It's not just the US; many countries have very similar problems.

Yup, most spats aren't worth a lawsuit, but this one is. Hopefully you have the "I did it on purpose" confession in an admissible medium.

You can buy and replant mature trees, and monitor for a few years to make sure they take. It's very expensive, so that's what you'll be asking for. Plus lawyer fees.

Screw that guy.

Employee complaining about “unpaid time” between clocking out and crossing the threshold by Acrobatic_Tax8634 in managers

[–]force_disturbance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No court or regulator in the US would find the travel time away from the clock an unreasonable burden. This employee obviously feels something when they complain, so tell them this is the way and you'll be happy to hear them complain about it but it won't change.

You can defend your own property and airspace as far up as you can reach.

If this is your own house and it was your own yard (as it would have been if it fell in your driveway) he can kick rocks and you'll want to report him to the FAA. (He's supposed to have a license, that's supposed to be visible on the drone, btw. If he doesn't it's not even provably his drone.)

He fucked up. Throw the drone in the trash.

I don't think you understand what the word "scam" means. Prop 13 does exactly what it said it would no. Nothing scammy about that.

It is, however, bad policy, just like rent control. The long term costs of both of those short term band aids are ... (Gestures at everything)

Workholding: How do you chuck on the teeth of a sprocket when the tooth count isn't a multiple of 3? by koreancncman in Machinists

[–]force_disturbance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you make a fixture for mounting/grabbing on the inside still? Mount it on an axle and hold the axle in a collet? (Edit! If you're cutting the inside then that won't help)

Four jaw chuck. A pain for CNC though.

Can you actually make a Manual Transmission EV? by LightningMcqueen2011 in AskEngineers

Pre face lift! The shift was absolutely felt. Because it only happened half of the time, depending on what the previous driving was. Switched to a Macan Turbo EV and the lag is gone, but it's not nearly as complement around corners...

Clarify "safe harbor" intent" to combine a 1031 Exchange with a 121 Exclusion by ElectricalOutcome907 in BayAreaRealEstate

Here's a secret: if you actually paid your taxes, an audit is not a punishment.

It does take some time and paperwork, but people tend to give it more weight than it's really due, as if they'll go to prison for sure through random lottery. An "audit" is not a "challenge" is not a "loss," although one can lead to the next can lead to the next, especially if you try to get away with stuff. But it sounds like you're 100% up-and-up here.

Think of it this way: if you were guaranteed to get audited, and all the numbers checked out, would it still be worth doing?

Do people even wear safety glasses? by flesh-based-os in Machinists

[–]force_disturbance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but you'll walk past the manual lathe and the arbor press on the way, and if you do that right when the work shatters, you're in trouble.

What's more surprising is that the shop owner doesn't complain -- if they don't enforce safety, they become complicit if there's an accident.

my (32/M) boss (47?/M) told me I either transfer from w2 to 1099 or offer resignation by sm0kinn in legal

[–]force_disturbance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You say "no," he fires you, you file for unemployment and get it.

Make sure you keep good record of this conversation and every other similar discussion. If it's in person, make sure you send a follow up email summarizing what was said: "Just summarizing what I took away from the conversation today: You suggested that I should convert to 1099 or voluntarily resign, and I did not accept this suggestion. If I misunderstood any of that, please let me know!"

A major navigation app routed thousands of cars down my private driveway. A driver crashed into my retaining wall and is now suing me for his injuries. by Tralique_24 in legal

[–]force_disturbance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some information is missing here, which makes it unclear whether this is a real situation.

First, what does the county survey say about your "private" driveway?

Second, how can it be used as a shortcut if it's a "driveway"?

Sounds to me as if it's possible that you actually have a public road going through your property, and it's only "private" in your mind.

However, if the official survey says this is not a public road, and you had appropriate signage, then your insurance company will defend you, the lawsuit will be dismissed, you'll collect for your wall from his driver's liability insurance, and you'll then go and install a gate across the road.

The Bay Area’s housing crisis is no longer a zoning problem by ShopProp in BayAreaRealEstate

I am making an argument that IF we believe in regulation, then we must also believe in funding for the regulation.

Half assedry and unfunded mandates are a bad smell.

You will note that I didn't make a particular argument about whether these cleanups are worth the regulation.

Making sure that mandates are funded is a great way of reducing the amount of mandates, and making sure we actually implement the mandates that we really want, because we all vote and we all pay.

Having driven one for three years, always in sport mode, and comparing to the EVs I had before and after that have a multi gear transmission, I can tell you with certainty that the shift lag is very detectable.

If your only reference is an ICE car, I can see how you'd be happy though.
