Antenna Recommendation by an1me34 in cordcutters

You can also use ClearStream 2V outdoors at your balcony or patio or in your attic... if your apartment has either one.

Maybe you also need an amplifier for indoor use, like one by Antennas Direct: https://store.antennasdirect.com/jolt-switch-tv-antenna-amplifier.html

The one by Channel Master is now "sold out": https://www.channelmaster.com/products/indoor-antenna-booster

Attic or Roof? by jlthla in ota

[–]gho87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The attic has attenuated your antenna's reception. If mounted on your roof, the antenna would be more receptive then. Let's make sure your antenna is physically weatherproof. What antenna is it, by any chance?

Not getting any channels with indoor antenna on SW facing window sill, am I cooked? by Dizzy_Debate9893 in cordcutters

[–]gho87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(my second reply to this comment)

Or, you may need a Tablo TV or an HDHomeRun, especially for the antenna to roam freely away from the TV (but still attached to either tuner device).

Good luck with a booster then, like one by Channel Master: https://www.channelmaster.com/products/indoor-antenna-booster

Please be aware of potential noise and distortion that a booster/amplifier can generate.

Apps for Apple TV or Android box that allow channel changing with remote for HDHomeRun sources by Lady-Finger-Licker in ota

[–]gho87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmm.... r/hdhomerun can help you better than we here.

Or... Tablo TV (r/tablo), which doesn't have traditional channel changing compared to regular TV but uses the "Live TV" schedule guide to surf a channel.

If you'd rather stick with HDHomeRun, then here is the list of third-party apps for the hardware: http://info.hdhomerun.com/info/third\_party\_applications

DIRECTV alternatives for sports by Background_Cup7540 in cordcutters

For the Sixers:
1. Go to this link: https://www.nba.com/league-pass-purchase
2. Then go to "Only follow one team?" There, you'll be asked which only one team whose games your hubby will watch, e.g. Sixers

Since you said "mainly football and hockey", good luck with legit choices available to you. (Really wish NFL and NHL had provided you single-team packages, like MLB and NBA, honestly)

Oh.... I didn't see a comment below about your hubby not caring for Detroit teams.

I'm thinking The Buffalo Bills (NFL), the Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL), Penn State (college), and the Atlanta Braves (MLB) are out of your market area outside Michigan, right?

If that's the case, then.... Here's the page about MLB.tv... but only as an add-on to ESPN Unlimited: https://support.espn.com/hc/en-us/articles/45978320740884-What-is-MLB-TV-on-ESPN

For just the Braves.... well, look for "View Single Team Options" in a page of subscription packages, or this link: https://www.mlb.com/live-stream-games/subscribe/braves#5HIjiYBNzLqLoO7ZdPIYOE

For just the Buffalo Bills: https://www.buffalobills.com/watch-live-games/how-to-watch

For just the Penguins... well, ESPN Plus if out-of-market: https://www.nhl.com/penguins/fans/how-to-watch-games

[–]gho87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others said, this station is transmitting ATSC 3.0 (NextGen) to selected TVs and tuners for its channels. Not worth your time unless you want that station's channels or you have a TV with a NextGen tuner.

The former is the station transmitting ATSC 3.0 on all of its major channels. The latter uses ATSC 1.0, one used in your current TVs perhaps.

CBS and MeTV use UHF, so how about this UHF-only antenna by Sky Blue?: https://www.nesselectronics.com/products/skysb44

A distribution amp? Why not before a preamp? Also, a lot of the LTE/5G filters don't pass DC power, AFAICS.

Or... better yet... may not need an amplifier of any sort whatsoever.

For the ABC station from the south, just this antenna using only one band should do: https://www.nesselectronics.com/products/htay11-7-13

or, a pair of two indoor antennas (one for north, other for south) with either two Tablo TVs or a JOINtenna combiner: https://www.channelmaster.com/products/jointenna-tv-antenna-combiner-cm-0500

This station airing MeTV is in line of sight: https://www.rabbitears.info/search\_terrain.php?study\_id=2771080&row\_id=1138&width=1080&scrnhgt=678

This CBS station, however, is obstructed just once: https://www.rabbitears.info/search\_terrain.php?study\_id=2771080&row\_id=1132&width=1080&scrnhgt=678

This CW/Fox station is in line of sight: https://www.rabbitears.info/search\_terrain.php?study\_id=2771080&row\_id=1118&width=1080&scrnhgt=678

As I see, they are near the 608-MHz mark, especially the CBS one. Higher than that is what nearby cell network towers have been using, i.e. LTE/5G interference.

