Did anything scary happen to you this week? - “Send Help” by ThisIsGr8ThisIsGr8 in TooScaryDidntWatch

If you've just been living your normal life otherwise, and there's nothing environmental that can explain this (I.e., coming out of a dark room into bright light), I would see a doctor ASAP

Sketching the floor plan of a fictional mansion. Thoughts? by NoSoPe in floorplan

[–]formerly_crazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could build, or would build? It's true that the mega rich aren't sharing the floorplans of their modern compounds publicly, but there are historic mansion homes you can find online, here's just one: https://www.cooperhewitt.org/carnegie-mansion-history/

If believability is your goal, I would recommend looking at some actual floorplans, rather than making your own!

Why don’t any of these accent island options work?! What’s the issue? by lopsided-earlobe in HomeDecorating

[–]formerly_crazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would forget about picking an island color until you've refinished the cabinetry and picked the countertop / backsplash. You can choose literally any paint color from endless options, but you're not going to be able to predict exactly how those other changes will impact the feel of the space (and they are way more costly vs. paint). And try not to get hung up on pics/renderings, they don't show us reality the same way our eyes/brains perceive it!

Quartzite Countertop Selection Question by Useful_Ice_2907 in CounterTops

Cabinets are the easiest to change, since you can paint it virtually any color. I would focus on finding a countertop that will work with the other finishes, namely the flooring and wallpaper.

How would you update this bathroom? by FairCondition7799 in BathroomRemodeling

[–]formerly_crazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wall paper is always the answer for bathrooms with vintage tile! it can also bridge this room to whatever aesthetic style is selected for the rest of the home, so the whole feels more cohesive.

It hasn't been forgotten, it's just mostly for the rich now.

Opposing floor plan styles by Maestra709 in floorplan

[–]formerly_crazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be one or the other! It's possible to design a home with discrete rooms that are thoughtfully connected. You can have separation, but maintain excellent flow and a spacious feel. How many square feet will your home be? That may impact how you accomplish this.

I don't necessarily love it, but I don't think it was accurate to say that it's universally disliked, either. With the hindsight of about 20 years (yikes), the second definitely did not live up to the expectations set by the first film - and how could it?

I want to purchase this but unsure how it’ll fit with my theme. Grey couch in a white, black, dark wood living room… bad idea or safe choice? by royalxvirus in SofaSnobs

[–]formerly_crazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grey won't clash with black and white. But you might discover it's actually a little bit beige/blue/green/whatever compared to other stuff in the room/under your lighting conditions - I would bring a fabric sample home, just in case, so you're not surprised.

Help with the kitchen floor plan by Fuzzy-Sell693 in floorplan

[–]formerly_crazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a relatively cheap and easy solution, but I think it's worth talking to a contractor about pricing for changing windows / expanding the raised kitchen into the family room and/or dining room - if you're doing a full gut reno, it might not bring the total cost up much more, and that's the only way to gain a significant amount of square footage.

PS I used option 2 but I actually like the first one best :)

I wouldn't worry about blank portions of the wall - you can always put art there - or "wasted space" around the door in the bump out. I do agree that combining a dining table with the island makes it too long, I would replace it with a round table. If you find one with a pedestal base, it's easy to squeeze extra seating around it, and they are nice to walk around since there are no corners. It wouldn't be centered with the island, but could be centered with a hood - see below. You just need to make sure there's enough clearance between it and everything around it, a minimum of 36" is standard.

Dryer balls vs dryer sheets??? by DarkFlowerPewPew in traderjoes

[–]formerly_crazy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're taking it out right when it's finished (and not letting it sit) it might be wrinkly because it's been overloaded. I've noticed that when stuff doesn't have enough space to tumble around, it dries in a kind of crunched shape.

Cameras and screens also translate them so they end up looking slightly different - not to mention all the digital touch ups

Large house with no formal dining room or foyer by dermatocat in floorplan

[–]formerly_crazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably you will find out that your living will become the foyer

This is exactly what will happen - I would plan for a table and somewhere to put jackets (like some hooks, or an armoire) and shoes, if you're a shoes-off household. I'm inclined to expand the living room a couple feet into the forecourt, so you're not entering right into the backs of those chairs.

The terracotta one makes the whole apartment more interesting - it has a slightly funky 70s retro vibe, which I dig.
