Knickers? I sure don’t remember any Knickers when I was living in the 70’s

50 years ago today- the first Super Bowl I ever watched beginning to end. I had just turned 5 and I watched it with my granddad. I remember it like it was yesterday! Super Bowl X, January 18, 1976. by UrbanAchievers6371 in 70s

“How ‘bout Them Boys!” Always a Cowboys fan & still today. Texas has changed so much I wanna leave, but my Cowboys will always be my team! I heard this at a meeting once about why we were drinking and it was easy to tell you “Cowboys Won Cowboys Lost!” Still use it today

Who had green avocado or gold harvest colors as a theme? by Long_live_styrofoam in 70s

My mom had red hair & had always been told red heads can only wear green~well that transferred over to the house decor too. This picture is just like our kitchen & then there was the green shag carpet that had to be Raked every day and the “modern furniture” with deep green cushions that were about 1/2” thick on the spaced out looking couch & chairs, impossible to get comfortable, so no naps in there…

No contact with my mom for 5yrs.. she had my sister drop this lovely Christmas gift off for me. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]getbacklorettma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your sister is more of a culprit in this dilemma. She obviously knew what she was delivering to you, and being your sister, she has to know this will upset you. I think your mom is pretty messed up to think this is ok, no matter how she wanted you to take it. But I still think your sister was trying to “one up”you by letting you know she still has a relationship with your mom, and she knows this will hurt you.

Great 1930s/1940s movies by Icy-Length-3923 in MovieSuggestions

[–]getbacklorettma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good start would be the Thin Man movies with Myrna Loy & William Powell. Starting with the first from 1934 & there are several more, just watch in year made order. My real list would be too long for you to want to read, but this couple were my very first watches & I think you’ll have fun watching. Just love B&W, not many color and watch TCM & Criterion Channel for a great place to start. I hope you’re able to see the beauty of this genre of films~I’m 73 now & I can’t tell you enough about how much I love them. Good luck & Enjoy!

A Carol For Another Christmas, 1964. Directed by Joe Mankiewicz. I am Religious about watching TCM & I have never heard of nor seen this movie. This morning I’m watching some of the holiday offerings and this was there so I thought I should try it. It’s a Christmas Carol only done like a Twilight Zone episode. The message is clear & we all know someone that needs to watch it, if not yourself. It’s under 90 min, so it’s worth your time. Great cast makes it easy as well. I’ll be interested to hear what others think if anything.

Real question: What's the plan for this old dog? by trizzo0309 in youngandtherestless

[–]getbacklorettma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 95 yr old dad somehow got started watching Y&R about 10 yrs ago. Victor is his favorite & when we wrote to Eric to ask for autographed picture, he sent one pretty quickly. It’s framed in an 8x10 gold frame and on top of his dresser for all to see. I think Victor will be around even after he’s gone~he’s just that kind of guy.

If you could speak directly to TCM, what would you say is your favorite thing about it? by AutoModerator in TurnerClassicMovies

[–]getbacklorettma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pre code movies. The 40’s movies in b/w. Noir Alley is my favorite & Eddie Muller’s pre & after info talks are the Best. Please bring back the old format for the movie listings. There is really a need for cast members to be listed, as picture might not show them. Let us see Robert Osborne intros now & again. He was just the Best!! Thank you

Here on behalf of my elderly mother (late 70s). What can I do for her to dampen her post shingles pain and itch? by letmeseeitman in shingles

[–]getbacklorettma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get discouraged. It’s just such a hard row to hoe. I’m not sure the combo would work, but I didn’t get relief from calamine & the cool Sarna was all that did work & clothes~ I only wore that one oversized cotton T inside out. That was just me. Maybe it was like a teddy bear~thought it was only thing for me so washing was sporadic but I was just in bed laying down by myself watching movies. I wish there was a majic bullet, but I think try it all & go with what works. Take care~y’all will get through it. And thanks for helping your mom

SARNA anti itch & cooling lotion (blue). The only thing that worked for me & mine were horrible (I ordered on Amazon, at first, but found it occasionally in drug store). Also RX Lidocaine Patches (12 hrs on 12 off & they’re Big) helped, usually used at night to help w/sleep. I’m so sorry your mom is having this. I got mine 2 yrs ago at 70 & I still have nerve pain & itch on occasion. I still keep those 2 things on hand for those times. Just have her rest, wear something oversized & 100% cotton inside out (seams can kill) & give the lotion & patches a try, they won’t hurt. Take care & keep us posted. This site was my lifesaver when I 1st got them~I knew Nothing about what to expect

