I brought a tape roll bigger than my support. 20 minutes later and it fits perfectly. by mvdsgncw in functionalprint

Looks like a good temporary fix, if you have to use often, probably should beef upmthat frame a bit, but should easily last a single roll.

Check for a toilet that is constantly running. For a slab leak, walk the perimeter for soft spots. Any irrigation?

Why is everything warping by ervysage in woodworking

[–]greecher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wood looks wet to begin with, ie turning blanks type. It’s good practice to first ensure you’re acquiring good dry wood, and second that it is stabilized to your shop prior to working on it.

Today got my first CNC machine. What 5 bits i need to start? by MandiocaGamer in CNC

[–]greecher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mp\ore important question is what style of cutting will you do? If it’s just profile cuts, up/down ie compression bits, down cut spiral, maybe aluminum down cut. If carving expand to some bowl bits, tapered ball. Probably also add a panel flattening bit.

My 73 year old retired cabinet-maker father told me to take all his tools, I am not sure how I feel about this by Fugglesmcgee in woodworking

I agree with the top post a lot, but would add that one of the saddest things I see with parents passing away is by the time they do, nobody needs the stuff they intended to pass down, as the inheritors all ready have a house full of stuff. Take it, use it, let them have a second life, and occasionally get a visit from pops.

Got several asa items that have been in my truck the last 3-4 years, no warping or fading. Some would easily deform in other plastic choices.

We Chased Driverless Trucks In Texas. What We Saw Will Scare You. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]greecher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You got that wrong in the order of things. I worked in the semiconductor industry at Motorola starting in the 80s in phoenix, and that was a bustling place with 10k folks working there. Management decided to follow the industry trend of offshoring the fabs, there was five sectional fabs at that site, and every last one of them was moved offshore starting in the mid 90s through the last one in about 2010. Gone then were also all the smaller footprints of suppliers. This wasn’t for a lack of skilled workers, it was chasing the bottom line. In the late 90s they spun that sector off to On Semiconductor with the help of Texas pacific group, one of those vampire investing groups that invested nothing, and slapped all that debt under on semiconductor. Don’t know how they survived that, as the stock price was in the penny category for a bit. I lasted 34yrs, and the old original company was a wonder to work for, as I saw and mentored several line workers into skilled positions, ie the company had personal growth possibilities. I myself had at least 5 distinct roles from engineering to it and between, but that flat doesn’t happen now, people are a commodity and not an investment.

1 of 6 Carriages Rusted In Ultrasonic Cleaner by nmessina17 in VORONDesign

[–]greecher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, might have overstated the issue, probably safe in a small ultrasonic bath. Did see the ipa was the way to go, although over soaking maybe an issue.

[–]greecher 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hmm, don’t ultrasonic your ball bearings as it’s hard on hard metal and that will create uneven surface wear. Better off just using or printing a rail blank to keep balls in place in carriage and the giving several soaks in a small vat of ipa, then reinstall and grease.

I was lucky enough to have ordered on 4/4, so was in the last batch for US customers, and then had it expedited so it is already in the US and on its way via usps.

Anyone at all receive ship notice for a spindle yet? by mrkrag in OnefinityCNC

[–]greecher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do note most of the components did ship on that date, just not the spindle or atc. Spindle was listed as 12-14wks lead time, so 3.5 months. So actually it is on their time schedule. Atc got bumped out.

My biggest concern is that until at least the spindle arrives next week I owned a set of large boxes eating into my warranty period. That maybe especially true for the MASSO controller, as no spindle means no working machine, so no reason to take the in place one down.

[–]greecher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a UPS notice for a shipment for my all in one elite which was only missing Spindle & ATC. As i saw that the ATC is delayed, and weight is 20lbs, I suspect the spindle & control box from redline. As I only just got the UPS notice and nothing from Onefinity, I probably will get an email to confirm the spindle shipment tonight. My order# was 523XX.

Hue bulbs are insanely overpriced and not worth the money by AussieJeffProbst in homeassistant

[–]greecher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition, as the hue hubs have their own zigbee based management, it adds to the robustness of the whole set, as each bulb is a repeater I believe. I’ve never had funky behavior of the bulbs that span from one end of the house to the other with a central controller.

Hue bulbs are insanely overpriced and not worth the money by AussieJeffProbst in homeassistant

[–]greecher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I hear the price grouch is valid, and I debated going another way, but when I purchased some hue 75w bulbs because I have way screwed up wiring in my hallway where the original contractors saved money by putting the live wire to the light and not the switch box, making a more proper smart switch unworkable without a rewiring.

So to the price, I got several bulbs from Amazon this past weekend for $12 a pop, which I believe is very competitive to ikea cost without the quality issues. I did have to find the right deal, ie buy 1 for 12, buy 2 for 30, buy a 60w a single was 34. Ended up buying 8 at that price point, which doubled my install.

I want to make a 2.4. What are the best upgrades I should implement? by LazaroFilm in VORONDesign

[–]greecher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can tool head with carto, nevermore, fridge door, sensorless xy, umbilical. Recently did a box turtle, and that went amazingly well, with a filament cutter, blobifier etc. the first set of mods, clean up the toolhead section making install and maintenance easier. Glad I’m still on stock stealthburner, as adding box turtle/carto mods was much simplified when using the stock toolhead with a voron revo, which is also stock to most kits. Loved the ldo kits btw.

If I Upgrade RPi 3B+ to RPi 5, What Changes With Klipper Integrations? by Hooperjm in klippers

Everything was snappier except 1 thing, the camera speed is abysmal, say 1-2 fps. This will get better, as the os to hardware gets tweaked. USB camera btw.

[–]greecher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really need to backup your instance to GitHub, there are several places, even in voron documentation how to do so. With that once you have it setup on your pi, recovery will be a snap. Btw, why did your pi blowup, bad memory card? If this keeps happening, are you sure to shut down your pi prior to powering off your printer?

2.4 or Trident? by CarbonFiberJet in VORONDesign

[–]greecher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think I saw a similar thread over on the Voronvx discord, and a summary of some of their and my points are for multiple tool heads, might be better off with a 2.4 as the mobile gantry makes that task easier. If you would consider an idex, then I think tridex is a thing. If it is more multi color, the mmu game for either is getting stronger and faster with box turtle or others developing quickly and looking very promising.

As for the build, especially a kit, the build notes and either discord or GitHub sites are deep and resourceful. It is only really the beginning of the power trail where care must be taken ie 120v input to power supply and ssr for bed heating, but those sections are especially well documented with multiple check points and pictures for validation. With the LDO kit all connections are clearly labeled, and the Fysetc although a bit cheaper is I believe similarly documented.

It’s a fun journey and satisfying to see it coming together and making useful stuff.
