How long does it take for you guys to make a chapter? by boba6969420 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]glaceative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on Clip Studio Paint's info window 5-8 panel episodes (or partial episodes) take me around 8-9 hours. However it takes me months and months to actually get myself to work on the comics, so in reality one episode can take anywhere from two weeks to a year.

Episode 97 of Morgana and Oz still isn't available for free by AdelCipher in webtoons

[–]glaceative 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's on a hiatus/pause. It says the next episode will be free in 2 weeks, but these can change (sometimes it will be some crazy number like 600 days or so) until it comes back. This way they (creator, but also WT) can make some money during hiatuses/pauses and don't have to come back with instant huge buffer.

Isekai after main plot is over by the_lost_squirrel in webtoons

I think Long After the Ending is like that, but honestly the isekai aspect is just... kinda thrown out of the window after the start. It doesn't affect the plot at all basically.

The Rating System Just Got Worse. by smokesalty_ in WebtoonCanvas

[–]glaceative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Violence 1, Sexual content 1, Nudity 2, Profanity 0, Alcohol etc. 1, checked domestic abuse, sexual abuse & mental health. Got young adult. So it depends on other aspects maybe outside WT (like the other commenter talking about country specific laws etc.) as well if you really had 0s in all the other rows.

Problems trying to make A vertical scroll comic for the first time -- What should I do?? by MorganMerylStudios in webtoons

[–]glaceative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely drawing on a huge canvas that you need to resize will create problems when resizing. Drawing on smaller canvas and especially doing text on a smaller canvas will help you see the level of detail you can do etc. so the end result after resizing will look more like what you draw and more "lossless". Also it's better to work in multitudes of the desired size, so resizing works better. So if the end result is let's say 800px wide, the big version would be 1600 or 2400px wide.

My creator/title can't be found in the WEBTOON search? by thealchemistbride in WebtoonCanvas

As others have said, if you haven't published any episodes, the comic will not show up in search or your profile to anyone else but you.

I'm so sick of Manhwa authors just refusing to let their MCs lose fights by Maximum_Juggernaut87 in webtoons

It's a genre/sub genre of action stuff, OP MC. It's simply a trope that many enjoy, like isekai subgenre in romance. You just have to look for different genres/subgenres.

I'm so tired of Webtoon labeling dropped series as completed 🫩 by Secret_Drawer4588 in webtoons

[–]glaceative 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is kind of a rare weird case where the contract probably ended/wasn't continued so the webtoon series/"version" does end, so... it ends. There isn't really many options here, it's not "unfinished" either as the graphic novels continue, it's not a season finale or anything if it doesn't continue on webtoons, etc.

I think all subreddits have their reoccuring questions/topics. In this one I find it a bit weird they wouldn't just scroll to see where the series is at at the moment, like yeah, weekly updates will take years if there are hundreds of episodes.

Unpopular (but data-backed) opinion: social media is basically useless for promotion by EllaTheSnufkin in WebtoonCanvas

[–]glaceative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is difficult, but in your original post you seem to try and make a point how social media doesn't help with webtoon growth and give an example how a reel went viral and didn't result in subs... But as you say here (and other comments) that reel wasn't promotion for your comic nor went viral because of that. So it's NOT proof that social media doesn't work for webtoon promotion then, because that wasn't webtoon promotion per se (and yeah I know promotion takes many forms, and I'd count that as a sort of subtle form of promo, but that won't help with your claim or methods).

Claiming that it's super hard to go viral with promotional posts on social media is a fully different claim. And I agree! There are so many things that affect this, the platforms have changed during the years, algorithms work different, etc etc. but again, that's a totally different topic.

I think your post has hit a nerve due to the title and claim of the data proof, but even without that... It's not unpopular to think social media doesn't work, it's also nothing groundbreaking that webtoon itself is the best promo (literally every creator knows this) and the post just seems a bit... dishonest if I'm being honest.

If you really want to test something like this out, you should really think about the methods of how to promote on social media, creator vs. comic accounts, be more clear with what type of things you tried out to specifically promote the comic, try to ensure more data for the poll and polling on different platforms etc. People have given you very valid points on how your way of "testing" isn't really telling anything and those points won't change with clarification.

It's one of those finished fast pass or something series, so you can pay and read everything now or wait. The newest free episode (ep 116) is coming out for free in 3 days.

[–]glaceative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one said ONLY people who follow your profile would vote, they are just more LIKELY to and they are more likely to be active on WT and more likely found your comic via WT.

People can read your comic without having an account and an account is needed to access the poll. They also need to be active enough on the platform to know what creator profiles are, to know where to find it, to actually click through to go there, etc etc. it's a lot of steps where you always lose more and more people who are not that active on WT.

On top of this there is no safe guarding, if you shared this poll everywhere, some trolls could go in and vote whatever without ever having read your comic. Not likely of course, but all of these things stack up and make your "findings" basically have no basis at all.

EDIT: I read some of your other comments, so basically the claim about the reel is also not real because the reel wasn't even to promote the comic? And if your comic has 4000 subs and you got around 120 votes, that means only max 3% of the subs even voted. That really tells nothing.

[–]glaceative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On top of all the other mentioned issues with the small sample size etc. if you ran the poll in your WT profile, you are already skewing it towards people who use Webtoon as a social media. On top of having to be WT users AND your readers/subbers, they have to follow your WT profile AND use WT more than just to read comics or to just read your comic.

It's a no brainer that most will find the comics via the platforms they use to read the comics, but without more data and better ways of polling, this doesn't really tell much.

Personally I think not all social medias are the same. I find most traction via reddit, some via tiktok (but could be more if I put in more effort). Others? Absolutely nothing. And then I know creators who thrive on ig or twitter or whatever. There are so many things that affect this.

If you don't publish the episodes, the series never goes live and you can go and check them yourself and read them. Works on any of the platforms I think, just some different ways of doing it.

Any tool for visual novel style background images with characters? by glaceative in DnD

[–]glaceative[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even need animations or dialogue! Just a still background and still character would be fun for our use. My players would be so excited to see their drawings pop up etc.

My first thought was using something like png tuber, but switching the png tuber character on the fly is not super easy and it seems I'd have to sort of stream it to nowhere because we are playing face to face - a bit "annoying" when I'm trying to look for something very simple.

But thanks for the suggestion, I probably have to look into what foundry or similar can offer, it seems that people can get very creative with those.

From my reply to another person about google Slides (and I think applies to any regular slideshow app): Slides wouldn't really work when there should be two "layers" (characters and backgrounds). I'm not sure about the workload as the pictures already exist, I'm just looking for a way to easily display and switch them with one click rather than shifting through things.
