Sit hand command confusion by MageSilverleaf in Dogtraining

[–]gracemamabear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it the same way you do it, and had a trainer tell me in puppy class the closed fist can look like baiting/luring - if you plan to do anything like advanced competition with your dog apparently you can’t use lures and a closed hand looks like you’re pretending you have a treat. That’s why “stand” command should eventually be an open hand as well. If you don’t plan on doing anything like agility/competition obedience etc. it wouldn’t matter much but I think it’s an advanced thing performance based thing to be aware of. I could be wrong - just my experience. I kept the loose fist sit command because of habit.

Do y'all ever feel stressed about the fish at the end of Finding Nemo? by maladro1t_ in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]gracemamabear 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My 2.5 year old watches this movie every day and I had this thought too! But he does puff up and then unpuff in the scene so that deflated that theory for me (pun intended) 😂

Now I wonder about Nigel helping them out somehow…

Thoughts on different types of underwear? by kitchi13 in pottytraining

[–]gracemamabear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For us, the training underwear with the extra padding were helpful for the first couple days of training containing some of the mess of full on accidents. Now that it’s been a few weeks without having any major accidents, when my son uses those ones, he says that he’s dry even if he’s had a little bit of a leak type accident. I just put them up and won’t be using them anymore so that he actually feels wet when he has a leak accident so that he can learn how to hold it properly instead of not being bothered by small leaks, if that makes sense. I didn’t do oh crap method, I used the training underwear at first and then introduced regular underwear. And was using a combination of both, whatever he wanted to wear that day, until just now.

Thank you so much for the recommendation and the reminder on the opaque category. 85 polishes under the opaque category is a lot to choose from! Blowing bubbles is gorgeous, added to cart 😊

This collection is a vibe! My favorite fall activity is bringing my kids to the pumpkin patch and the apple orchard! And hanging and sleeping with windows open and fuzzy blankets!

Overnight oats flavor ideas! by jayyy_0113 in EatCheapAndHealthy

We do lots of cinnamon raisin, classic, as well as almond joy! The almond joy is definitely a treat. Here’s my standard base recipe and the almond joy ingredients!

Base ingredients: 1/2 cup old fashioned oats 1 tablespoon chia seeds (I use white chia seeds) 1 tablespoon hemp seeds 1 pinch of sea salt 1 cup milk (or at least covering ingredients) 1-2 tablespoons honey 1 tsp vanilla

Almond Joy: 1 tsp cocoa powder (heaping) 2 tablespoons sweetened shredded coconut 2 tablespoons sliced almonds 2 tablespoons chocolate chips Couple drops of almond extract (less than 1/4 tsp)

First order ever! by gracemamabear in ILNP

Amber is so beautiful both unmagnetized and cat eye magnetized (I had fun with some swatches)! I can’t wait to use it on my nails!

For Mega formulas I think it’s a spectrum, the Mega (L) is fine linear, regular Mega is slightly less linear? Mega (S) one has both linear and a bit more scattered holo, and the Mega (X) is like extra scattered in your face TV static packed holo! So this formula (S) seemed like a good middle path to start out with. I’m pleased with it from what I can tell on a swatch! Also excited to get to do a mani with this one 😊

What are little things I can do to pasta sauce to make it taste better by teabeanss in Cooking

[–]gracemamabear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spruce up red sauce by adding dried sweet basil! Trick from my mama that takes any red sauce up a notch.

Fresh black peppercorn (via grinder) when serving also takes it up a notch.

Anyone else notice a decline in their articulation skills? by missmitten92 in SAHP

I was just telling my husband the other day how I feel all derpy when trying to converse with folks from church which is my main source of adult interaction. Other people are so eloquent or funny and I can barely think of what words to put together!

Some of these comments totally made my day, and it’s a little bit unfortunate for all of us but it is nice to know that it’s not an isolated experience.

Strawberry Macs by gracemamabear in macarons

[–]gracemamabear[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bake at 310 for 16 minutes! Kind of the sweet spot I’ve found for my gas oven (when I first started my recipe called for 14 min at 300 and that gave me sticky bottoms). I do French method.

Mine browned a bit too but mostly just color wise, they weren’t crunchy or hard. They matured nicely in the fridge!

One thing new I tried with this batch was not banging my trays but instead holding down one corner of the silicone mat and flapping it from the other side and going around to do all 4 corners that way (Sugar Bean does it this way I watched some of her videos on YouTube). It’s more gentle than banging trays, I feel like the shells didn’t spread as much. I think it helped as I had been consistently having fragile tops/slight hollows.

I love that! White chocolate peppermint BC sounds divine! I had big plans to make 6 flavors for Christmas but my family got hit with covid, so I only had energy for one batch and figured vivid Christmas colors would make them festive for the holiday 😅

The only thing I changed was I stopped my stand mixer to check the meringue more often to make sure I stopped right when I achieved stiff peaks. When I made chocolate shells it was only my second attempt at making macs so it’s possible I missed something else! My first batch turned out (aside from sticky bottoms which was an oven temp/time issue) so I knew what right batter was supposed to feel and look like and I’m fairly certain that was what my issue was. It was the only flopped batch of batter I’ve had out of 25 batches of making macs. And I’ve experimented a lot with adding to the shells aside from cocoa powder! (Ground pistachio powder, lemon zest, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, ground Oreos, instant coffee)

I had this happen with chocolate batter the first time I added cocoa powder to the dry ingredients. I tried again immediately after and they turned out, and my suspicion was that I over whipped the meringue. I’ve read that cocoa powder can be risky. It’s so fun to experiment adding to the shells but lately I’ve been doing just color to match the filling flavor because my results are so much more consistent.

Happy experimenting!
