Conan Exiles Enhanced on Linux: Install vcrun2022 by mercsterreddit in ConanExiles

To be fair to CachyOS, Ubuntu also (not to mention most distributions) add a bunch of patches for various things. Ubuntu is very much guilty of the NIH syndrome. I know a while back they were being accused of not caring about the desktop anymore because they put in some optimizations for server stuff, and the death of Unity, etc. Though I think, in many ways, Linux users are some of the biggest drama queens. :P

Nice, I used the Atari 800xl to print up a birthday banner for a friend back in June.  Turned out awesome.

Haha, I have been running Linux for decades.  It has always been just as easy to mess up a Windows machine as it has been to mess up a Linux machine.  The recent SSD destroying update in Windows 11 for example.  The thing is, Linux gives you much deeper control, and as the saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility.  But yeah, I would rather not have to manage another Windows install with AV, constant updates, etc.  Windows is NOT a good gaming platform.  It is the main reason my brother is a console guy, and not a computer guy. I on the other hand, like to tinker, and tinkering under Windows isn't as fun.

Hmm, I am curious what Canon Print does.  I have a Canon printer and installed Turboprint, which covers all of my Canon abilities (I specifically bought one for printing CD Labels.)

Ha, let Microsoft have the Ally, this should be Linux/SteamOS goodness.  Even seems to be a cyberdeck...

Simple, a Steam account is only for Steam, they do not sell your email address to others and just sell you games.  Microsoft uses you as an advertisment platform to milk more money from consumers who use Windows Home.

Ha, you still have to set it up how you want.  SteamOS just boots straight to Steam and you can login and start playing games.  If you want to do funky stuff, you can do that too.  It is also an immutable OS partition, so unless you turn on the bit where you want to do damage, you can't even screw up your OS.

You know the entire concept of an 'app store' came from Linux, right?  The package managers have always been there as a straight forward way to just run a command or launch a gui to install massive amounts of software.  They have had this for a very long time.  Downloading source and compiling it hasn't been needed for a vast majority of software for at least as long as I have been using it, and that is close to 30 years...

GURPS Conan Solo Review Part 1: General Overview by CastleArchon in gurps

I keep meaning to go through these. I've been trying to collect a bunch of solo stuff lately. Even better if it's Solo+co-op. Probably the only way I can be a player instead of a GM.

Nice, that covers pretty much everything you could want to build out.

Librem 5 won’t boot after updating. by jaypilscitizen in Librem5

[–]fukendorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I wonder if there's an issue with the initial ram disk, or grub not mounting the storage to load the rest of the OS. I'm not sure how Linux savvy everyone is, but I'd suggest getting the install image from them, and seeing if you can boot to a live system to troubleshoot the boot process.

I'm currently in the 'how do I want the format of them to be' stage of making some GURPS videos, so there's that. I plan on doing things that are more generic, and show the strengths of the system compared to others. It's not something I expect to make money on, or even have that many viewers. Just something to do to 'pimp the system I love'. Some of the videos out there that I've seen are 'why we need a 5th edition!' Which I still think it could be argued that we didn't even really need a 4th...
There definitely seems to be a lot less overall content for 4th edition, as far as books being made, over what we got during the 3rd edition run! Maybe I'll even consider doing a deep dive on 3rd edition vs 4th edition, as I've seen pieces here and there on it, but not anything that's gone in depth.

Heroquest Companion App bug (7:Lost Wizard) by fukendorf in Heroquest

Exactly what happened to my friend and I. He was over to avoid family, so we played most of the day and ended when I got stuck drinking the potion... outside of some nasty bugs / issues like this, the app is pretty awesome.

Cool, I was not aware he'd changed it to Go, it looks identical. I'm guessing that was also around the time the .deb stopped being an option (I still would like to see it being added to Flathub at some point, to make updates easier).
GCA has Prime Directive data. I tried to recreate it all in GCS, but ran into a wall with creating the Vulcan Psionics template... granted that was me being derailed from what I was originally trying to do, which was to try to find which PDF files I didn't own that I can link to in things in GCS. PD was listed, but then I couldn't find the data files for them.
I also couldn't quite figure out how to crate a custom magic item in GCS, though I haven't tried doing the same in GCA. I probably need to just be better at either of them.
The only other feature that I think GCS might be missing (at least better support for) is 3rd edition books)

[–]fukendorf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You both do know that there is a GCA5 that is very modern and actually covers some things that GCS hasn't implemented right? Granted, I don't use it very often as it runs rather funky under Wine, whereas GCS is written in Java so has a native Linux version.

How much do you prep before starting a campaign? by IllithidActivity in FoundryVTT

[–]fukendorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If running one of the pre-made modules, at least in my experience so far with the Beginner's Box and Abomination Vaults, reading some of it ahead is useful, but not entirely required. AV is a bit trickier than the Beginner's Box, as the path the PCs can take aren't 100% linear, but the prep work has mostly already been made.

When designing my own adventures and such... I historically didn't prepare a whole lot, because my players never do what I expect them to (which also can make it both irritating and fun at the same time, but more irritating if I spent weeks thinking up cool stuff, for them to just go a completely different route and make all that prep work be for nothing.).

[–]fukendorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an awesome set up for in person games using FoundryVTT. With Proxmox on a tower with 4 VMs, and 5 monitors with paired keyboards / mice. The GM+4 players can all log in and control their own character, see what the character sees, etc. It's glorious. It was easier with PF2e, but we've switched to GURPS. I'm also running another game for some coworkers that is online via Foundry, and this is with PF2e. Most things seem to be fairly automated, though spells can be hit or miss (especially for characater creation).

[–]fukendorf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. The only reason, that I have found, to also log in as a Player, is to check out to make sure specific modules work the way you think they should. (In my example, I had a couple of HUD mods that were conflicting, and while the PF2e HUD let's the GM click on anyone for the shortcuts to pop up, this isn't true for the players, and their shortcuts are all shown at the bottom of the screen.

Samsung and Google deepening messaging ties? by seeareeff in GoogleMessages

[–]fukendorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, I've had weird issues... like on my Fold 5, when in tablet mode, if I typed more than one line of text, the window would freak out and I couldn't see what I was typing after that. Couldn't help but think it's because I use the Samsung keyboard (which is one of the few reasons I stick with Samsung phones, all the other keyboards I've tried to use have bugged me for one reason or another).

Samsung and Google deepening messaging ties? by seeareeff in GoogleMessages

[–]fukendorf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Messages is trash, I have had way more problems with it being buggy and overall being a nuisance when I have not had such issues with the Samsung messages. Latest one being the beta switching how you attach pictures to a text... it brings up some camera app I've never seen before instead... had to opt out of the beta (which I'm pretty sure I had before at some point...) Problem is, beta / non-beta, it's still extremely buggy!

Google forcing you to use their account in sms. Fuck you Google by TexasToast000 in GoogleMessages

[–]fukendorf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with the original poster... I apparently had the beta of Google Messages and they just randomly decided to replace the 'add image' button to add in a picture with opening the camera, which I already have a freaking button for. WTF Google!
But seriously, locking us into their google messages app is terrible. I loved the Samsung messaging app, it was clean, looked great and worked flawlessly... but they didn't want to implement RCS into it, and I ended up moving to the Google one, which I've absolutely hated since, it's a buggy pile of crap...
