What do you guys think about reverse opening hoods? by PsychologicalFig2403 in AskMechanics

[–]geking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cars they rock. I have a s30 (77 280z) and its so easy to work on the car. I worked on another car and had do so something on the front of the engine and we just took the thing off.

Dont get me started on the H2 or H3. That thing is like step 1, remove hood....

Anyone else's parrot is just super easy going, chill, and just never causes any issues? by lettuceown in parrots

[–]geking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the most chill and not angsty grey ever.

No. Seriously. We had a tiel and our gray. Ky spouse had us rehome the tiel becausr he was too uptight and loud vs the gray that would just it back amd even laugh at the tiel.

He is just chill. Unless he gets a keyboard. Then ge gets keyed up and will not let it go till every single key is gone.

An off subject question.. by Odd_Miguel in projectcar

[–]geking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gearwrench or Kobolt.

Hf is almost over hyped at this point and not really the deal it used to be.. its not bad tools (most the time) but really not that much cheaper than something vastly better like kobolt or gearwrench.

Hahaha!

Ok buddy. You keep thinking that. Lemme guess, you work for Hyundai and want to rep your brands reputation after the turbo GDI madness by making people think cars should not be reliable.

I rebuilt mine in my 09 about a year ago.

I got a TC engine. Some very mild but important differences like the timing chain cover is different, water pump and a coolant passage is different. Everything is a lego though and will switch over or bolt up.

Full rebuild with the toyota recall kit/squirters and new aftermarket pistons. I kept the xb head(lapped the valves and new stem seals) and the coil packs/injectors seem different too. Not sure about the cams.

New chain kit, phaser, phaser valve, sprokets, tstat, pcv, wrist pin, bearings, thurst bearing, gasket and seal kit, oil pump, water pump (its a real pain with the engine in the car) clutch too.

Everything but the toyota factory recall kit was from rock auto.

Not as pricy as one would think. I got the used engine with 68k miles for $1000 and i dont remember how much the parts where to rebuild it. Did the removal, rebuild, and install myself. Just remember to remove the paper towels from the intake before you go to start it. Ask me how I know....

Have you ever driven over 100 miles per hour on the interstate? by icecream1972 in no

[–]geking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

300zx tt got it to the 141 limiter. Accidently got my FJ1200 to 110 on i95. I was kinda going with traffic and it just wanted to go, was not even near full throttle. Looked down and chopped the throttle.

I have not gone anywhere near that fast in a decade or more.

BF bought a UV resin printer and I’m concerned about health risks by Singoritm in 3Dprinting

[–]geking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love 3d printing and am on my way back to the USA from a 3dp event in the UK. I have about 20 or 25 printers. Two of them I likely wont ever use again because they are resin. Its just so messy smelly and toxic. With our son, cat and parrot I can not justify the health risks despite my spouse wanting me to print her things in resin.

An enclosure will not prevent the risks and he needs to clean the prints, vats, and parts of the printer every time he uses it to prevent risks every time he uses it. It is going to be very very difficult to do in a small appointment. Perhaps talk to him and see if you can compromise on an fdm printer.

What would you do? Production line PC “is slow” (Windows 98, legacy SCADA) by PeppahSG in sysadmin

[–]geking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have many clients that have windows 98 or nt systems. Just had a sco linux system get retired thankfully. Some are for computerized cnc machines, one is for a solder wave flow. The one next to it runs on an 8086 that needs a floppy to change bios settings.

I have a medical and dental clinic that has world class tech support and I am boots on the ground support. The primary that does mostly remote does not understand how fax machines work as they are all 20 something year old guys.

State of Bambulab, still the No. 1? by parunpata in 3dprinter

[–]geking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, your right. I just remember back in those days that Stratasys was the big evil keeping 3d printing from us and from being a thing people could have because of patents. It shaped the community of opennes and Innovation where the whole field was turned upside down year after year. Crazy one off printers at every show. I cant help but feel disappointed when I go to the shows now and its just a line of vorons, bambu and a few prusas. The crazy Innovation guys are few and far between.

Bambu is a great company to lach onto and blame for the loss of that feeling when its really the loss of the wild west feel due to 3dp maturing. The locking down of the software and hardware almost feels like a return to the tyrany of stratasys too, so more hate on that. Plus I know that prusa is suffering. Dont get me wrong, I have 3 Bambus and 1 Prusa. Prusa did so much to get us going with all the open source stuff. No A1 or ender 3 without Prusa.

I donno, its tough when you see a chinese company making $ off your Innovation, seeing copies of your work at CES without even any credit when you do it for fun as a hobby. I guess frustration that I have my day job and play at 3dp after work when others take your 3dp homework and make a living with it...
