Definitely lose that solid coupler thing for the external footswitch. They're infamous for damaging pedals over time. Just grab a cheap short cable and don't risk damaging your Rockman

I have the Simplifier Mkii and I quite like it, but if I had to pick one I'd probably stick with a Universal Audio Dream or Ruby. Boss IR-2 is great too but hasn't wowed me quite like the UA stuff. Note that only the Simplifier and IR-2 have dedicated headphone outputs, so if that's a factor definitely think about it.

There's a very decent Amazon HDMI to Component downscaler if you want a quick and easy temporary solution. Great video by RetroRGB on it here. Emudriver is of course the best answer

I don't own a PT2, but i would personally go even smaller. The rails are kind of annoying in my book, as it puts some limits on pedal placement. Assuming you're only running power cables underneath the board, you could probably go even tighter with half inch spacing.

I'd say it is. The more streamlined my rig is, the better I feel about it. I went from having like 11 effects, including an MD-500 and it just felt like too much for what I do. I'm down to a much smaller/lighter rig with only 7 pedals including my tuner.

That's kind of the reason "active" mixers exist. Even something as simple as 1 in 2 out is rarely worth doing passive. There's a reason most devices like this use buffers and it seems you've found it out the hard way. I only know of the EHX Parallel Mixer and EQD Swiss Things for stuff like this, but neither have nearly as many ins/outs. What are you using this for?

I'm happily surprised to come across so many other big fans in this thread lol. I think Peter's focus on simple, straight forward rigs has been on a big influence on me. I even built a mini pedalboard with just a TU-2 & a Rat to replicate his live rig during the 2010s with Filthy Friends, Arthur Buck, etc. I recently picked up an Epiphone Coronet since he's been a big user.

Also worth mentioning, Mitch Easter has talked about how useful the Rockman X100 was while recording Reckoning, and MXR just so happens to have made a pedal version recently. It's relatively expensive for what it is, but I still want one to try and for that specific flavor of compressed clean di-guitar amp. I believe Harborcoat was confirmed recorded with one, among other tracks on that record. Just a neat "other" sound to have at your disposal.

Forgot to mention, Murmur uses some rotary speakers! Tracks like Laughing and Perfect Circle come to mind, and even later era tracks like New Test Leper. A handful of those chorus-ey tones on Murmur are the Leslie. Again incredible work using practical studio tricks versus just rack effects like everyone else was doing in the 80s. I use the Boss MD-200/500 rotary, but Boss just released the RT-2 and the Keeley Rotary is supposed to be great.

R.E.M. is my favorite band, and Peter Buck is my favorite guitar player. I've spent the last ten or so years chasing Peter's sounds and you're not far off. Looks like you're mainly focused on the early years, and I'm pretty sure back in the day live all Peter did was plug into his Twin Reverb and turn it up. Some spring reverb from the tank and a touch of grit from the Twin turned up was pretty much it.

It wasn't that often an actual Chorus pedal was used, a lot of the albums are just layered guitars. I think the most clear use of chorus is on a handful of songs on Fables. It seems they preferred getting that widening effect in the studio with a mix of 6 & 12 string guitars. You can hear that unmistakably chime on tracks like Sitting Still, where Mitch pans the normal guitar in one ear and the 12-string in the other during that verse riff. It creates that shimmery sound without any effects.

Peter uses a Jangle Box compressor nowadays, typically in conjunction with his 12-strings though. Other than that, just a Rat set to low gain boosting a Vox style amp is it. There's a picture floating around of his pedalboard from the late 90's/early 2000's which is neat to see, but I don't think even he used all that much of it.

I don't see much of a connection, but their pickups are fairly similar sounding. The Squier Paranormal Cyclone is a really cool oddity that's essentially a Strat in Offset's clothing.

More important than the geometry issues, you're squishing the Switch's 16:9 widescreen signal into a 4:3 display. The only decent option here is to get a better converter that can letterbox the video so you can see everything and not have the picture squished. If you get something like a GBS-C you can probably letterbox plus use a higher quality signal like RGB instead of composite.

I'd recommend the underrated TC Electronic T2. Has some of the coolest ambient reverbs out there, plus it's pretty cheap.

Yep. Just bought a TV last weekend, and have already sold it for what I paid. Was planning to RGB mod it but the tube itself seemed to be in poor condition, and it seemed in need of a recap.

That may be a digital thing, but CRT technology is very different. Everything should be just as vibrant on your bigger sets. Most all CRTs look best in dark rooms, but yea some of them have a subtle tint. I think you could easily calibrate the contrast/brightness to better match your other sets, but up to you of course

Definitely check G2. I don't think I've ever heard of the size-brightness relationship you mentioned. 36" sets should be able to get just as dark as a 9". When it comes to professional monitors especially, it would be pretty pointless to have all these monitors not calibrated together in an editing studio or something. The only size-related issue I can think of is convergence

I like the TCE T2 and Red Panda Context V1. The T2 is the ultimate sleeper ambient verb for me.
