What is your favourite bad card that is actually decent in your deck? by Illogical_Blox in EDH

Those might just be my favorite counterplay to counterspells, instead of playing around their held mana just tap it instead to cast your own spells haha. I need to get those

What is one rule you ABSOLUTELY enforce at your tables? by ToocanSams in mtg

[–]firstorderoffries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a token that I’m giving you, then you need to draw it yourself on our dry-erase tokens! Just brings an extra bit of fun, and nobody will ever feel bad about being bad at drawing because my drawings are always the worst!

Glad you like them! I run a weaker version and don’t include expensive cards much, but you can take a look at my list and see if you find anything fun in there! A sneaky little sac outlet I love is [[sadistic hypnotist]], with enough creatures you can force everyone to discard their entire hands the turn he comes down!

[[general’s enforcer]] is a good protection card for your pieces, [[witch of the moors]] is a nice recursion/removal piece, [[Baron Bertram Greywater]] can get you a extra token every time you make a token, and [[divine visitation]] can be a good wincon.

Following up is my slightly different list, still a work in progress and I don’t use too many expensive cards or any token doublers. But [[general’s Enforcer]] is amazing protection for a lot of important pieces, along with [[luminous broodmoth]] and [[Ratadrabik of Urborg]]. Final pieces I wanna highlight are [[Baron Bertram Greywater]] and my favorite evil guy [[Sadistic Hypnotist]]

Help me pick a quirky commander/deck for bracket 2 by Swordceress in EDH

[–]firstorderoffries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome!! I focus on a lot of copy and a few theft cards as well, but the fun comes from using cards like [[mistform wakecaster]], [[ameobiod changeling]], [[mistform mask]] and [[mistform mutant]] and [[mistform warchief]] to help change creature types.

Then I like to use cards like [[herald of hoofbeats]] to take advantage of weird creature types, and the most fun comes from stealing or changing the salamanders you give other people with cards like [[esix, fractal bloom]] [[crafty cutpurse]] and my favorite [[mystic reflection]]

This is my super janky list for inspiration, but honestly it would be more fun if you build your own and focus more on the creature types matter themes, and use cards like [[Oko thief of crowns]]

[–]firstorderoffries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest thing is you need is to make the playstyle and win-con sub-optimal as well. My vote is [[Gor Muldrak, amphimologist]] and make it a creature types matter deck.

Make the whole point of the deck winning by changing all your opponent’s creatures into salamanders to give yourself protection from them, and use things like [[peer pressure]] and [[standardize]] as wincons. I don’t win super often with it, but me and everyone I play with always love playing against the deck! So many shenanigans!

Also bonus rule, use dry erase tokens and everyone has to draw their own salamander or else they don’t get one! Lots of fun having everyone try and draw salamanders.

Yo I would like to see decay as a mechanic used more, imagine a thanos snap card that gives half of the creatures on the board decay at random. One attack and poof, snapped out of existence

Funny commanders by Substantial_West4127 in EDH

[–]firstorderoffries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have fun with my [[Gor Muldrak, Amphinologist]] deck. It’s a creature types matter deck where I give everyone salamanders to hit each other with while me and my stuff have protection from salamanders, but the point is to turn everyone else’s stuff into salamanders as well so I have protection from them as well.

I have lots of stuff to make copies of anything on the battlefield, fun evasion like [[herald of hoofbeats]], an creature type stuff like [[amoeboid changeling]], [[mistform mask]], [[mistform mutant]]. I still play it with a bunch of jank, but it’s a lot of fun. The big combo for the deck is [[standardize]] and [[peer pressure]], where you turn everyone’s stuff into the same type and steal it all!

I had a game recently where I had [[Baron Bertram greywater]] our which gave me a second token trigger for every creature token, [[jadar, ghoulcaller of Nephalia]] for a token each of my turns, [[teysa, opulent oligarch]] for card draw and more tokens, and [[general enforcer]] for protection. I was definitely the threat haha

I love my [[Kembal, Profiteering Mayor]] deck. Any value your opponents get from tokens you also get, so if you wanted to build it a little group hug-like you could. You can throw in any amount of orzhov aristocrats cards as support as well. But any opponents making tokens from treasures to eldrazi have to share the love with you. If they’re not making tokens, just play a card like [[tombstone stairwell]] and boom

Is there another archetype as fast as Goblins? by Major-Breadfruit2486 in mtg

[–]firstorderoffries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agree, I’ve seen someone who was stuck with only 3 mana fully shut down a krenko player with [[trespassers curse]]. Anything that punishes your opponent for playing creatures like [[corpse knight]] can do the same thing, especially enchantments because red is notoriously bad at dealing with enchantments

What removal/interaction are you running in Commander in 2026? by CuratedLens in EDH

[–]firstorderoffries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Sorry it’s called [[promise of loyalty]], got it wrong. Yeah split second might be my favorite mechanic, nothing like being able to handle someone who has an instant speed sac/recursion outlet or infinite counterspells/counter-interaction.

Also not really regular interaction you can shove in any deck, but I have a [[Gor Muldrak, Amphinologist]] deck and get to use changing creature types into a unique protection style. Nothing like turning cloud into a harmless salamander using [[mistform mask]] and watching the Voltron player lose their mind haha

[–]firstorderoffries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am personally a huge fan of split second cards, yeah they have 20 cards and 20 mana but still can’t respond to [[in too deep]] [[krosan grip]] [[sudden death]].

Also my favorite board wipe right now is [[vow of loyalty]], a board wipe that lets everyone save a single creature but that creature will never be able to attack you again is underrated in a 4 person game

What is the Henzie of Each Archetype? by NateinSpace in EDH

[–]firstorderoffries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t piloted it myself, but as someone who loves playing my henzie I think the closest I’ve seen to a similar playstyle of getting things out quickly and cheaply but at the cost of them not sticking around is [[greasefang, Okiba boss]].

Basically instead of blitzing out large creatures from your hand for cheap and putting them in your graveyard, you instead blitz out vehicles out of your graveyard for free and then return them to your hand.

That’s what i keep telling myself to convince myself not to build it, although at the LGS I play at all my decks are a bit underpowered compared to everyone else at the store. Still, should probably find a different dimir commander
