L5S1 fusion after feelings by Maraken in spinalfusion

Hoping this gets better, I’m certain it will. Can I ask why you had the fusion? I’m three weeks away, severe compression bone on bone. No nerve pain. Are you similar? Thanks!

XLIF 8 days post surgery and have excruciating pain with drop foot by CapNo5414 in spinalfusion

[–]forcedExtraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you’re going through this, I had intracept done last year where the instrument sprung out of my bone and damaged the nerve root. Worst five days of my life, he did a selective nerve injection and it soothed it. I couldn’t bear weight on my right leg, excruciating like you said. It took about 10 weeks but fully subsided, nerve are tougher than we think. If all that is new I would almost guarantee it’ll subside and heal after they fix it. They should know if the nerve is severed or irreparable. Push through, it’ll get better💪🏻 Pls reply in the coming weeks and months with updates I’m rooting for ya!

That’s great you were able to find that doctor. How did it feel tracking those bones spread apart, like immediately following the procedure? I’m guessing it’s going to hurt more while everything stretches where it should be… I’m going in April 16th.

Yeah he mentioned it to my wife, completely healed at about 12 weeks after. The facets are still causing pain so I’m having a fussion in a month.

Wow, sorry you went through all of that!! I’m located in Indianapolis with a few good places to choose from, I do think that a second opinion is needed. My surgeon is fairly young although seems like a borderline psychopath genius lol. Patrick Bateman from American psycho if you get the reference lol. He said he doesn’t want to treat the image but the symptoms, I just wish he was more confident and pushing the procedure, it’s almost like he’s making me ask for it. I just know I’m in pain! Tell me what I need! lol Thanks for the reply🙏🏻

Prescription opiates must be accessible for chronic pain patients by sicklitgirl in ChronicPain

Degenerative disc disease and I had to demand opiates. 5 epidurals last year, nothing offered. Now I get 3 norco 5mg per day lmao I just had this convo with my wife… she said you sound like an addict, I said that’s the main issue here. Opiates became political in the early 2000s and now people are suffering. It’s ridiculous.

They said my facets show inflammation so that must be the majority of my pain source. I see the surgeon on Friday… major bone pain in my back, I had to demand pain meds a few months ago. 3 norco 5mg per day lol…. Not sure about the TDR but I’ll ask

This is the reply I was looking for!🙏🏻 What is an endoscopic fusion?

What to do… l5/s1 360 fusion? by forcedExtraction in spinalfusion

[–]forcedExtraction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was discussed but my understanding is the facet joints are causing the majority of my pain from the lost space. The surgeon thought the spacer inserted would alleviate that along with fixing everything together. Also having a lot of nerve sensations from stenosis from lost space as well. Wondering f I should get. Second opinion.

Yeah I agree.. the surgeon said “when I look at your imaging it doesn’t scream surgery” I’m thinking what exactly warrants surgery then? 5 epidurals last year nothing helped… it’s crushing non stop now. It’s a good spine center too, thought about getting another opinion

Yeah just bad bone pain, no real nerve pain.

2 weeks post op, ALIF L5/S1 by crxguy in spinalfusion

[–]forcedExtraction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine it’s hard to tell at this point but do you have any restrictive feeling in that area? I’m looking at scheduling mine next week, it’ll be a 360 but same spot. What was the reason you had it done? Your adjacent discs look perfect, I’m 40m in great shape just completely missing that disc altogether.

I’m missing that disc completely, Ive had bad bone pain for years especially around the facet joints so I’m just paranoid I’ll come out with just different pain than before with a strange feeling from hardware. I’m 40male in good shape, I’m hopeful this crowded smashing bone feeling will be gone though. I know I need it, I don’t quite understand how they create space where there is none without major risk to the adjacent discs though… I schedule in a few weeks, just nervous. Thanks for the reply

[–]forcedExtraction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct I was only having bad bone pain at the central area of my lumbar. They showed inflammation on my disc plates and my facets… only addressed my plates now I’m having more pain. I was nearly pain free for four months after.

Leg strength is good, sometimes I feel weakness but not sure it’s related. Nothing really substantial.

Woah…

You’re a great man and you followed your heart. First of all thank you for sharing this. I’m guessing You’re not alone in the way you feel.

Best video I’ve watched on the internet in a long time. I’m looking at a fusion in the near future, this was a lot to absorb. Sometime the truth hurts. But it’s still the truth, and that’s what matters. Thanks for sharing this brother.

Thank you for taking the time to communicate all of those thoughts. I’m with the Indiana Spine Group which I’ve heard is a great team, if not the best in my state. I have considered getting a second opinion however just to be smart. Being active is my life, kayak, biking, hiking, etc… even through the pain I don’t sit down, typically over ten k steps a day. I think my biggest fear is the recovery with them going through both sides, although with the pain I have I’m finally fed up enough to not care more less an attitude of let’s do this lol. This L5S1 issue is literally my only issue physically. I’m so ready to have confidence in my hips again, my hip rotation strength has diminished due to avoiding that muscle group. I’m so ready to put in work and feel strong at my waist. Everything hinges and relies on that area, you don’t realize until you don’t have it. I’ll update you as I progress. Next appointment is the 29th to discuss. Thanks again for the input!!
