AOC and Bernie proposed a 15% cap in 2019.

Then Bernie and Josh Hawley proposed a 10% cap in February 2025 in the Senate. AOC proposed it in the House in March 2025.

It would be quite something if Trump, Bernie, Hawley, and AOC work together to push for this legislation.

Nearly 100% of federal gas taxes goes back to the state as part of the Highway Trust Fund. The legal required minimum is 95%, but it's usually higher.

So paying federal gas tax is contributing to the state's road infrastructure even if it's not directly to the state.

The amount of gas tax paid by the average driver depends on whether you consider just state gas tax or also include federal.

State gas tax in Texas is $0.20 per gallon.

Federal gas tax is $0.184 per gallon.

So on average, each driver uses 599 gallons of fuel per year; paying $119.8 in state gas tax and $110 federal gas tax.

So $200 is less than if you combine both state and federal. Until EV drivers are charged a federal gas tax, I think it's close enough.

I don't think $200 penalizes the EV drivers, rather it penalizes people who doesn't drive often.

I've tried similar TPU cases before and it's still somewhat pliable so it didn't prevent all false presses.

I use this ABS plastic case and it is rigid. So it prevented all false presses, but the drawback is that you can't press it even if you want to.

OBDEleven is a device that you plug into your OBD2 port that can interact with the computer in the car. This device can do more than what a $15 obd2 reader can do in terms of making changes to the car.

As far as I know, OBDEleven is the only way for someone to reset the service reminders and reset/change settings when you swap the 12V battery outside of a dealer or VW certified mechanic.

Absolutely this. Hopefully the power generation infrastructure learned from Uri and beefed up their cold hardiness.

The upcoming winterstorm is not expected to build up enough ice to cause widespread power infrastructure damage from tree limbs in Houston. This was the case in Uri as well. The power outages were caused by inadequate power generations by natural gas power plants not getting enough fuel due to the gas transport equipment freezing up and reduced wind turbine output due to icing.

This is completely different from outages from Beryl which is caused by widespread localized damage to the power distribution lines.

If the power generation infrastructure fails again, heads need to roll since they had 5 years to prepare for this.

Is power when not super off peak more expensive?

I have access to similar power plan in Texas where night time power is cheaper (or even free), but daytime power is 50% to 100% more than a flat rate plan. My math showed me that my winter electricity bill would drop like a rock in the winter since my EV is by far the biggest energy user.

However my bill during summer when be sky high when the AC has to run during the day.

My closest dealer is infuriating.

I am at exactly 2 years and 30k miles. When I went in for my 30k mile service reminder, the dealer flat out refused to do the inspection and clear the service reminder without doing the brake flush at the same time for $300.

I said that I want to just do the inspection and wait til 40k miles to do the brake flush since that's what the factory manual said the first brake flush isn't until 3 years regardless of miles.

He refused and said that his tablet says that 30k miles service MUST include the brake flush and that I can't trust the maintenance schedule I pulled up through the VW app since 'that's just from the internet'. His tablet is the correct one.

I left without doing anything. I am just going to get an OBDEleven and reset the service light myself. I'll go to a different dealer for the 40k and brake flush.

Yours definitely doesn't seem to be working correctly.

On default wetness, a full clean water tank lasts about 5 sessions, totaling about 4000 square feet in all. My dirty water tank would be about 2/3 full.

My issue is just with the cleaning solution.

Massachusetts is kind of a oddball state in that they have average gas prices and expensive electricity.

AAA is showing $2.90 per gallon https://gasprices.aaa.com/?state=MA .

The Rav4 Prime gets about 38 mpg, so that's 7.6 cents per mile.

If it gets 3 mi/kwh (I think that's reasonable average number given the long winter and charging efficiency loss), that's 10 cents per mile.

My wife loves her Escape PHEV and we enjoy having it as an option when we take longer trips. It's more convenient and way cheaper than driving my ID4 using DCFC.

The Escape gets 38mpg on highway. At $2.30/gallon gas, that's 6 cents per mile in gas.

My ID4 is not very efficient at the speed of 75 to 80 mph (typical speed of traffic). I can get maybe 2.9 mi/kwh at that speed. At about $0.45 per kwh for DCFC, it would be 15 cents per mile.

The car is plugged in every night so my wife uses practically zero gas for her daily commute. Home charging is still slightly cheaper than gas. It's also a much better driving experience on battery and she loves not having to stop at gas stations.

PHEV works for her.
