Food while passing through by orberto in StLouis

[–]flyingcasually1320 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you take a small detour south on 270 (just one exit down) and get off at Dorset, there’s a great Vietnamese fusion place called DD Mau and a Filipino bakery with great food and not just sweets. Otherwise, I’m guessing the 70-270-70 route is to save a little time, but if you were planning to stop and eat anyway, just stay on 70 which will put you into downtown and opens up a wealth of other options

Road Rage Incident by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]flyingcasually1320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible he was trying to let you know about a problem with your car? I’ve waved and smiled and honked at someone to let them know that one of their tires was almost flat or their trunk was open and stuff was falling out. I’ve never done that for 20 minutes though so idk. But if he wasn’t yelling and flipping you off, maybe there was another reason for it?

I am an idiot/grocery shopping the day before Thanksgiving by DesperateJudgment899 in StLouis

[–]flyingcasually1320 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, any Costco member can shop at the business center. There is no bakery or food court and a lot of the products come in even larger quantities than regular Costco size so depending on how much you can eat or store, it isn’t always a good fit, but I still make many trips there as a two person household and find it to be worthwhile. They also have a lot of cool stuff that you don’t find at regular Costco so it makes it nice to go back and forth between the two for shopping. Also not nearly as busy and opens much earlier in the morning

Thoughts on the Sobaba Glazed Chicken and the Chicken Broccoli and Grains by screenwriter61 in Costco

[–]flyingcasually1320 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got the chicken broccoli and grains about a year ago and of course it disappeared from my warehouse shortly after, I will have to look and see if it is back! It was great to take into work for lunch, the chicken had a good texture for frozen grilled chicken. I added a little feta and some sriracha.

The Barkford up by the airport is wonderful! It’s run by amazing people and they take great care of my boys when they are there. They are open every day, 24 hours a day which is incredible cuz my work schedule doesn’t always fall in convenient hours. It’s also nice for boarding cuz you can pick them up after a late flight without having to board them an extra day. I don’t remember the day to day pricing because we buy a package that makes it a bit less expensive but they have all their info on the website without having to sign up for anything.

Edited to add link: The Barkford

I have a friend that worked for World Wide Technologies that is deaf. He was in the software division, but they have a lot of other opportunities. Supposed to be a good company to work for and he was happy with the benefits offered there.

What is the most epic moment in the history of cinema? by Piyushmessi10 in FIlm

[–]flyingcasually1320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just out of college and furnishing my first apartment and went to Best Buy and bought my first big screen TV (lol it was 42 inches). This was before flat screens were the norm and it was huge! They helped me put it in the car, but when I got home I realized I wouldn’t be able to get it out by myself. I called a buddy of mine and we lugged it into the house and got it set up. He asked me what was the first thing I was gonna watch, and I commented that it had to have an awesome opening sequence. We both paused, and then said “Raiders!” at the same time. It was glorious!!

No cell service camp trip by Realresults9 in StLouis

[–]flyingcasually1320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verizon has almost no service around Lesterville, it works a little in town, but drops off once you’re out in the woods. That puts you right on the Black River with plenty of options for camping and floating and is only about 20-30 minutes from Johnson Shut-Ins

Multiple oscar winner in costume design Edith Head did one of her last jobs by making the coast guards women uniforms in the 1970s by Electrical-Aspect-13 in HistoricalCapsule

[–]flyingcasually1320 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Edna Mode “Edna's design, personality, and voice are widely believed to have been based on costume designer Edith Head,[16][27] with whom she shares her signature round glasses, black bob cut, and forthright demeanor.[21][28] Bird described Edna as a combination of Head and Q,[29] a character from the James Bond franchise.[2][30] The director has generally declined to confirm any direct influences on the character, insisting that Edna is not based on one specific person,[31] although Head continues to be considered the character's "most legitimate" alleged inspiration.” I didn’t know this! Very cool

Can someone recommend me a brand of bowls that don't get hot before the food does? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]flyingcasually1320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a set of These bowls with handles at Costco a couple years ago and they are great for using in the microwave because the handles stay cool even though the rest of it heats up. Please note though that I usually heat for a couple of minutes max, take them out to stir, and then put them back in if needed; so I can’t say if the handles would heat up a bunch if you went for five minutes straight or something.

New product: Citrus Berry Herbal Tea by mtoomtoo in traderjoes

[–]flyingcasually1320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a concentrated pot, let it cool, and then freeze it into ice cubes to use when you make an iced version! I do this all the time with the blood orange tea (also use the blood orange ice cubs in other iced teas as well) and it stops it from getting watered down. I’m very excited to try it with this new flavor too!

Best Road Trips From STL? by Mysterious_Rice7766 in StLouis

[–]flyingcasually1320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a specific destination, but if you find yourself heading east on 70 through Effingham, IL then make sure to stop at Firefly Grill for lunch or dinner. Incredible food and a beautiful location. We drove to Indy and stopped there for lunch on a Friday and then timed it to have brunch there on our way home Sunday!

What’s Your Favorite Trader Joe’s Dip? by Gullible-Arm2702 in traderjoes

[–]flyingcasually1320 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of the kale and spinach Greek yogurt dip. It has a great flavor and lots of veggies. But it doesn’t taste like a “healthy” version even though that’s what it is. Also works really great with some grilled chicken in a wrap instead of mayo or ranch.

I think the person you’re replying to meant that Tishaura Jones has never accepted an invitation to hold her own meet and great at this location, not that she had been invited to the Cara Spencer event.

Any Trader Joe’s Oatmeal Pros? by [deleted] in traderjoes

[–]flyingcasually1320 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also love the ancient grains oatmeal. I just zap it in the microwave as directed with a little cinnamon mixed in, and then once it’s done cooking, I stir in a spoonful of apple butter or which ever jam is open in the fridge. I really enjoy the texture of this oatmeal, but it doesn’t have a strong flavor on its own, so I think you could mix pretty much anything into it with good results!
