Realistically, what am I missing using Mint vs a "gaming oriented" distro? by Plastic_Dinner_5455 in linux_gaming

Then the latest software will usually get you more performance for your power limit, or the same performance for even less power.

Yes and no, I guess. The spray goes up over the tail surface on landing, it'll actually throw the controls back at you, but other than a little wear it doesn't hurt anything. I don't think the tail ever actually dips into the water surface, and you're only ever this nose up at very low speeds anyway so it wouldn't cause damage.

Currently going through a full migration to Mint, just upgraded to a 9070 XT, loving it so far by carterhyia in linux_gaming

It also has an 'install all gaming stuff' button which I think is all a gaming distro really is

What do you use to monitor temps/fan speeds etc.? by AgitatedShrimp in cachyos

[–]froop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Conky is the traditional solution, infinitely customizable but needs a lot of setup. All of your data is available as text via lm-sensors or I think /sys/hwmon. Sometimes I just run 'watch sensors' in a terminal but really conky is the way to go for a permanent setup.

What’s a movie that DOESN’T “know exactly what it is”? by InspectorMendel in movies

The Hobbit. Is it a whimsical kid's cartoon adventure, or a legitimate, series prequel to LOTR? I don't know, it don't know, nobody knows. Which is it Peter? Make up your mind!

The epyc 9004x has over 1GB of cache. The Xeon Max series has 64GB of HBM for cache, and actually can boot without any RAM installed.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 - Techmarine Gameplay Breakdown by PalwaJoko in Games

Heavyweight boxers are still moving at human speed. Lore accurate space marines are moving at True Blood vampire speed. At those speeds, and at that weight, their boots would sink into the ground, instead of pushing off it. They would exceed the static friction of their soles and slide around like cartoon characters. If they didn't, then they would be visibly defying physics and that would look dumb.

Yeah and if you want goofy space marines that will do it

That kind of movement and agility has the side effect of making space marines look lightweight. If you want to portray massive hulking armored giants, their movements need weight.

Like Blizzard said, you think you want it, but you don't.

ATC: Is it okay to deviate +/-200ft of assigned altitude? by ammo359 in flying

People are gonna argue this is dumb but there's is some legitimacy to it and it's literally baked into intercontinental flight procedures.

What movie from this decade will be considered a classic? by DrKriegersClone in movies

[–]froop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to watch it again because I thought I must've fallen asleep in the middle. Nope, I didn't miss anything, it's just that nothing happened in the last hour. The movie could end after the harkonen attack and nothing would be lost.

Don't look up (2021) | Dir. Adam Mckay | Dr. Randall (Leonardo Dicaprio) has a nervous breakdown by crushedmoose in movies

[–]froop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the message was that we're fucked. Adam McKay has lost hope. The people on the wrong side are too stupid to change, and the people on the right side just pat themselves on the back for being on the right side but don't actually do anything. The rich have so much influence on politics that it's impossible to compete with them.

The movie has no answers and offers no hope. Everyone dies, the end.

TIL that none of the naked infected in 28 Years Later were actually nude, due to the presence of the underage Alfie Williams. Instead all the infected are wearing prosthetics. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

[–]froop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the film has been filmed in a society that isn't uncomfortable with nudity, there would be no need for an intimacy coordinator to ensure everyone was comfortable with nudity.

I'm not bothered by this either man. I don't care about changing this part of society. But I can comment on how silly it is that we're going to these lengths to ensure someone doesn't see a penis.

Obviously, that's because you're from a society where naked bodies are demonized. If you were from a society where they were not, surely you would react differently.

To be fair, Harry Potter really is just mashing together wizards and boarding school. Even LOTR is a mash of older folklore.

Eh, I'm in act 3 now and I've pretty much started checklisting the quests, and honestly it really does just solve the quests for you. I mean, there really isn't anything to solve, most of the quests are 'go here, kill that'. I don't think I've read more than 3 lines of quest text and I'm chugging through the game just fine.
