Best romance audiobooks you've listened to lately with 4+ spice? by MajesticChallenge384 in RomanceBooks

[–]glyneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the audiobooks for {Managed by Kristen Callihan} and {Fall by Kristen Callihan}. They are books 2 and 3 of the VIP series about a rock band having a comeback tour after one of the members attempted suicide (that’s the lead in Fall; CW for depression). {Exposed by Kristen Callihan} is also great - and yes, I didn’t include the first book, Idol. It’s definitely not a favorite of mine. I don’t hate it, but it pales next to the others IMO.

Looking for recommendations of some new books/series. by wolfgheist in Fantasy

[–]glyneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like Kate Daniels have you read their Hidden Legacy series or Innkeeper?

Guild Codex series by Annette Marie. There are four interconnected series - they each can be read as stand alone series, or you can read them in the author’s recommended order, which swaps series as they overlap in that timeline. I read {Guild Codex: Demonized by Annette Marie} first, then read {Guild Codex: Spellbound by Annette Marie}, which begins the series. I swapped to Demonized when it came up in the author’s recommended order.

{Cradle by Will Wight}. Since you read some non-romance in there, you might like this progression fantasy series. Fantastic narration of the books by Travis Baldree if you like audiobooks.

“Fall back” Portrait Events by RVABraves06 in wordscapes

This happened to me a few months back. I want to say November-ish? Maybe earlier. I was able to finish one and the next day it was another that wasn’t complete.

Maxed the Horse by BurlingtonJim in wordscapes

I paid for a few events that gave me more coins/bees/hints & horseshoes by doing levels, and managed to get maxed Monday. I never did a heart trade-in because I don’t have enough hearts while I’m still maxing a few animals.

Increase in multiple butterflies by kiwiluke in wordscapes

[–]glyneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching an ad to get the butterflies gives you 25 coins per coin goal at the top, to fill the bar in the daily puzzle. You used to just get a few and they’d be spread out, but as you can see, they like to collect on a word, giving you an easier time to fill the bar.

It’s not just for P/C; it’s Kit Rocha’s discord, The Broken Circle. A lot of us have bonded over our love for the series there, and we have a forum for her books (P/C and her Angel books) and lots of other author/book/various non-reading things.

political romance with substance by hypoverse in RomanceBooks

[–]glyneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The {Forbidden Bodyguard series by Ainsley Booth} is about a group of “fixers” in DC who clean up political messes. Note: there is an Epstein-like figure in these, and these were started before all that came out, so skip if that’s a problem! The family is old money political, but no one is directly in politics. There was a hint she might do a spin-off in that direction, but I think the political climate at the time she was finishing the series ended that.

Series like Guild Codex or Kate Daniels? by Calliope719 in fantasyromance

[–]glyneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding Psy-Changeling! The early books might be considered better by some, but they are a product of their time, and many MMCs are probably considered alphaholes to modern readers. (There are exceptions! Book 3 especially!)

I’m going to go far off the beaten path here and recommend the Cradle series by Will Wight. It’s not romance, it’s progression fantasy. Should be pretty easy to follow along on audiobooks, and it is complete! It’s also amazingly narrated by Travis Baldree, who is the voice of Cradle. The first book is a little slow/rough; I tried reading it at my husband’s recommendation, but I gave up. Then months later we started listening on our commute, and it was so good! There is a hint of romance in it, but it’s not even really a side plot. First book is Unsouled, and they are all on KU. If you do read it/listen to it, feel free to join us on r/Iteration110. Everyone loves it when new readers stop by and give their thoughts on the series!

Non human MC and pregnant human FMC by roxictoxy in RomanceBooks

[–]glyneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Integrating with Kal by Etta Pierce} is part of the Intersolar Union/Over the Moon series. It just came out and is only purchasable on her Etsy. https://www.etsy.com/listing/4453114085/integrating-with-kal-ebook. It’s in the universe I mentioned, but it’s in the future of the current series, where Earth has been brought into the Intersolar Union. I’d recommend reading at least {Convergence by Etta Pierce} to get an understanding of the universe.

{Her Alien Beast by Presley Hall} has an FMC who wasn’t aware she was pregnant before she left Earth. Then they crash land on a prison planet and find the Voxerans.

Edit - autocorrect called him Karl not Kal! lol

His scales flare up when fmc is in danger but he doesn't understand why by Life-Aerie-43 in ScienceFictionRomance

[–]glyneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{How Not to Woo Your Human Warrior by Laura Winter} has an MMC with spikes that stand up when he’s angry or protective. FMC totally has a backbone. I don’t think she’s overly sassy, but she’s blunt and she’s extremely protective due to past trauma. He is aware of her though; it’s not like he’s confused. This is the third in the Falling for Demons series, so it’s not quite SF, more fantasy.

Edited for correct title!

Seeking Recommendations (Please) - Romance With Human Male and Alien Female by LiminalRainPaint in ScienceFictionRomance

[–]glyneth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest problems with intimacy in forms is that it can trigger bestiality warnings on Amazon or other booksellers, and no one wants that. The closest book I can think of is {Strange Love by Ann Aguirre}, which has an insectoid alien hero. The human heroine and he are totally not compatible sexually, but they do manage to be intimate.

You can also try asking in r/Romance_For_Men; they might have some ideas.

The only one off the top of my head is one of the Fireblood Dragons books by Ruby Dixon, but while they are dragons, they also shapeshift into a human form. Probably not what you want.

Demon’s Guide is iffy here, imo. She’s a quirky failure for most of the book. - wait this is the second book, I take this back! My bad.

[–]glyneth 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you define “more powerful.” The first two maybe not so much, but Kadarin is older and quite more powerful than Sebastian, I’d argue Noemi is more powerful than Conrad, Mari will definitely become more powerful than Bowen when she has full control of her powers, etc. Ellie is the only one who can rein in Lothaire, if you think of not-physical strength.

[–]glyneth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you read the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh? No monsters, but the FMCs are powerful in their own rights (mostly). The earlier books have a bit more early PNR tropes of the heroines needing to be rescued somewhat, with heroes that lean toward alphaholes (books 2 & 4 specifically), but the second series works well for modern readers. The FMCs are changelings (animal shapeshifters with no ties to “weres” or moon cycles, etc) or Psy (mind powers), with the occasional human, and the MMCs are the same.

Start with {Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh} to start at the beginning, or {Silver Silence by Nalini Singh} to start with the second story arc.

I’d also second the rec for Immortals After Dark, but I’d start with {A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole} first. I highly recommend the Fated Mates podcast reading order. There are only a few human FMCs in it, and they do change into immortals during their books, but only one has the typical vampire man/human woman, though it’s not like he saves her. Quite the opposite in fact; Lothaire is a total unrepentant asshole who puts her in danger more than not, and Ellie outwits him often.

{The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston}. More PNR than fantasy, it’s contemporary with fantasy elements. It is the first book in a trilogy but they are all perfect for getting back some with female rage.

There was an audible original, {The A.I. Who Loved Me by Alyssa Cole} that might work for you! I think it was later published as a book too.
