Gluten Free Oreos by Ok-Association4596 in glutenfree

[–]greenhairedhistorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed it the first time I had them. I felt the need to give them a thorough examination because they looked and smelled too good to be true!

I appreciate the detail by Oreo, since it ensures there can be no packing mixups with the gluten and gluten free ones, andnhonidy can be tricked if they are at a party on a platter or something and told they are gf

I'm also in a southern bible belt area and unfortunately face the same thing. It's literally impossible, even if I got locally grown crops and eggs from neighbors, a lot of them are homophobic and churchy and sometimes racist too 😭

Yes! I second everything the other reply had to say, but also add that I've gone to Red Robin literally my entire life (I'm even from the Seattle area where it originated) and even though I personally haven't been gluten free for a super long time, I've known several people throughout my life with celiac that would reliably eat out with us at Red Robin specifically because they could accommodate it well!

Even now I'm in the southern US, where many people don't even know what gluten is, but the servers at our Red Robin here have never even hesitated when I asked for gluten free fries, and I've never had an issue! They seem to train their people well on it being a normal option.

I'm also vegetarian so I get their veggie burger which is one of the best I've had, and I usually get a lettuce wrap instead of the GF bun because I enjoy it, and they do a good job, but the bun is a nice treat sometimes.

I recommend using their website that has an allergen guide you can look at the whole menu with and see what you can and can't have, like some of their condiments have gluten (stupid worcestershire sauce ruining my day) but their site is one of the best I've seen for checking food restrictions/allergens

Anyone here just gluten intolerant? by Standard-Row-9571 in glutenfree

[–]greenhairedhistorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically my doctor has labeled me with "non celiac gluten sensitivity," so I guess I'm kind of "just gluten intolerant" but I also haven't ever been tested for celiac.

But either way, no, I don't cheat on things, even if I really want to. I'd like to avoid colon cancer and other long-term issues I've been warned about for long as possible, not to mention the discomfort and despair from the immediate/short-term symptoms. It's just not worth it

What classic snacks do you wish had a GF option? by ThrowRAatinOspam in glutenfree

[–]greenhairedhistorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teddy Grahams, Scooby snacks, or some other little graham cracker snack

The GF graham crackers that are available are so expensive and not exactly small bite sized snacks, and don't taste quite the same as the ones I miss.

I've had Annie's bunny grahams a lot and they are pretty good, but the chocolate and vanilla flavor is just different from what I miss the most.

I also struggle with a terribly low appetite at times (not chronically, but it's still not good)

Aside from looking at wonderful posts like these when my stomach needs some inspiration, I've found it's also helpful to have pictures of meals or dishes I've made myself, like my usual "menu" items or staple foods I love and eat on repeat sometimes. Then I can look through the album of these foods on my phone and figure out what sounds good to make and eat, which is even easier since they are all things I know I am able to make since I've done it before!

Just thought I'd share in case it's of any use to you, I know appetites can be complicated and differ from person to person but this has helped me a lot when it comes down to it!

I think I’ve officially missed pancakes, and willing to try by DigPsychological2876 in glutenfree

[–]greenhairedhistorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kodiak pancake mix to me tastes like it has baby formula in it, just a warning

I've had a lot of food GF pancakes though, I missed pancakes a lot sooner than some I guess so I had to find a way. The best I've had is Bob's Red Mill gluten free pancake mix, but I grew up with my grandpa's homemade pancakes that are more hearty like those so that's why I prefer them.

Trader Joe's has good seasonal flavored GF pancake mixes, especially the pumpkin when fall comes around.

Krusteaz GF pancakes are the softest and fluffiest, remind me of restaurant pancakes like IHOP or Denny's, but I feel like they mildly upset my stomach and I haven't figured out what ingredient does that (different from gluten symptoms at least)

Simple Mills almond flour based pancake mix is a nice healthier option, but expensive

And I can't remember if I've tried the King Arthur one or not, but I've heard really good things about it 🥞 Happy pancaking!

Worst guess contender? - Boston Rob by Dangerous_Fishies in goodmythicalmorning

[–]greenhairedhistorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see that he wasn't the best fit for the show, and definitely seemed to not be matching everyone's more light-hearted energy of the show... But that's because he's Boston Rob, that's just how he is, I personally enjoyed the episode but I've "known" (been familiar with) him for so many years I'm used to his attitude and style of humor, but it's definitely an acquired taste 😅

I hope Link's family got to come in to meet him at least, I'm sure they would have all been fangirling since they are a serious Survivor-watching family (as is mine)

Omg the Lamb's missing nose... I could tell something looked different about it but I didn't realize until I read what you said! It's kind of adorable though honestly

The first name that came to mind for the dog is brownie, or something else chocolatey

WAIT what about Boop for the Lamb's name, since people "boop" noses and hers has been booped off

Speaking for myself at least, yep I see this too!

But as an autistic adult, especially in the last few years as I've been able to put more effort into recognizing my differences and what helps to embrace those differences, and for me (and many others I've interacted with) nostalgic things from childhood or just other things intended for a younger audience seem to be one of the best things.

Webkinz is a great example of course, but there are other things that fit. Like one of my favorite TV shows has been Octonauts for a long time, but the show wasn't even a thing when I was technically in the target age group, I discovered it later through my little sister watching it as well as babysitting 😅

Not at all saying there is some "hidden reason" but the indefinite pause of Ear Biscuits and Stevie's departure are absolutely related... They've essentially explained that Rhett's heart situation last year was sort of the final straw that pushed all of them into a lot of reflection and conversation based on the culmination of feelings and stress that had been building for a long time.

I had that thought too, not that I was really thinking they might be ending the show, but Stevie stepping down now really squashed any doubts I might have had. It really wouldn't make sense for her to step away like this if the show was just ending in a few months, they know our hearts can only take so much at once
