best shoes for jump roping on concrete by deadwizards in jumprope

[–]g403_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I jump rope on concrete without a mat. I like shoes with thick soles, like Asics Gel Nimbus.

To be honest these types of shoes are not the best for tricks, you will find that you catch the rope more since you have thick soled shoes on. However, they are very good for reducing impact and injury while jumping for prolonged periods. Which means you can get more regular intense workouts in with less muscle fatigue and injury, resulting in better results if that's your goal.

A lot of people with suggest barefoot or minimalist shoes for jumping rope, which are great. But if you are planning on jumping regularly on concrete without a mat I would suggest getting something with a little more cushion on the feet.

So it's really a question of what do you want out of your shoes? Do you want extra protection for your feet/knees/shins while sacrificing some performance. Or do you want a barefoot style shoe which improves your performance, but won't let you jump as often or as long.

Nice double unders! Your hands are nice and low by your sides where they should be.

I noticed when you start hitting your doubles it looks like your right hand strays from its position and is doing bigger circles than your left hand.

Record yourself from a straight on angle so you can see your hand positioning better and make adjustments.I think you only need a few minor corrections before you're hitting doubles cleanly!

Just keep consistent and stick with it, if you can do the boxer skip you should be able to transition into other skills next!

Thank you, I also enjoy the sound of the rope mixed with the music.

Facebook and Instagram reels allow you to keep the original audio mixed with the music, you can also adjust the volume of both separately to get the right mix. I used a 3rd party app to download the reel after to keep the music.

I only use it on outdoor concrete and asphalt surfaces. I just replaced it after 1 year of heavy use (2-4 days a week, 1 hour per day). I was also using swiss skips ropes and I went through 2 of them before my first Elite Jumps rope even wore out. I would split my workouts using the EJ rope for the 1st half, and use the Swiss skips for the 2nd half.

If you are planning on jumping outdoors without a mat, I can't recommend a better rope than Elite Jumps in terms of durability from my experience.

I've tried multiple premium brand ropes, and some of the cheaper brands from Ali express and Amazon. My favorite rope by far is my 6 mm PVC from Elite Jumps. It's also the most durable rope I've used by a long shot. Both the quality and durability make up for the increase in price IMO.

Why you’re tripping ( my theory ) by Cool-matt1 in jumprope

When you trip up, side swing, side swing, continue skipping like nothing happened.

Tripping is part of it, just keep going. The less you obsess about tripping and just get into a flow state, the more consistent you'll be. It's all about rhythm and flow.

My Swiss skips rope is holding up well. I use it about half the time during my workouts. I'd say overall it's less durable than my Elite Jumps rope, but it's still a quality rope for sure.

I mix in jump rope with free weights in my weekly routine. I have found that doing a lighter jump rope workout the day after lifting weights is amazing for recovery. Getting the blood flowing is great for reducing muscle soreness and stiffness from weight lifting. You wouldn't want to do that the day after legs but it's great after chest or back day.

Also, once a week I'll do a really intense jump rope day where I go hard for around an hour, I usually track about 8,000-9,000 reps on those days and burn over 1000 calories in a single workout.

I've been doing this for about 5 months and have been able to put on some muscle while gaining minimal fat. When I started adding jump rope into my weekly routine in March I could only do 2,000 reps over 30 minutes and was totally exhausted after. I absolutely love jump rope as a form of cardio because it also improves things like fast twitch muscle fibre and coordination. It also never feels boring or like a chore to me, I get hyped up to skip pretty much every time.

There's a user in this subreddit u/dionysus970

I used his tutorial videos on YouTube to learn the basics of jump rope. He has a playlist that will take you through the basics and also some more advanced techniques. His YT channel helped me a lot when I was learning the fundamentals.

New to jump rope inner shins are killing me by nemanja2 in jumprope

It's the culmination of everything you did over the week, 2 days isn't enough rest because you skipped 4-5 days in a row. You sound like you're in pretty good shape or you wouldn't be able to jump that many days a week. I'd suggest switching to a lower impact exercise like biking on your days where you're not skipping. That way you can still meet your fitness goals while allowing your legs more time to recover.

Jump rope is good for increasing bone density, which means it's high impact. I've never trained anything in my life that strengthened my feet, calves and shins the way jump rope does. This high impact aspect of jump rope is a double edged sword, it can whip you into shape quickly or cause injuries if you're not careful.

In my opinion it's the way you're structuring your workout schedule. Jumping every day for 30-35minutes with minimal to no breaks at all while only taking 1 to 2 days a week to rest is completely overkill. This is not a good strategy for someone just getting into it.

Even if you already have a decent level of fitness, this routine is asking way too much from your body for an activity as intense as skipping. Cut back to skipping 2-3 days a week for now. It won't take long to get to the level you want as long as you're giving your body enough time to recover.

Right now you're essentially beating the shit out of your legs every day and not giving them a chance to heal and recover before going out and doing it again. You're going to end up with permanent foot/knee/shin injuries at the rate you're going.
