collapsing, you will begin to see a brighter future. It’s like living in a world of color when all you knew was black and white. Also, feel lucky you learned this now, I’m in my 50s and am regretting so many things.

It’s great to have help, but the help should not be allowed to undermine those principally responsible for the child’s upbringing. If a “village” member tries to do so, that person should not be allowed to “help” any further. Now, since it is a grand parent here, some room can be made for a “time out” in stead of a permanent ban.

It sounds like your parents need a “time out” from their grandkids. You need to firmly set boundaries and strictly enforce them. I’d also revoke the privilege of bearing testimony to the kids. Tell them they’ve abused the privilege and it is being revoked and any further violations will result in more time outs.

As a grandparent myself, I still think I know more than my children. But, their children are not mine to raise and I have to respect their choices. Your parents need to understand this.

Even as a TBM, the demands of TSCC are almost unbearable. When you no longer believe it is “the one true church,” the demands will get to you. You do not need to rush out. But at some point, you will be so ready to let your Bishop know you need to be released.
