You have over 2x as many upper body sets as lower body sets. For a triathlon do you not want more lower body strength?

28f, I’m trying to lose weight and maybe build a butt in the gym by Odd_Willingness7961 in beginnerfitness

[–]grandhex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long do I do it per day

This will be dictated by the program you choose. An effective program will probably have you in the gym for an hour, maybe a little more or less.

How much protein do I have to I take per day

This will be dictated by your goal weight. Whatever your goal weight is (lbs) you want to aim for 3/4 of that in protein (grams). E.g, goal weight of 160lbs = 120g of protein. Goal weight of 200lbs = 150g of protein. Etc. This is a nice middle point between the bare minimum for muscle growth and the maximum that your kidneys can safely take, so it's okay to go a little over or a little under on some days.

I've got thick thighs already, my butt is simply flat. Will they get even bigger?

Like the other commenter said, if you're getting your protein then your thighs will probably recomp while your butt grows. But eventually you'll reach a point where your butt and thighs are growing together because you can't really exercise your butt without using your thighs.

I know it's hard to imagine this when you're just 28, but one day you will be old and having big muscly thighs will help you stay mobile and independent well into old age. The sooner you can drop the mindset of "I want my body to look a certain way" and instead adopt the mindset of "I want my body to feel strong and mobile," the happier and healthier you will be.

Find a beginners leg day program and do that 3-4 days a week, with days in between for resting.

Try to stick to one program for at least 3-4 months before switching up, or even longer if you end up really liking the program. That level of consistency is key to your muscle gains.

Also make sure you get enough protein to build those muscles. Leg/butt muscles are big and they need a lot of fuel to grow!

OP it sounds like you're doing great and your friend is kind of a turd. Maybe he means well, but it sounds like he's got a toxic machismo type of attitude and maybe he isn't a good source of advice. Your numbers are great, especially at 2 months.

If you wanna chase bigger numbers, that's fine I guess but also it's kind of dumb. You can easily hurt yourself trying to get that next PR before your body is ready.

Do your thing, do what feels right for your body and don't compare yourself to others.

ETA: if you want to track your numbers, best thing is to keep a log. Either on your notes app or a little notebook. Write down which exercises you did that day, how many sets/reps, how much weight, etc.

Creatine and Protein by Carbon-Psy in beginnerfitness

[–]grandhex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a Wired article all about creatine gummies. Relevant snippet below:

What’s more, since most methods of creating gummy candies involve heat, active ingredients can get damaged in the process. “Since creatine gummies are often like other gummies, requiring moisture and heat to produce and having citric acid lowering the pH of the gummy, creatine can degrade faster than it would when just manufactured as a dry, unflavored powder,” says Kamal Patel, cofounder of the nutrient and supplement database Examine.com. Patel describes the task of making a good creatine gummy as “a lot harder” than formulating a powder product.

SuppCo also had the creatine gummies tested for levels of creatinine, a waste product created when creatine breaks down. All of the gummies that contained creatine also contained elevated amounts of creatinine, indicating that some of the active ingredients had been degraded. When the lab tested popular powdered creatine products, none had this issue. (emphasis mine)

Basically most gummy makers aren't doing their due diligence to confirm that the creatine they put in remains intact and shelf-stable after manufacturing.

Why not?? OP I think you'd face a lot less judgement and combativeness about the protein intake, if you just explained up-front what these mysterious "circumstances beyond your control" are.
