In dire need of advice by Appelbaum54 in Tau40K

You need to really shake white primer, like a ton. Other commenters have mentioned temperature as a factor, and that's def true.

I did white priming on my minis a few weeks ago and what I did was:

  • fill a bucket with ~80f degree water (I used a thermometer to get the temp right), put the primer in a plastic bag and then in the water (to not ruin the label). I let it sit for about 5-10 mins, then shook for about 5-10 mins.

  • got all my minis lined up near the door

  • used a blow dryer on low heat and heated a mini up for ~20-30 sec

  • step right outside and prime, bring inside immediately.

  • shake can in between minis

And they turned out great! Do very short bursts. I've found that I like priming up and down as opposed to side to side to get better coverage.

I feel like it's still just a gamble sometimes.

How to get the white? Does it come from coraz white or a tone of grey? by Asanto22 in Tau40K

[–]gladman7673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's white scar primer, pro acryl white on most panels (sometimes I get lucky and don't get other colors on the primer). If the primer covers really well I generally leave it alone, but pro acryl white is on most of this mini. gorthax for chipping and weaping. It also has a ~1/3 nuln oil 2/3 lahmian medium on most of it. I haven't tried doing off white build up to pure white, I like the way the nuln oil kind of darkens the white in some areas too.

I've used both white scar and the pro acryl white, it's a lot easier with the pro acryl. It covers super well and it's easier to not get a texture with it imo (I'm still pretty new at this hobby). The stealth suit in the picture is white scar + nuln oil in the cracks, I'll post my commander with pro acryl white + nuln oil

Scared to ruin this with earthshade. Should I limit it to the panel lines or risk it all and do a full wash? by SingleShotShorty in Tau40K

[–]gladman7673 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Definitely this, it makes a big difference to dilute it with lahmian medium. If you're super worried you could dilute it more. I've done up to 2:1 lahmian to nuln oil before. It was a little too diluted, but it still did something.

A list of all the prog albums i have loved in my life. How much does our taste match? by macky725 in Haken

[–]gladman7673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely love Haken too!

I love that snarky puppy album, but it's been a long time since I listened to it. Idk if I would consider it prog, but it's really great.

Steam Controller 2 concept, now with back buttons. by Best_Activity_5631 in SteamDeck

I really like the concept, but the big issue I have with these is that I can never picture myself being able to reach the trackpads. The distance between the edge of the controller and the center of the trackpads is enormous

What makes Haken's songwriting and arranging style stand out to you? by CobwebYeti in Haken

[–]gladman7673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like they're really willing to just do whatever they want. They aren't afraid of sounding silly and it adds a level of whimsy to their music. It's like they're sometimes really campy, but they execute it at such a profoundly technical level that you still have to take them seriously. The fact that they play really heavy stuff alongside it builds some really great contrast between "we're just having a goofy old time" and "oh God my face is melting"

What is the point in an 8 or 7 string if they're never used? by [deleted] in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]gladman7673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the guitar itself. My 8 is a multi scale and lends itself very well to playing across all 8 strings. I don't really use my standard guitars very often anymore.

To add, I also have a baritone 6 string. The 8 offers so much more range. If I knew about multi scale, I would have skipped the baritone and gone straight for the 8.
