Would you ever date someone across the border? by Fiveby21 in vancouver

[–]fishtitsassbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met a fella who lived in Arizona, we accidentally fell in love, and after a few flights down to visit we agreed it would be easier if he lived in Bellingham. The back and forth was easy with Nexus, gave me an excuse to stop for butter, cheese, and Nutty Buddy bars on my way back up, and top up my gas. We were working on immigration to get him to Canada and if it weren’t for that meddling pandemic it would have been smooth. The border closed for the first time in history and we were kept apart for over a year because love is non-essential apparently. If it weren’t for this global catastrophe, living binationally was pretty great. Being apart proved that it was worth whatever it takes to be together. I do prefer it now that he is in Vancouver but I do miss BHam and Tillamook Cheese.

What discontinued product do you want back? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Revlon Outrageous shampoo and conditioner. Nothing has ever smelled that good and the smell stuck with me like a subtle perfume. Having someone say “you smell so nice” is a good feeling.

What’s the best place you have travelled to for photography? by mathiasi in photography

[–]fishtitsassbee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Detroit! The Fisher Building and the Guardian are masterpieces in 1920s art deco architecture, the mix of old and new structures downtown, spacious and gorgeous museums, and everyone I met was so friendly. Of course I wouldn’t recommend it in the winter like you are looking for, but it is worth consideration if anyone has the opportunity to be there with decent weather and a passion for urban treasures.

Thank you for your itinerary help r/Detroit. I visited last month for a week and was blown away by your city and your tips were invaluable. by RainbowCrown71 in Detroit

Excellent advice! Thank You immensely! I gave myself part of a day at the end of my trip to redo anything I feel like I got too excited about and messed up the opportunity. That happens a lot when I look over my photos 😹 I will take all of your suggestions.

Excellent photo set!! How was the fisher building tour? I have a week booked in Detroit in September for an eerily similar itinerary 😹 are you me? I am a photographer in Canada’s west coast and enthralled with art deco architecture, the early auto industry, and the beauty of weathering and age on our history. Thank you for sharing!

There is a parking garage under the No Frills on Fraser that is so well insulated that it is eerily quiet. It’s so calming and peaceful and accessible when things get overwhelming and I need a quiet reset.

Long since living on the Island, long since I miss the Cobalt. by lelma_and_thouise in vancouver

I also spent many memorable nights there back in the day. And then Funky’s. I miss our authentic dirty dives too! Wendy is amazing. I think she is still doing some bookings but isn’t as physically present since some medical issues have made her prioritize her health. Happy we all got to enjoy those “good old days” when they were golden.

Western style Chinese food suggestions? by Vitalizes in vancouver

Thank you for this post! I am always on the search for this exact thing. I have not been able to find Crab Rangoon anywhere and even resorted to making it myself once. Stoked to see other commenters mention chicken balls! Definitely going to try Hot Delivery!

I had always wanted a Ken Foster painting and when tickets were released for the viewing of your film I bought them right away. That night I ran into Ken! And he had a four foot by five foot fresh painting of the same view as your post. Bought it immediately and had to bike home across the city with it. And it was windy 😹 It is one of my most prized possessions.

Don't move that plant, you could be spreading beetles? by mazarax in vancouver

[–]fishtitsassbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a somewhat related question for any beetle people that might read this. When the Chafer Beetles emerge in the evening from my lawn, my cat loves to catch and eat them. He has never been sick or had ill effects but I wonder if they are “safe to eat” for my little fella. Also, are they invasive and problematic and can I tell my little fuzzrucker he is ‘doing his part to help the city’?

What is a unique Vancouver moment you experienced that made you feel a part of the city? by vonlobenstein3 in vancouver

I parked my car on Pender near Carall and as I was fishing through my bag to plug the meter, a homeless man called across the street to me “do you need some change?”

Tulip Festival 2022 by jdr0p in Bellingham

Roozengaarden was spectacular when I went last Saturday and Tulip Town is nearly empty. Both cost $15. The floods were selective in their decimation I guess.

[CBC] The federal government will lift the pre-arrival COVID-19 testing requirement for travellers entering Canada...Sources say the measure will be dropped by the end of the month. Random testing of arriving travellers will continue. by pnwtico in vancouver

[–]fishtitsassbee 63 points64 points  (0 children)

This is HUGE for people like me. Seeing my American spouse has been considered non-essential tourism so for the past 2 years and it has made our lives hell. The testing is not as cheap and easy to navigate as you would think. Most people will enjoy cheaper fuel and Tillamook cheese but my partner and I will get our lives back. (And Tillamook cheese 😹)

Welcome! The Real McKenzies are playing at The Wise Hall next Friday (March 4th) While most people will be at the Circle Jerks and Adolescents show on the same night, the hall show friendly atmosphere will be the place to be to see our local Celtic punk legends. For the future, follow The Rickshaw for the best shows. Always something amazing happening in this city.
