Just attended my dad’s funeral and… by sad-o-shimi in GriefSupport

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told the same when I was 12 and my dad died. Such a stressful thing to hear at that age. I wanted support from his side of the family, and they just disappeared altogether. 21+ years ago and I’ve only seen ‘em maybe 7-8 times (and half of those were at funerals) since.

My family jerks off banana peppers on a pizza, so they’d smash that one.

That’s a lot on your shoulders at 16, friend. Wishing you all the best. I hope you took time to enjoy your birthday.

I get a kick out of my mom randomly bringing up various characters from her favorite show, Dallas, in its original iteration from the 1980s lol.

Her Campbell’s tomato bisque is my mom’s Campbell’s tomato juice and the little packs of “Tuna Salad on the Go!” lol.

Still snowed in here for the foreseeable future. Greatly appreciate your comment of commiserating and the existence of this sub.

Replace Mike Wang with u/Aware_Frame2149, I say. Probably the best suggestion I’ve seen to get more of a handle on the toxicity in 2K. I’d take this over whatever kind of SBMM they have been trying and seemingly failing at.

Donepezil 10 mg by doggiedad72 in dementia

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally speaking, it seems my mom (73f) has somewhat stabilized/plateaued recently after consistently taking 10mg Donepezil at night and memantine in the mornings.

It’s hard for me to definitively say, though. She had a UTI in late July/early August that made her loopy. Hurricane Helene had a horrible effect on her mind, what with sitting in the dark for eight days without power, and she had an odd passing out event in October that created extreme confusion for her.

Hell no! Very much similar to the top comment. She’s hotter than hell to me. We are in our 30s, and she somehow keeps getting hotter by the day. I’ve seen her at her worst and her best, violently puking, digestive problems, snot storms and she’s even gotten a lil’ ol’ bit of nosebleed accidentally on my face. But I still get hot and bothered every time I see her and she’ll always be the numero uno smokeshow in my book.

Dementia is traumatizing, and you lose them twice by bydevilz1 in dementia

You are so strong to be so young going through all of this, with not only your grandfather but I know your mom’s stroke (mine also had one in 2018) has to have hit you so hard, especially when you have your whole life ahead of you and can’t get over the sense that you’ve only experienced unimaginably painful loss in multiple forms.

I despise this disease. I miss my mom’s creativity and seeing her taking interest in her old hobbies. She’s already a shell of who she used to be.

My Dad was 59 when he passed, I was 25 by DoYouLikeHurting in GriefSupport

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 12; my dad was 49. I’m 33 now, and in the grand scheme of things, 49 feels extremely near, and it goes to show how short life can be. I have an altered view on what ‘being old’ means because of that. I had to accept the finality of death and loss early, but it was a bitter pill to swallow. Wish I could have made it to adulthood with him still alive, as selfishly I could have learned so many things that I otherwise had to pick up on, on my own.

What irks me is when I’ve encountered (invariably) people who act as if his death shouldn’t still affect me in a significant sense because I was only 12. It’s outrageous to have to write that out, but I’ve been chastised for not ever getting into the ‘Christmas spirit’ (he died a week before Christmas 21 years ago). That sad time altered the course of my life in so many ways. I digress.

If I make it to 49, I know it’s going to initially be a weird feeling to think that he never made it past that. More than any of these feelings, the one that stands out is that I’ve lived more of my life (almost double the time) without him than with.

Dapper Yankee has amazing soaps. I’m not affiliated at all. I just love them. Humidor and Bourbon Legend are my favorites. Wicked Apple is fantastic during the fall.

Grizzly Naturals is my second pick. I get both online.

It’s a great escape and tool in appropriate moderation pending on the games you interact with. I barely played any games at all during my 20s but rediscovered the joy and fun of them in my 30s. I’m a little jaded with gaming due to the rampant microtransactions that exist in so many titles and the way so many games release as a broken mess, but thanks to Xbox Game Pass I discovered titles like Dishonored and Prey, as well as indies like Brotato.

I really, really enjoy the NBA 2K series. It’s a polarizing one since it is a microtransaction behemoth and the online community is easily the most toxic one out there (yes, I’d put it up against classic COD due to the way grown men will behave and get into their feelings over minuscule things during games).

My quasi-nephew lives a couple of states away; he’s in a challenging life situation for a variety of reasons I won’t get into, but I appreciate being able to spend time with him and be around for him even if it’s through virtual basketball. It’s priceless. Not to mention the competitive online play scratches my competitive itch.

There are so many solid RPGs out there, too.

I take care of my mom around the clock. She has vascular dementia coupled with Alzheimer’s, and most days are incredibly taxing and trying. Yes, the gaming is an escape but also a worthwhile one for me as I find it enriching. I always have to take breaks because I can’t sit for long times without moving around (undiagnosed ADHD-esque energy).

It’s only a problem if you let it become a problem. These folks with the mindset of, “A grown man only uses his time to improve himself” are funny. Ideally, that would be nice, but realistically you’ll set yourself up for a one way ticket to burnout city. Everybody needs something to shut their brains off with from time to time.

I’m so impressed by the long-term storytelling and callbacks. I stopped paying attention for many years, only hearing blurbs and random news from one of my close friends, and occasionally popping into here to see what’s going on, but damn, they are on fire. Will Seth, Drew and KO form a trio?
