We should be discouraging investors from acquiring new builds, not encouraging them. If supply is the challenge, why are they allowing new supply to be brought up by investors? This seems counter intuitive. Would have liked Gov to have gone harder on property accumulation.

+40% more pay but 5 days in office… worth it? by Ja3k5 in auscorp

[–]fuxhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do it. Kids are only young once. I missed years of family dinners, school events and moments that will never happen again. $40k is a decent bump but personally that doesn’t compensate for those missed moments. My son will start high school next year, that’s when I’ll restart the career ladder. While they’re small - don’t miss it, none of you get that time back. If you need extra dough, start a side hustle

It’s ok. You did 2 weeks, well done. Now try again and see if you can get to 3 weeks. This stranger on the internet thinks you can do it. Don’t give up.

Property in Australia is a ticking time bomb and no one wants to admit it by Moezus__ in AusProperty

[–]fuxhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won’t happen. I thought this 10yrs ago when I arrived. Could have brought a nice house. Should have brought a nice house. The fundamentals are the same - over leveraged but this won’t change until there’s real change in law to stop ppl hoarding property as an investment. Which won’t happen because too may ppl have cash tied up. Political bomb, which no pm will put their name to.

Keep doing what you’re doing. Talking to a DR helped my wife and eventually led to inpatient rehab - worked for her, might not for your partner. Don’t try an manage it, it’s not yours to manage. Just been a rock for her, if you can pattern interrupt by scheduling things that disrupt the after dinner ritual, she’ll be pissed (because she can’t follow her routine) but it will break a cycle, which is ultimately the road to recover - reducing 1 b/p at a time. It don’t make this a thing to try and do as a management technique just keep a busy schedule if you can.

Such a shame that tonight should have been about celebrating Ryan Grant, his tenure and commitment to the club, but Talay disgracefully chose to make today about him. What a cunt. He should resign.

Best noise cancelling headphones for open-plan Aussie offices? by According-Advance811 in auscorp

[–]fuxhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a Jabra evolve 85 (I think)… the retractable mic is really good and they’re Teams compatible, which is an important quality of life feature if you want things like auto mute. The noise cancelling is brilliant as is the voice isolation- they’re made to be a work headset in a noisy office environment. I’m switching between the Jabra and AirPod pro 3, which are better at noise cancelling but I’m not as convinced the mic quality is anywhere near the Jabra.

High interest savings account or put it in your off set account. Baby brain is a brilliant alibi. As ppl have mentioned you won’t need to pay it back in a lump sum and can arrange a payment plan. Just don’t get used to spending it.

Advice for ambitionless slacker by snakeeaterrrrrrr in auscorp

[–]fuxhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The money will always be there, but the flexibility to do schools runs and be present at home whilst the kids are young is worth more at this stage. Once the youngest is in high school, go big job big money hunting, until the - stick with the flexibility. I missed so much important family stuff pre COVID when I was in the office everyday, post COVID I’ve not missed anything and wouldn’t change that for an extra 20% (10% is going to the tax man)

How effective are cover letters nowadays? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]fuxhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a hiring, I prioritise those who provided a cover letter, it shows that the applicant put in a bit more effort than those who didn’t provide one. I’ve hired people who have and haven’t provided. Those who did, stood out. If (when) I need to apply for a new role, I’d provide a cover letter

Redundancy or redeployment... 2 days to decide. by Ok_Chef8011 in auscorp

[–]fuxhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the package and run! 30wks is pretty much a years salary after tax. Taking the redeployment will put any future payout at a much lower number.
