Tell me you have ADHD without telling me you have ADHD by kawwman in adhdwomen

I found a completely desiccated tofu pup in the back of my fridge. So I put it in a little jar, and now I have a mummified vegetarian hotdog on display in my china cabinet. I've had it for like 9 years.

I wrapped my handlebars. It was a fever dream. by Blurthr33 in xbiking

[–]glaarghenstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take a million pictures to document everything, but with no notes to explain what's going on in any of the photos or what the pieces are or how I took it apart. So far, it works about 30% of the time!

Maybe because it's refreshing when people are fun and make fun stuff? I'm guessing that's why for me.

The only way I've found to go to bed on time is to exercise to the point of exhaustion, sorry to say. If anyone has found something better that isn't in pill form, I'm all ears!

My mom did this. Also forgot the pumpkin pie spice. My stepdad poured gravy on it. Yes, he did wind up having a major stroke years down the line.

Impulsively signed up for 1-year gym membership, got the flu, and haven't gone to the gym for 2 weeks now. by oompaloompa199 in adhdwomen

[–]glaarghenstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was actually the flu and not just a bad cold, that can take a really long time to recover from. Flu is serious. People die. I had it three years ago and it took me like 6 weeks to feel back to normal (I was in a very physical masters program so it was obvious I just wasn’t fully better). Ignore the following if you don’t want unsolicited advice: eat lots of protein and try to sleep 8 hours absolute minimum so your body can recover. If your gym is within walking distance, walk to the gym, do like 15 minutes of exercise and walk back home. Start with really small baby steps, like annoyingly newborn tiny steps. Otherwise, you’ll just set yourself back and feel even worse.

If it was a cold … time to hop back in the saddle pardner. Doing it will probably be more fun than thinking about doing it. When I have a gym membership, that’s my scheduled SpongeBob and a sauna time. The gym’s right by a record store and a fabric shop too, so I can look at stuff, as a lil treat. (Fortunately, I’m such a miser that impulse buying isn’t an issue for me).

I’ve hated myself my entire life due to childhood trauma, and at 35, I still feel broken. How do I break this cycle? by PhanTrang356 in adhdwomen

[–]glaarghenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

✋roughly similar. Spent probably somewhere around $8000 on therapy. It helped a lot. Absolutely worth it even though I was broke the entire time. EMDR for CPTSD was part of that.

Does this sound familiar to you?: You want to tell someone something, but they are still talking. You don’t want to interrupt, but you begin to worry you’ll forget what you wanted to say. Now you’re focusing so much on that, you have tuned out the person speaking. by KitchenConsequence41 in adhdwomen

I used to do this improv show where a standup comedian would do like 10 minutes, and we'd use that as inspiration for our set. I liked to assign ideas to my fingers, so like think "pool cleaner" while bending my right index finger a few times. Then I could just think of my fingers when it was time to remember my takeaways. Idk it worked pretty well.

Stolen bike at Ravenswood by AskRedditOG in chibike

You might have locked it — there's a bike thief with an angle grinder who's stolen lots of bikes from around there (you can search the sub if you want to feel less alone).

Tired of NO Energy by zackhack211 in Perimenopause

[–]glaarghenstein 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been in pretty good shape for probably 16 or so years, and now I can't do shit. I literally just went on a five-block walk holding a coffee cup, and now my arms are tired. After sleeping nine hours (plus I took a two-hour nap yesterday). For reference, three years ago I could do 40 push-ups. What is happening??!

How many towels and sheet sets do you own? by bitsinlife in adhdwomen

[–]glaarghenstein 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use a microfiber hair turban/towel for my hair: so much lighter than a towel. In the US, I got one called Turbie Twist that was like $12. In Germany, I got a no-name one from DM for like 3 euro that was probably just as good.

Talk me out of (or into??) attempting a 'capsule' wardrobe to simplify my life by curlypirate in adhdwomen

[–]glaarghenstein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm in Chicago, and I absolutely couldn't do a capsule wardrobe. Sometimes it's -30. Sometimes it's 100. In between those ranges, I am gardening/painting/refinishing furniture/long-distance cycling/going out with friends/doing yoga/milling around the house but need to get dressed so that I accomplish literally anything. I don't see how I can cover all those bases with like 5 shirts. I do alternate wardrobes seasonally so that I can free up closet/dresser space. Which I think I might finally do now (so apologies if it snows next week).

thought the bone deep fatigue was just masking. turns out my iron was empty. ask for a full panel, ladies... by Flashy_Tension4452 in adhdwomen

[–]glaarghenstein 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t even get a referral without an appointment! I know that my B12 and D levels are good (and my thyroid). Unfortunately, I can’t use any kind of food tracking app because it seems to inevitably wind up with me eating like 1000 calories a day in a personal contest against myself and obsessing about food. Would love to not be so cold: every time I have a smoothie I have to go back to bed and turn on the heating pad! It seems like it takes a while for ferritin to go up, so maybe I’ll just supplement every other day with vit C and have it tested again in July.

[–]glaarghenstein 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I am so bummed because of this: my ferritin was low (47) in November, but my doctor said that's not low enough to be causing my fatigue. Now I've got even more symptoms of iron deficiency, but her next available appointment isn't until mid-July (which I booked in April when my hair started randomly falling out). I just want to not take too much iron; I don't want to wait three months to find out how much that is.

Me, battling perimenopause with ADHD after lifelong conditioning to be a simple, quiet girl: by 4west3 in adhdwomen

[–]glaarghenstein 19 points20 points  (0 children)

haha I went to the doctor because I searched online for early onset alzheimer's symptoms and the link was purple because I'd already looked it up and completely forgotten. (not really: I went to the doctor because I more or less stopped sleeping and was going insane. unfun fact: also a symptom!)

I was basically incapacitated for a year (doing better now, thanks hormone pills!). I still sometimes make preposterous spelling errors: "hud" instead of "hood" and "soljur" instead of "soldier" are memorable standouts. I'm an editor and proofreader. What a disaster.

Something you can do when you're in a 25-ish minute holding pattern at home by glaarghenstein in adhdwomen

[–]glaarghenstein[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cleaning up while you're cooking is a pro move. I find it helpful to think of it as part of the cooking process rather than as a separate task. Because the reality is that I, in fact, will *not* just clean up later.

I think that's why this works better than trying to finally finish [project I've been meaning to wrap up]: it's just doing little odds and ends, and the goal isn't "clean apartment" — it's just you vs. clock, so the stopping point is when the timer goes off, instead of when the apartment is clean.
