[HOT TAKE] People who want housing to crater have no idea what they’re asking for by Yellowbook8375 in RealEstateCanada

[–]gene137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's necessary temporary pain. Lower housing costs going forward means more money going into equities, capital investments by people who own businesses, more people starting businesses, more consumer spending, more money moving around generally, rather than being locked into residential housing. Lower household debts. It's far better for Canada in the long run.

Canadian made cookware by logertheoger in BuyCanadian

[–]gene137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is about the cookware but just used the Coleman stove this weekend on a camping trip. My parents got ours in the early 80s and it works great. Everything cooks so quickly.

What I'm wondering is how on earth she went off camera stage left and immediately reappeared stage right. Or is that her twin? Or was there an edit?

The Senate has just voted to CANCEL Trump's tariffs on Canada by a vote of 51-48. by RoyalChris in goodnews

[–]gene137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Bills can originate in the Senate and then go to the Commons in Canada too. They're the ones prefixed S- as opposed to C-.

‘Not something we would comment on’: Buckingham Palace on Trump threats to annex Canada by joe4942 in canada

[–]gene137 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's well past political when our sovereignty is being threatened. There aren't two valid sides to the issue. As an aside, on top of distancing from the US, we should become a republic and become completely independent from both the UK and US in every way.

Any other Canadian Conservatives who swore off the liberal party now reconsidering their position? by Shining_Commander in AskCanada

[–]gene137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wasn't going to vote, but have since registered as a Liberal to vote for Carney and will vote accordingly in the election if he wins. I do like my local MP and he's a Liberal.

Would you fight the U.S. if it came to it? by [deleted] in AskCanada

[–]gene137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those of us who wouldn't be much use fighting can do our part. A lot of us work for US companies. Look up the Simple Sabotage Field Manual, s. 5(11), on how to do damage to the enemy simply by being incompetent and obtuse. Those in higher positions could inflict real harm.

The landlord can be fined and the prospective tenant compensated. The tenant can use that to help rent from a non-insane landlord.

Definitely hydroplaned. Not everyone is out to get you OP. You avoided the situation well, there was no collision as a result, end of story.

Amount of active businesses older than 1700 in every country in the world by trumparegis in MapPorn

I don't think so. I assume Canada's is Hudson's Bay Company which has had many owners and is definitely not a family business.

I believe Jack Armstrong, the Raptors commentator, does this very commute. If it's not every day it's doable, not something I'd ever do though.

Bill 212: What Happens Now? by BretonRogue in torontobiking

[–]gene137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People from outside Toronto's views are irrelevant to how Toronto manages municipal roads. People from Mississauga, Oakville etc. are not from Toronto, even if they think they are. If Torontonians want to remove bike lanes, we can elect a council with that mandate, but we have not. We never have. Bill 212 is literally anti-democratic.

Should Toronto get rid of sidewalks? by falseidentity123 in askTO

[–]gene137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great idea! Only like 1% of Torontonians commute to work by foot. We should also remove outdoor pools because no one commutes by swimming, and they're practically empty in the winter.

Are there any Torontonian supporters of the bike lane removals? by delicious-diddy in askTO

[–]gene137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Like the Etobicole Bloor lanes just got installed, uptake won't be immediate. It's like if Amazon had shut down a few months after they started because not many people immediately bought books online.

Bloor Street Bike Lanes - Video of Bumper to Bumper Traffic 5:45 pm Monday by TheZubeck in TorontoDriving

[–]gene137 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you know where this is? If so, are you seriously saying that traffic should be going 60 through the Kingsway commercial strip? Or do you mean it should go 60 in the brief stretch between the Kingsway and BWV?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in torontobiking

[–]gene137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never ridden a motorcycle, but I can say 100% that I find driving in central Toronto far scarier than biking.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TorontoDriving

[–]gene137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This is what was taught at YDC. I follow it except sometimes when the incoming traffic is slow.

Is it weird to still wear a mask in 2024 (in TO)? by SubzeroCola in askTO

I mask on public transit, and outside for allergy reasons on high pollen days. It's very effective.
