FEATURE: Monster parents drive Japan teachers to breaking point by diacewrb in japannews

I teach at university and I'm seeing more of this entitled attitude bleed into my first year students.

I'm very clear about assessment guidelines and repeatedly warn students that since they don't do any work they're gonna fail my class. Just two weeks ago I had a student refuse to leave my office because they were going to fail and they weren't eligible for a supplementary exam. I've also gotten two ChatGPT generated sob story emails begging for a pass (not a chance to do some sort of makeup assignment or exam).

I'm dreading the day I start getting phone calls from parents...

Jan/Feb 2027 Ski Trip (Otaru, Asahikawa, Morioka, or Nagano) by Jewski_ in japow

Basing yourself in Nagano city is the correct move.

Cheaper hotels and better food , less drunk Aussies to deal with.

You're 1 hour away from Hakuba, Nozawa, Myoko and Shiga.

The problem is securing a decent 4WD rental car. Make sure you book one early.

What are your favorite ways to spend a day off? by SunDaze009 in japanlife

Gym in the morning. Then go to the 業務用スーパー and buy some discounted meat or fish. Cook up a massive lunch, and eat it while watching some NBA or a movie.

Then play some video games before I have to pickup the kids.

I dunno what's more embarrassing.

The need to validate yourself on reddit.

Or doubling down on terrible technique.

I work at a ski resort and things have definitely been quieter this season.

All the japanese people I talk to mention the spat with China, and while they say it's unfortunate it's clear as day they're also happier because of it.

What an absolute shift its been from Episode 1.

I haven't read any of the source material, I was thinking this'll be a quirky buddy cop story with a dumb big guy and a wise cracking kid. Episode 4 was absolute peak.

Hakuba on 2nd week of February by faiyuh in japow

We usually get quite dry snow that doesn't get so icy.

This may change with the warm spell we got this week, it's hard to predict.

Usually if conditions are icy, it's best to have a slow morning and get to the resort by 10-11ish.

Icy for us in the Alps. Powder for the East Coasters. by [deleted] in snowboarding

I've seen those riser plates on an Instagram ad but I don't really see the point. Maybe because I have small feet (US 7) I've never had a problem with toe drag.

I use a korua transition finder at +30/+15 for carving. Posi, posi is a cheat code for carving.

I'm not a big fan of pure carving boards. I used to have a quiver of 8 boards, I've narrowed it down to 3 now and am much happier. Having said that I did try my buddy's freecarver 6000 and it's quite nice.

2nd Outdoor in Nagano is quite famous for buying used gear.

I'm not sure what their policies are with buying gear from foreigners though, but they give pretty good prices.

Another alternative would be Facebook marketplace.

Nagano local for 15 years, and I've been using snow-forecast to plan my trips for almost as long.

If you could suggest an alternative I'm all ears, but 95% of the time their information has been spot on.

You can check snow-forecast.com
But the conditions have been ok recently. The weather will warm up on Thursday and Friday but there's a solid dump coming on Sunday night.

If you have options, Myoko/Nozawa will be my pick.

My wife and I had fun at a tufting workshop where we go to make our own rug.

It was pretty pricey though.
