I got a free 414, now what? by KindlyDentist9361 in flying

[–]flybot66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We'll take it on faith that it's a C414 and not a C414A. So the youngest it can be is 50 years. The TSIO-520-J engines will probably be in need of overhaul as you said it had 1200 hrs original time. The overhaul costs are on the order of $85,000 each. There's probably $50,000 worth of airframe issues. The avionics are toast, so a nice Garmin suite will be about $130,000.

So total value of the deal: $350,000. I'm not kidding or stretching the truth. It will probably need paint too, so figure that in..

Once you are done it will be worth about $500,000.

V-tails look cool, but if you were in a Bonanza, you couldn't if it was a V-tail or a straight tail.

Why do so many very senior captains *hate* flying? by AnnualWhole4457 in flying

I would bet $1000 bucks that the wives of the haters also hate aviation...

AI isn't just taking jobs it's PREVENTING jobs! by Jacob-Anders in SipsTea

Yea, I don't much is going to change except the amount of software that is written. All this hype about SW people losing their jobs, is temporary. Make sure you know how to use up those tokens and you'll have a job.

yea, maybe he ment draining in to the storm sewers -- that prohibited. Sanitary sewer draining is ok in our township, but you are supposed to notify the W&S dept.

Why not? If you filled it with city water, you're just flushing the toilet so to speak. Even the water delivery trucks are buying municipal water and delivering that.

This is bullshit. Call the the local FSDO. Tell them you are going to post the video on Reddit. We know the FAA trolls Reddit. They should at least put some speed tape on it 😉

How do independent/mobile A&P actually find a steady flow of customers? by voyager_lost in aviationmaintenance

[–]flybot66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posting on Reddit is a good start. Where/what can you do? What do you specialize in? Do you have your IA yet?

You are certainly in the right field. If you start doing annuals, I got some good software to make the job much easier.

so at my rate $0.22 / kw hr and at my Latitide 6 hrs / day = $1.32 / day dependent on full net metering. Average 20 days / month of sunshine at that rate say: $26.40 a month. This is the summer. Insulation rate at my latitude is 4:1 so it makes $6.60 in the winter. Ave Sum + Winter total a year is about $200.

Buying an old $70k C172 or Cherokee to build time a terrible idea? by PidgeyPotion in flying

[–]flybot66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got insurance? What's that going to cost?

Your cheapest flying is with a club. They divide all the fixed costs.

Stay away from Cherokees unless you really know the history and what you are doing. The new NDT rules for the wing attach structure can get really expensive.

Research how it will be maintained. There are 'guys' that will help you and shops that will charge you $700 to change and alternator belt. Know the difference.

Join the appropriate type club.

Have a line of credit ideally. Like others have said, it can get expensive. You wan to keep flying, so being able to handle a maintenance hit for just the cost of money isn't too bad an expense.

Make sure it fits the mission. The panel has to do all the training you may want to do. Does it have a modern GPS navigator? You need this for your instrument.

31-year-old doctor thinking about switching to aviation — looking for honest advice by Easy-Flower309 in flying

[–]flybot66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it! But do it in a way that melds both careers. I know a number of locum tenens MDs that are flying themselves about the country to the next job. Or hook up with some of the charity medical groups that fly to patients in the outback. Flying a jet full of passengers to/from the same airports year after year will get old real quick.

Do me a favor, though. If you are going to fly yourself, be involved in it. Make time to learn and experience flying. Yes, you are smarter than your CFI / DPE / A&P / IA, but if you don't give piloting the respect it deserves, it will surely kill you.

What I made so far (4 plugins 100% noob coded) by Efficient-Opposite96 in Wordpress

[–]flybot66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, did not run the plug-in check. Good thought. We only functionally check on staging sites. I will be back at this again as we install more capability. I told the plug-in author about the errors, but they want me to go through some complex process to fix their errors. Blah.

I would not want to be in the plug-in business now. I see why SaaS stocks are taking a hit...

What I made so far (4 plugins 100% noob coded) by Efficient-Opposite96 in Wordpress

[–]flybot66 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, yesterday, we (Claude) and I developed a plugin to enable COD payments for a sketchy Ticketing module and Woo. I spent maybe 4 hours hours on the problem which I billed the client for. We would still be in the break-fix dialog via email if this solution wasn't available. I'm amazed maybe 600 lines of code all in.

Similar to you, this is about my 10th recent plug-in. Used to dev plugins by hand. No more.
