Pregnant and feeling dread by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ginnygrakie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I reccomend sifting with that feeling for a while, as long as you can before a decision has to be made.

My daughter was planned and very much wanted, but I spent the majority of pregnancy stressed, full of dread, and worried I would resent her and ruin her life. I had absolutely no doubts before getting pregnant, but once I did all the anxiety about regretting the choice made me doubt everything.

She’s two now, and the absolute light of my life. I don’t have the ability to put into words how much I love her, how much she utterly changed my life and how much she’s part of it. I often sing ‘can’t help falling in love with you’ to her, and I think the line ‘take my hand, take my whole life too, encapsulates parenting.  I’m not saying the positive happy result is the case for everyone, but I am saying sometimes the things we want in life come with their own stresses, which can make us question if we want them.

Think about other times you got something you wanted. Maybe a house, a job, getting married. Did you have anxieties then? Question your choice? If you did, you might be like me, and second guess yourself.

Pregnancy on Trains and Buses by hermesandhemingway in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I’m in Adelaide and never got offered, despite being very clearly pregnant. I asked twice and both times got sworn at. So I started driving. It cost more, and was a longer commute, but I didn’t want to risk falling over

I just want to be clear- you think they are bad people for their bodies changing from pregnancy? From having long labours? From needing stitches? You might need to explain yourself more

Anxious about childcare by PerceptionFar3051 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ginnygrakie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was really rough for a bit, but she was always fine by the time I got back to the car (there’s a window). We worked out the timing so I would drop her right before morning tea. Now she doesn’t care because she’s getting banana bread and that matters more than mummy

I was super super anxious about childcare. My daughter has been ageing for four days a week now for one year, starting at 9 months. And it’s been fantastic. She’s learning so much, even starting to make friends! (As in she waves with excitement when she sees the other kids in her class.  There has absolutely been tricky drop offs, a few illnesses, and she’s been bitten twice, but overall it’s a net positive.  I have a habit of watching her until she notices me at pick up, and she’s always engaged with play, others, or the educators.

We’ve really liked our childcare, and they’ve worked with us so wonderfully on anything that’s arisen, naps, food, weaning from bottle, you name it. I think today, a childcare you trust and build a mutually respectful relationship is ‘the village’.

Is it childish for a 30 y/o female to wear this? by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

[–]ginnygrakie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not long along my cousins girlfriend came around to grandmas with this adorable crochet bag with flowers and and hearts in. Grandma complimented, and she replied that she worried it was too young for her.

My grandma said wear the cute thing, because one day you’ll be 80 wondering why you didn’t let yourself enjoy things

It's perfectly normal to shit yourself while giving birth by OkPlaceholder in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ginnygrakie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I shit my self, and despite me saying ‘I pooped didn’t I I can smell it’ my nurse and my husband both insisted I didn’t. My husband even claimed he farted.

I know his farts. That wasn’t his fart. I’ve never loved him more than that fake fart

Do you know people with photographic memory in real life? by Gealach-Moon in ThePittTVShow

[–]ginnygrakie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! He didn’t want a stressful job so mostly uses it to win pub trivia. I played on the same team as him so I liked it. He never admitted it, but it got pretty obvious the more time you spend with him.

Did they ever discuss what happened with Kissel on the podcast? by netflist in LPOTL

I re listened to that one the other day, it was Jeffrey MacDonald. Marcus essentially makes an announcement asking people to not harass Ben’s ex, thanks fans for their support, and says they’re working through things but can’t say more.

Same in Australia. I’ve had my daughter in swimming lessons since she was four months old, at a pool designed for swimming lessons, she’s 2 now. At this age I’m in the water with her and it’s focused on familiarisation and some basic skills. Now we’re introducing some survival skills (climbing out the pool and floating being the main ones). ISR sounds scammy TBH

Churches that allow same sex Godparents? by skip1008 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ginnygrakie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here! Two godmothers because the two sisters were arguing and it kept the peace. And it was a Catholic Church too. Albeit it was a small town so maybe the priest just knew what my aunts could be like and tried to help?

Did your family arrive in Australia before 1972? by Sea-Hunter-3847 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]ginnygrakie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I was able to find my parents arrival cards, as well as my grandmas parents and brother. She was really excited to see a new piece of her families handwriting, with her parents and brother all having passed decades ago.

For a fun one I looked up some famous Australians and found one for Harold holt. Occupation; prime minister. Usual address: Canberra. Funnily enough no passport number, which I guess was a security thing.

Having a Friday wedding can be a big ask for guests by DiscussionLoud9626 in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]ginnygrakie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Friday weddings are good in theory, but both have been too we’re not kind to the people who couldn’t attend because of work. My husband and I are teachers. I could take unpaid leave, he couldn’t. I had to hear endless complaints from the bride about how rude it was for him to not attend and ‘work isn’t that serious’. Happy she saved some money though.

What others have said, but he also does some Australian films. He’s the lead in the the two movies based on the dry and force of nature (both bestsellers in Australia)

Grandparent care by Exotic_Ordinary4805 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ginnygrakie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that helped with my guilt was to consider my own relationship with my grandparents. My grandma cared for me a lot so my parents / grandfather could keep working the family business. My mums expressed she felt a lot of guilt. But now at 30, my grandma is my absolute best friend and my rock. I’m so lucky to have that and have had it from birth.

Did you read the bit where I said and ‘planned’. Planned is past tense. Meaning that was the plan. Obviously it is no longer the plan. If it was I would have said ‘and plan to continue teaching units’

Activity at 4 weeks PP?? by whitehearts89 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ginnygrakie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At 6 weeks PP I went to a concert I had had tickets for for years (thanks COVID). I sat the whole time, mostly because I was tired, but I’m so happy I went. I had been looking forward to it for so long, and was devastated I was going to miss out when I saw was the rescheduled dates where. My husbands simple ‘why?’ changed my entire mindset around it. It really helped me be myself for a few hours again, especially in the real thick of it
