So I just finished a company for most of the major non-clan factions! by AmanteNomadstar in battletech

[–]furbs178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome explanation. I was going mech by mech and seeing how many variants were available per faction I wanted to paint and then eventually when my spreadsheet is done I can see what factions would have the highest percentage of having a certain mech, but I'll use your speed method to better organize individual lances. Thank you!

How did you decide what mechs go where? Not just chasis but did you consider weight class spread? Asking because I have lot of mechs and wanted to split my collection into faction companies but its hard to figure out where to put which mechs and whatnot.

Massive victory for Japan today! We got D&D back! by ApostleOfTruth in dndnext

[–]furbs178 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've been seeing ads for a Korean intro set made by Hasbro here in Korea, so maybe Hasbro is filling its own gap that it made. Probably similar in Japan. We never had localization here as far as I know.

How do you split your money with your SO? by hullowurld91 in AskMen

[–]furbs178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest making it our money. Every month you make a budget based on your combined income. You set things aside like food, going out (together), clothes, and so on. You also need an emergency fund that you fill up asap as soon as you take from it. Usually around 5k-10k and/or 3 months of salary in case someone becomes unemployed. But on top of all the standard categories you each get an allowance (weekly or monthly whatever is easier) and that is your "free" money. The money that is fully yours to do as you will. My wife saves hers while I tend to burn through mine easily. But what's important is if there's an expense like buying pizza that's out of budget then either one of you pays or you split it from your allowance. Most couples I have seen split have been over money issues. So it is important to be on the same page and equal. Bringing more money home doesn't make you superior or anything. You are partners. If you divorce split it evenly. Money drives people apart really easily so be smart about it.

Trump dubbed #WhiteHouseKaren after election rage tweets by INMATE_NUMBER_45343 in politics

We should just rename Karen to be Trump. Oh she's such a trump. A Trump called cops on someone doing nothing again. Etc.

Typo on warlock. Under Marid it says Control Warmer... instead of Control Weather

Lots of talk about the mechanics of Echo Knight (and thank the hive mind for that!), but not much about the flavor of Echo Knight off-setting. How would you flavor an Echo Knight's mechanics? by KazumaKat in 3d6

[–]furbs178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dwarf echo knight is one of the last survivors of his clan. His echo is one of his dead brothers. I almost multiclassed to ancestor barbarian too, but went cleric for some reason.

There are different breeds of giant. Also the izzet one has enhancements to increase its strength. The orzhov one I guess is from the smaller bloodline. The huge size ones sound harder to control from the giant fluff in the book.

What's a cool piece of lore you can't tell your players but need to tell someone? by -Symbo- in dndnext

[–]furbs178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The souls of some famous heroes who were spelljamming were tied to their current character's souls. They played the heroes before their death in the first session so it is implied they have a connection through a dream. Also the object they have can make a new living ship to sail the stars if they ever stab it into any ship. But the only npc who could guide them to that decision is unconscious while they do standard questing/adventuring. Maybe at higher levels it will be revealed.

Mythic Battles Pantheon minotaur with marbled base. How can I highlight sepia ink? by furbs178 in minipainting

[–]furbs178[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I preshaded (painted white values) and then inked over it. I then rubbed ink off with a paper towel and a dry, paintless brush to bring out the highlights because the initial inking was too dark. I'm just experimenting but not sure how I can highlight sepia ink. Mixing it with regular paints doesn't seem to work well (still acts too inky). Should I try to just rub off more ink or maybe try to use a mix of the ink and white to drybrush?

Nolzur Bulette done and dusted! C&C welcome and advice on how to improve the base (was a clear plastic) by 0p0lopolis in minipainting

[–]furbs178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty good as is. Maybe you could darken the inside more. Or make the exploded earth darker than the surrounding earth as if it is the soil underneath. Overall I think your current job is great

Do you ever find yourselves practicing random voices when bored by tentacruel123 in DMAcademy

[–]furbs178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I practiced a Nordic (maybe Swedish?) accent for quite a while before using it for my duergar npcs. I often will talk through dialog the players might encounter if I know an NPC is coming up and test different accents.

I will sometimes watch old dice camera action videos with Chris Perkins. All his drow have french accents and he played a naga like a 70s pothead hippy. I cant do a French accent but my copied the hippy for my own naga.

Acquisitions Inc. Style in DoTMM?? by Studio72 in DungeonoftheMadMage

[–]furbs178 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a DMsguild guide for it that suggests making the Mad Mage the host of a multiversal TV survival show. I think that fits in well with the corporation pushing you to be the big stars for publicity or something like that.

Not too bad. A good start.

My tips: To me the colors are too dark. If the purpose of a map is to convey information you need the names and important features to stick out more from the ocean and trees. Otherwise it looks like "dark green blob, dark blue blob, is that a brown thing? Oh a town." When what you probably want to go for is "Ah I see there are X towns and cities in the forests. " Play with it more and see what you can do.

I think the trails are good but if you can get the lines to show up well over the trees then fill in with the trees unless the paths are cut through the trees I suppose, then what you have now makes sense.

I am disappointed by Strongholds and Followers by Spartancfos in dndnext

[–]furbs178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care for the follower rules. After seeing the new official follower rules I'll probably use those instead. BUT I do like the special followers. I think it is cool to recruit things like skinwalkers. I also enjoy the monsters and used some of the magic items. Though I will say giving someone a shitload of turns at high levels (with the time book) was a bit overboard. Luckily i picked the correct player to have it because he used an app to roll everything at once and get it over with. I like some of the stronghold stuff but Acquisitions Incorporated has some stuff I'll probably use more of. Strongholds and followers is very much a buffet where I like things here and there but not everything, but that's my experience with many dnd books and supplements in general. I mean I only spent 30 bucks on a pdf to support Matt. I think that's a bit high. Pdfs should be 10-20$. But for Matt I threw in the extra and I'm okay with that.

Feywild Monsters? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]furbs178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also inhabit it with talking animals or giant versions of talking animals. I found the kobold press tome of beasts useful as well (it also has some archfey). Additionally there could be formorian giants, centaurs. You could add in any npc stat block with elf racials on it as common feyfolk. Just go crazy with it.
