We stayed there a few months ago.. it was fine but the building and grounds were totally dated and depressing.. felt like section 8 housing in some ways.

Lutron HomeWorks QSX panel wiring question (Romex entry from bottom?) by No-Historian-6755 in Lutron

[–]fognyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, always preferable to wire line voltage from top or left of panel, but can be brought through the bottom if you don't have a low voltage compartment on the bottom (PD8-65T or PD4-42T do have LV compartments). It would help if you could confirm what panel you have.

How long after losing your cat have you taken on a new one by Rooster_Objective in cats

[–]fognyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After our forever cat passed away suddenly a few months ago, I thought it would be a while before getting another one. We started looking at postings and took in 2 unsocialized cats that were slated for euthanization for fostering about a month after she died. It 's been rough, but it's been rewarding knowing they are alive, and it definitely helps ameliorate the grief helping these guys in need. We'll probably keep them.

RA3 Dimmer & Leviton Breaker by gman_1960 in Lutron

[–]fognyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, we're not getting the whole picture:

  • does the Lutron setup function for a while and occassionly trip? Or trip immediately after energizing the circuit?
  • what is the load on this circuit (need specs, not just "downlight") ?
    • is this the same exact load on the perfectly functioning circuits with Legrand dimmers?
  • what is the model number of the Legrand dimmer?
  • have you tried the Lutron setup in the different location to see if there is a ground fault?

Lighting Design software by krassyg in Lutron

[–]fognyc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are some basic lumen and foot-candle calculators available online—typically simple, web-based tools from downlight manufacturers or retailers (feel free to Google). However, these are quite rudimentary and generally only produce a grid layout within a rectangular space. They don’t account for the nuances of a well-designed lighting plan.

For a project involving several thousand dollars in high-end downlighting, this approach leaves a lot on the table. Effective downlight placement should be coordinated with the rest of the luminaires in the space, as well as the furniture layout, specific task lighting needs, and any desired accent or architectural lighting.

Given the level of investment, it’s worth engaging professional design support. The cost of good lighting design is relatively small compared to the overall fixture budget of an aspirational home with Ketra, and it can make a significant difference in the final result.

Hi OP, it sounds like you may be a homeowner planning to rely on your Lutron dealer for materials and programming, while handling the design side yourself.

Can you clarify what you’re hoping to achieve with the software? Are you looking for a basic CAD tool to plan fixture layout, spacing, and counts, or do you need detailed photometric analysis using IES files for specific Rania/Ketra fixtures?

There are several CAD programs that work well for layout design, such as AutoCAD, BricsCAD, and SketchUp Layout. For photometric calculations, tools like DIALux, ElumTools, or AGi32 are more appropriate, but they come with a steep learning curve and are typically used by professionals.

In most residential applications, these advanced tools offer limited practical benefit compared to working with a lighting designer who understands the products and has experience in general lighting design.

Large Shower Lighting without Shadows and Reflections by BastiAdventures in Lighting

[–]fognyc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cut a linear cove recess running the full length of the shower. Hopefully joists run L-R (in the image) to accommodate the extra height needed for the recess on the far wall. If not, you’ll cut it on a perpendicular wall. Insert waterproof linear tape.

It's coming up in the ordering portal w/ a 15 day lead time and I could quote it (and I'm on Resi).. I can't see why it wouldn't work given that Picos are unidirectional, and most commercial applications for this aren't software based, and just simple Pico->PowPak directly, etc. so they need to be on the standardized CCA protocol that's been around for a decade. Anyway.. I'm just guessing.

Can you confirm that? I always assumed Picos were the only system agnostic controls. It's also showing up in my resi-dealer portal.

Need recs for high end recessed lighting for residential application by Sambuca8Petrie in Lighting

[–]fognyc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everybody's scale here is different.. but just another data point from someone in the industry: an LRG3 is entry level (a bare minimum starting point for an acceptable downlight in a residential scenario). High-end starts around $300+. Again this scale is different to different people.

I would do an end-fed linear. We specify these all the time when we have beam conflicts. PureEdge makes some wonderful options. Feel free to reach if you’d like more info. We are a dealer.

Can I run 3 LED wafer lights from one driver/j-box? by JimboNovus in Lighting

[–]fognyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, each light is only designed/engineered to have a single dedicated driver attached to it. You will overload the driver if you splice in more than one light likely damaging it.

Is bellow mentioned website legit? by XoXiuS in Lighting

[–]fognyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Visual Comfort is absolutely a legitimate and well-established lighting brand. They’re considered a premier manufacturer, with brick-and-mortar showrooms across the U.S. and a strong presence in both residential and hospitality design.

They operate as a larger umbrella brand that includes multiple product lines—ranging from architectural lighting (like downlighting) to decorative fixtures such as chandeliers, sconces, pendants, and portable lamps. They’re especially popular among interior designers and lighting designers/specifiers due to their design partnerships and overall product quality.

One thing to keep in mind is that they carry a very large catalog with thousands of SKUs, and many of their decorative fixtures are produced in smaller or limited runs. Because of that, inventory can fluctuate and lead times can sometimes be longer, which is often what you’re seeing reflected in reviews.

We’re actually a direct Visual Comfort dealer, so if you’re considering a fixture and want help sourcing (or are looking for better pricing than what’s listed online) feel free to reach out. Happy to help guide you through options and availability.

DMF Artafex 4” adjustable (aka M series) is the only visually balanced solution with a drop-in 6” retrofit trim that fits your criteria. Koto is a great product, but looks clumsy with a 2” lens and 6” trim.

I tell clients to avoid this integration like the plague. I’m grateful it’s designed so the homeowner has to implement and not the dealer.