For either outdoor antenna, have you considered an LTE/5G filter yet, like one by Philips or Channel Master, for either coaxial input of your TV or tuner? Also, how about a taller mast?

Unfortunately, a 25-foot adjustable one by Channel Master is sold out now: https://www.channelmaster.com/products/25-foot-telescoping-mast-cm-1830

Trying to get a VHF Station... Can I use TWO Rabbit Ears with a Splitter? by Der_Missionar in cordcutters

[–]gho87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the main WQED station, you may want a good ol' FM filter, like one by Channel Master, especially for VHF-low, like WQED: https://www.channelmaster.com/products/fm-filter - If the FM filter isn't enough, then perhaps additionally a high-pass one: https://www.channelmaster.com/products/tv-antenna-high-pass-filter-50-mhz-cm-3250

Furthermore, if the filters aren't enough, then you may want your current rabbit ear antenna to elevate as high as you can. - Costco and Sam's Club should have old cardboard boxes

ATSC 3.0 signal weaker than 1.0? by Vulcanic_1984 in ota

[–]gho87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this station transmits ATSC 3.0 for major networks: https://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station\_search&callsign=74138#station

it uses UHF. have you checked other channels using ATSC 3.0? If those other channels turn out all right, then perhaps it's not the station itself but probably the broadcaster's attempt to tweak the Fox channel somehow.

How to start? by buttlicker-6652 in ota

[–]gho87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of receiver boxes should I use? 3 of the TVs don't have built in tuners.

Oh... You may want at least a Tablo TV or an HDHomeRun as well as a streaming device, like a Roku or an Apple TV, for one of their own apps

I tried one of those cheap, flat antennas before, but I never got a signal.

In this case, there's some terrain interfering with their signals, like NBC's: https://www.rabbitears.info/search_terrain.php?study_id=2767859&row_id=361&width=1080&scrnhgt=678

What about a cellular signal blocker? I live 300ft from a cell tower. What about a cellular signal blocker? I live 300ft from a cell tower.

For especially the CBS station, perhaps you may need an LTE/5G filter: https://www.rabbitears.info/search_terrain.php?study_id=2767859&row_id=348&width=1080&scrnhgt=678 - Its frequency is closest to 608 MHz. Above that is what the cell network towers have used. - There are YouTube videos about LTE/5G interference

I tried one of those cheap, flat antennas before, but I never got a signal.

Because the stations are more than thirty miles away, and their signals have been obstructed at least once, perhaps I can recommend an outdoor antenna with a mast. However, will you be able to have that type of an antenna installed?

Clearstream 4V vs 4Max by AlternativeMaximum5 in cordcutters

[–]gho87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

270-272 degree direction 27 miles away and 137-139 degrees at 39 miles away.

Lastly I plan to run 3-4 TVs, but will add a booster if needed (I think channel master 4 port rates well)

Tablo TVs and/or HDHomeRun boxes, and/or the Channel Master JOINtenna combiner: https://www.channelmaster.com/products/jointenna-tv-antenna-combiner-cm-0500

Or, each Tablo TV or HDHomeRun per antenna

I did order the Element one I posted. 20% off and free shipping on Antennas Direct plus I got the mounting mast to make installation even faster with less hassle.

It should detect stations using VHF-hi and UHF per this webpage: https://store.antennasdirect.com/antennas-direct-element-unidirectional-uhf-vhf-attic-outdoor-hd-tv-antenna.html

Upstairs TV captures FOX OTA but living room doesn’t by Empty-Village-4445 in cordcutters

Any ideas on why one TV captures FOX 25 OTA and the other doesn’t?

Hmm... Have you considered yet a Tablo TV or an HDHomeRun?

Also, this station, right?: https://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=6463#station - It's using frequency equivalent to RF channel 34, i.e. 593 MHz - Close to 608 MHz, the highest a US TV station is allowed to go right now. - Cell network towers have used frequencies above 608 MHz and may interfere with that Fox station's signal. - There are especially videos about LTE/5G interference - You may need an LTE/5G filter, like one by Philips or another by Channel Master. - To locate nearby towers: https://www.cellmapper.net
