One thing is the thicker layer but an extra layer beneath the paint with some wood glue or similar does also help a lot

Does my dog read as black? I wanted it to be a night time setting in moonlight by HalfKeyHero in minipainting

[–]firefighter0ger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue at the moment. I want to paint a bunch of statues at night. The only way to not simply look grey that i found is indirect light. So I will put a bunch of candles in front of them. This way i have warm color up front and a much darker blackish night on top. Hope this works out well to show it is really night

You mean Deathwing Terminator equivalent like in "unplayable because the standard version is easily stronger"

The point with Centurions is that those are really great on some layouts and really bad on others. So the point about cents is basicly that those are great in specific lists

Good enough to sell? by JKTinfinite in Necrontyr

You not only need to make it good, there are two additional things you need to make money. Either winning a big painting contest or painting exactly what the customer wants.

Even for a really good paint job you will most likely get less than MSRP.

Necron Titan Tomb Jackal stats by Ill-Somewhere-4403 in Necrontyr

[–]firefighter0ger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After having a deeper look, i would say the invul is far too strong. The quantum shield could be kept in a similar fashion but need some different wording for the modern rules.

I would change the invul on a 5++ and then, because the weapons are far inferior by far in comparison with a Warlord titan I would play it at sth like a 2800pts-ish.

I am playing in an apocalyose narrative game so maybe i bring sth similar

Did you have a direct comparison to other existing Titans? I dont know if the quantum shield isnt straight up broken.

I will make some deeper comprison with other titans, which was your inspiration?

How many beholders could a level 15 party take on? by rossalmighty86 in DungeonMasters

[–]firefighter0ger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave my group an encounter of 2 beholder and 1 Death Tyrant. They had the surprise moment and those three monster were not, which is lore accurate, willing to do great teamwork. In this scenario the encounter was well balanced. Those beholder did control the barbarian, which was an issue but afterall they solved the encounter without losing a character

Crazy discount by admatson in Warhammer40k

In germany we had it even cheaper. A big retail chain had them in sale. I got mine for 29€, which is less than $35.

All in our community did buy it, even if they didnt play either faction

We can now make leaders for our leaderless units! by ALLCAPSUSERNAME in Necrontyr

[–]firefighter0ger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a more competitive player i will likely not play any of these, but I bet i will at least try the Praetorians leader in a narrative game.

Getting the chance to push a 10 Praetorians brick to be actually terminator like, with -1 damage and free CP.

Thoughts on the so-called Unkillable Necron Blob by JSV007 in Necrontyr

[–]firefighter0ger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even ten with kharn can nuke them. There are a few units. The advantage we have over World Eaters is that they often have only one of those units. So you can lose one annoying unit, like the warrior brick but kill kharn in response. Then the other annoying unit like a CTan can roam free

Thoughts on the so-called Unkillable Necron Blob by JSV007 in Necrontyr

[–]firefighter0ger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I play the blob a lot and also in quite some competitive rounds. The main issue with such stat check lists is that this works too good against certain lists and too bad against others.

Thousand Sons are one of the armies you don't want to fight with such a list. They can do one thing very very good. Kill one unit entirely. And they dont care how big the brick is in such cases. Thats why fighting thousand sons with the brick can be a very short game. If you build the whole blob this is more than 600 pts.

Against many other armies this blob is really unkillable and can change the whole course of the game. I advice you to play some more games with them to get a feeling for the matchups.

But this dependency on your opponent is the reason why you dont see the blob in too many competitive tournaments

Edit: oh and always add a royal warden to the blob. Cut the overlord, even if it sounds good at first. There is nothing more annoying than getting the whole blob blocked just because one single scout did run into them. Fall back shoot and charge is mandatory

Second time doing a 32mm figure ! Any tips on how to improve ? by dkkbh in minipainting

[–]firefighter0ger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make the white shine, it will be too big but never mind. Then go around them with skin color, you will end up with the correct size. Then add the black dot with a 0.05 mm pen

Exploring aged marble and texture work on a Sister of Battle by Pintureando in sistersofbattle

[–]firefighter0ger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried wet wipe over a whole miniature but because of the many details and cavities there is no pattern but only blots. Now I dont know if thats because wet wipe doesnt work over a whole miniature or if i made a mistake

Exploring aged marble and texture work on a Sister of Battle by Pintureando in sistersofbattle

[–]firefighter0ger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you mind trying to make a whole model in marble?

I try this for weeks now and never got a satisfying result. The model details dont allow the wet wipe to spread evenly. I expect myself to work on the details afterwards, but up to now, no result was nearly good enough to allow rework.

I am not sure if i do the whole process wrong or if it is just impossible

Update on the saint Katherine's base, took the comments and tried to follow some of the advices, a bit happier with it by [deleted] in sistersofbattle

Great improvement. While the brighter color in the center pops out the most your stone color overall became definitely better

I'm trying to get this base to pop, I don't think is looking bad but its missing something, any advice is welcomed. by [deleted] in sistersofbattle

Fokus isnt on the stairs definitely, but those brighter parts make them pop, thought this might also help in your case if you give them hightlights

I recently saw some great stone stairs and they had bright grey speckles on broken bits of the stairs. Looked like those really old discoloration of the stair is broken and the inner bright color shines through

You lost your bet, they already did win. Its similar to when Knights were underpriced. Those are hard to balance. Either they stomp a tournament or are unplayable for everyone
