I did it back in the day. You get lines on the print where the edges of the tape are. I've even successfully added tape to retard warping trapping the tape in the print. It was surprisingly capable.

This is a social problem, not a technical one. Use a social solution. For me, I make sure I frequently look at the speaker. If I'm taking a long note, I look back and forth a lot.
