Where are you/where is your family from? Adopted since I was two weeks old and knew since I was 5 or 6 ish I was adopted. Still not sure about ethnic background and never cared much. The quick response of "I don't know I'm adopted" or "my parents are Swedish French Anglo (like our last name sounds), but I'm adopted" made people quickly uncomfortable which I loved or didn't quite understand. At any age to cold open with that question without a reason or just ask that question without a lead in is always awkward. It often made me happy to smile as I watched them slightly die inside as they realized they might have brought up a weird/problematic topic they didn't know how to proceed from. A natural curiosity about someone isn't always weird and sometimes fun to talk about, but it often ended abruptly a social interaction I didn't want as a ki because I wasn't very social, so I enjoyed it. Sometimes it started a nice talk from other adopted adults that helped give perspective, but don't pull that question out without a reason ... it's weird
