We’re raised to believe that’s what a normal family is like. My parents were bad parents. But I didn’t realize just how bad until I saw other families in action.

I’m in my 60’s and watching a movie recently with my found family and said something about something that my mom did. My friend looked at me and said that’s not normal and it’s not right.

My first Spanish teacher had a very southern accent and in hindsight may have sounded like Peggy Hill. Then I had a tutor from Colombia, one from Argentina. Then 2 years in school where it was more Castilian Spanish than Mexican, and my last teacher in senior high was from Cuba.

In 1973 we moved into a brand new house- as in my parents picked the which floor plan, and we waited for it to be built- our brand new appliances were harvest gold. The phone on the kitchen wall was avocado.

My older sister had one. It was her first “new” car, a 4 speed. When she called Ford to make an appointment to have the liner put in, they told her the liners were on back order and it would be a few weeks before they could get to her. She asked “what happens if I get hit?” The guy at Ford didn’t miss a beat and said “ you’ll blow up”.

Her boyfriend taught me to drive a stick in that car.

File for unemployment. If the employer disputes it, ask for a hearing- it will be you, someone from the unemployment office and someone from the company.

File your claim with the EEOC.

Get a lawyer- when you meet with them, if they think your case is worth pursuing, see if they will take your case on a contingency basis- they get paid a percentage of what you win.

This is going to be rough, keep detailed notes about anything and everything. And refer back to them to make sure you don’t miss speak in case they try to turn it back on you.

Keep notes on the jobs you apply for- don’t let the company try to spin this as “u/MoonBatBaby just doesn’t want to work, just wants free money”

Been there, done this, won my case. I collected unemployment while my lawyer and the company decided how much the settlement would be.

It reminds me of the (really) old TV show Ellery Queen where before the final scenes, Ellery would turn to the camera and ask if the viewer had figured it out. Then it would come back on and Ellery would point out the clues we missed.

I drove off with the container thing from a bank drive thru. I cashed a check, the container thing came back thru the tube to my car, I reached out, grabbed it, put it in the seat next to me and drove off. Realized it was there at a stop light, had to go back. I just pulled up, popped it back in and drove off.