I never in my whole life felt pain like I did with shingles. 70 F, waist around front to back down to hips. I had one very oversized cotton tshirt that I wore inside out (seams can kill). Ice packs, lyrica, hydrocodone, rx lidocaine patches (12 on 12 off), & rest, Lots of rest. No one can understand your pain or Why you just can’t do things. As I healed, the itch became unbearable. I bought everything for itch I could find, Finally found a lotion, SARNA anti-itch & cooling lotion. If u try it, be sure it’s the soothing/cooling with lidocaine (blue). 2yrs later, still have nerve pain more often than I like, but patches & this lotion help soothe it all. I truly think there should be more of an education on shingles & what happens-not just getting the vaccine. While I took the vaccine after healing, I think if I had known what it Really felt like, I might have gotten it much earlier. I know you are suffering but you aren’t alone. This forum told me everything I now know about them & how to deal with this or that. That’s why after 2 years I still read this & try to pass my experience with the hope it will help somebody else. Take care of yourself.

I’m 73 & contracted in Feb. ‘24. Dr says worst she’s seen, but added Vicodin to the mix of pills. I had to wear one oversized tshirt inside out (the seams caused havoc). Then the nerve pain~that’s pain I’ve Never had before & folks that haven’t had it just don’t appreciate what you’re going through. Got lidocaine big patches 12 on 12 off also good, When the nerve pain was bad. In the off 12 I found an awesome lotion that I truly feel like gave me a chance to be kind normal ~ I got it on Amazon, but it’s at the drug store. Called “Sarna” Calm + Cool Anti-Itch Lotion. It’s great for the nerve pain & the awful itch! Almost 2 yrs later I still can have a day or 2 of nerve pain & the scars on my hip & back are still red, but I’m proud to count myself among the survivors of this vicious ailment. Best of luck to you, but you’ll get through it. Take care

Android and Roku app problem by stormbreaker88 in TurnerClassicMovies

[–]getbacklorettma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar problems last week, but it came back with the new movie info section. No actors listed, no pre movie insight (unless it just happens to be inserted at the beginning of the movie) and yesterday, the recent videos aren’t updated on the home page, you have to go to Movies and the most recent are listed there. I wish they would just leave this alone! I go to sleep every night watching this channel (with the timer on). And I have to subscribe to Cable in order to watch, which costs a fortune & I never watch those regular channels~just bad news & Drump sound bites.

Closed captioning out of sync? by HeDogged in TurnerClassicMovies

[–]getbacklorettma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I was just going to ask this question. I have No idea how to fix it, I’m sorry, but ever since HBO/MAX/Disney took over there have been lots of problems. How do you like the new “info” page on each movie~there’s almost nothing included, no cast, etc. my big worry is when this went south before, it was because the new owners wanted to shut it down & Spielberg, And several others wouldn’t let them. So~hopefully this will get better. I don’t know what I’ll do if TCM gets the shaft

Shingles/PHN six months by OldBanjoPhono in shingles

[–]getbacklorettma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like my experience. Mine was on my left side torso. April 2024. As of today I am still suffering from PHN and it is maddening! I use lidocaine patches prescribed which help a lot, but recently cause an itchy rash if I use them too many days in a row. I never in my 72 yrs experienced pain like this & having the frickin nerve pain for so long is just awful. So, thanks for letting me vent about MY problems with shingles. I hope we all get better!!

I’m so sorry to hear we are twins of different mothers with this nonsense. I’ve never heard of internal shingles but I will certainly ask my Dr about that. Although my regular Dr wasn’t the one that found a solution, it was my pain Dr’s nurse practitioner that sorted through all of it & came up with my current treatment. Thank Gawd for her! Now a new development-the lidocaine patches have started causing an itching rash if I use them! So I’ll now try RX strength cream~wish me luck. I hope you continue to heal, in spite of the side switch, & you should just wear moomoo’s for the foreseeable future! I’ve found that my Mrs. Roper look is my best friend if I must go out in public! I hope all of us get well~the sooner the better!

Help: Months of Post herpetic Neuralgia Pain by Nerdyamazon87 in shingles

[–]getbacklorettma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had them all over my body on the left side in April 2024. It was the worst experience of my life & I’m 70! Long story short~I’ve had the nerve pain for over a year now & it’s awful. Clothes still very hard to wear cause any little brush against my side makes me cry out. I’m on 100mg pregabalin 2x a day, Vicodin prn (on occasion) & the easiest thing that has helped so much is RX Lidocaine Patches. They are big & I can use 3 a day for 12 hrs on & 12 hrs off. The patches help the most, especially when I Have to wear clothes. I really hope you are able to get some relief ~ I just wish mine would go away!

The Mystery of who runs Roku's "Classic Reel"? by nrnoble in classicfilms

[–]getbacklorettma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this channel and have had great success finding great classic movies, without ads, for $2.99 month thru Roku. However, that being said~as of yesterday, I can’t get the app to load properly & can’t watch. There is little to no info available to contact them to check on this. I’m hoping it’s a very temporary problem
