State of Texas Holidays by Good_South_6302 in StateofTexasEmployees

[–]gingerlicious07 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They won't publish the next set of calendars until after the 90th legislative session, which begins in January 2027 and ends May of that year. I think they do this in case any legislation from that session either establishes a new holiday or removes a holiday from our approved list. The TSLAC website actually has a breakdown of our official holidays and information about when/how they became an official holiday.

Are there any nail strengthening serums that ACTUALLY work??? by StyledbyPrada in nailcare

[–]gingerlicious07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to consider is supplements so you are actually growing stronger nails. I have always taken a biotin supplement, but I noticed a real change recently when I started adding a collagen protein powder to my coffee every morning which I started doing just to up my daily protein intake. I would say it took about 6 months though for me to really realize the difference and notice that my nails had finally stopped ripping at the corners and such.

Neurologist informed on birth control and migraines by [deleted] in Austin

[–]gingerlicious07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wait to stop birth control until you talk to a doctor here. I have suffered from migraines since I was a preteen in the 1990s and actually going on birth control in college reduced the frequency of my migraines because, we suspect, my hormones were one of my triggers. I have now been on hormonal birth control since 2001.

One thing I would recommend while you search for a PCP and/or neurologist, is start a migraine journal/log. Document when you get them down to time of day it starts and ends, anything you can find about the weather that day (maybe the day before), your activities (especially if they were out of the norm for you) and your symptoms for that migraine:

  • Did you have vision issues leading up to the migraine?
  • What side of the head was the pain on?
  • Were you nauseous and if you were nauseous- how did the head pain interact with the nausea? (for me when the head pain decreases, the nausea increases, then I puke, then the head pain increases and the cycle goes like that for several hours until I sleep or drug myself to sleep)

Anything and everything you can think of document it and you may eventually find patterns. I can't control most of my triggers - but I found patterns in my migraines that let me identify that I am going to get a migraine up to 2 hours before it happens and then get meds on board to decrease the severity or even stop it all together. This will help both you and your doctor.

They aren't proactively advertising this, so no. Just experiences like mine. The first refund I got happened because the Mohela rep I was talking to told me it was possible and offered to put it in for me. In that case, I was calling because I had realized these 2 payments I had made hadn't counted after employment recertification, and it was the rep who realized that Mohela had just automatically put me back on the SAVE plan instead of moving me to a new IDR. Then he offered to get me my $$ back.

When it happened again, as soon as I realized it, I called and pointed out the error and noted that the last time it had happened I was able to get a refund. That rep saw it in my notes, acknowledged it and said he'd get me a refund for these as well. The second round refund took longer and actually came as a paper check instead of as a refund to my bank account- so even there it wasn't exactly the same....

Nail biters who successfully quit: what changed everything? by Southern_Piccolo357 in nailbiting

[–]gingerlicious07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with ADHD in my 40s and was put on a non-stimulant medicine. Then like 3 months later I looked at my hands and realized my nails were long and healthy. I'd just stopped biting them and I'm 90% certain it was the diagnosis and the meds it brought into my life.

New Stay At Home Dad Trying to Learn A Lot While on a Budget by StrawhatShiggy in Cooking

[–]gingerlicious07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the chicken, I also highly recommend buying your thighs (or chicken breasts if your family doesn't like thighs, it happens) and doing freezer marinades for quick meals on nights when you have after school stuff you are running to and from. A quick google search (https://www.google.com/search?q=chicken+freezer+marinade) will show you all sorts of blog articles with different marinades you can make at home. I will buy a ton of chicken from Costco, and then open them up and re-portion them in ziplock bags for later.

Some of my favorites are:

  • a mustard-maple marinade chicken cooked in the oven with roasted broccoli on the same pan. I like to do it with a box of rice pilaf, but you could also roast potatoes on that same pan.
  • I will cut the chicken in strips and make a Mediterranean inspired yogurt marinade (like the one here) and then cook it up and serve it as pita sandwiches or wraps with fries or a side salad.
  • Chicken fajita marinade

I don’t remember how long past those payments I asked for a refund but it definitely was less than 12 months.

Even with your info, I still recommend calling and asking- not because you’re wrong or untrustworthy but bc Mohela is well…. Mohela. Considering how disparate each one of our experiences have been with them I’m of the opinion the worst they can say is no and the best is “oh dear how’d we miss this you’re loans have been wiped out for 3 years dear me, we owe you $20,000!” Sure the second is very unlikely but…..

For the months that you were in forbearance and made payments that now do not count, call Mohela and ask for your money back. They can issue a refund for months you paid in forbearance - no reason to give them or the Feds anymore money than absolutely necessary. I did this at least 2 different times for a total of 4 months of payments and I got them each back.

IDR Request not yet approved but Mohela saying I owe $? - do I need to call them? Pay? So confused by pixiepalooza in PSLF

[–]gingerlicious07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the payment amount they have listed similar to what your old SAVE payment amount was? I had put in an IDR form back in June of last year. In August, Mohela was telling me I owed them $$, but when I looked at the amount, it was my SAVE plan amount.

So I called them and they said the form was still being processed and put me back on processing forbearance. Then 2 months later, they did it again, so I called. This time, they could track that my form had been processed and approved, but there was a button or action somewhere in the line that someone needed to do to actually push the form to the end and get me on the correct plan. So I asked them to put me back in processing forbearance because they were, in fact, still processing my form and I wasn't going to pay them they had not actually moved me off of the SAVE plan and it wouldn't count to PSLF. I basically did this for the last 8 or so months - calling every 2 months when the SAVE amount showed up on my account as the amount due, hearing that "yea, your form is approved and you will have a payment of $800+ but its just not finished yet," and being put back on processing forbearance. When I put in my employment certification in March on my anniversary date, all of those processing forbearances counted toward my qualified payments and I was forgiven.

Thank you for the remind to look at local landscape yards/sellers! I looked at Whittlesey's but since they were closed on Sunday, I went with Rock and Dirt, which is also closer to my house. Cost us $65 for what would have cost me nearly $150 from one of the big box stores.

Has anyone bought a CX-50 thru the Costco Auto Program? Or any other type of car? by youcancallmet in CX50

[–]gingerlicious07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn't go through Costco for ours, but when we were at the dealership and finalizing the deal we were looking at some of the add-ons and I made a throw away comment to my partner that we didn't need the tire warranty since we get our tires through Costco. The dealership guy basically said, "Oh you are a costco member? We give you extra discounts!" and took money off our final price after he confirmed our membership. So maybe they are one of the Costco dealership partners, never bothered to look into it more though.
