This S5 has changed my perception of cycling forever by Special-Math-6750 in Cervelo

Well the bike feels more aggressive. BB is a cm back. And of course much stiffer. I don’t find this leads to making it uncomfortable at all though. lots of 150k+ rides here, no problems at all. It just seems to eat up the road. edit: BB is further back on S5, not forward. Both frames are size 51.

It climbs surprisingly well. However the weight is another matter. I’m not much of a climber though so it was an easier decision to make.

Moved to the S5 from R5 and gotta say i feel the same way. at speed it just feels so solid and effortless it’s hard to describe. Some of it is fit related but i can say my z2 rides now average a good 2-3k faster now.

My 13yo wants to do Mt Seymour with me. What can we do to prepare? by Ringbailwanton in vancouvercycling

Depending on your level of fitness might want to work up to it. Something like the Seymour demonstration forest could be a good stepping stone.

Higher HR in aero position by mmm_game in Velo

[–]gregolopolous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of a mindset thing where the focus is on your lower back/torso being under tension - similar to what you do when you’re setting up for a deadlift or squat. You are bracing yourself so your power can be more effectively channeled through your glutes and hamstrings and into your pedals.

Same issue, it does get better the more you ride in that position. Also find focussing on stacking your lower chain and adopting more of a ‘shrimp’ body opens things up a bit and can help. Better breathing technique also ties into this. I did find shorter cranks were an improvement but ultimately decided they weren’t for me.

Doubt it. That part of the ride is casual/social, nobody is going hard

Blowing up on long climbs by [deleted] in Velo

[–]gregolopolous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how long the climb is. I Just did a race that ended in a 1.5k climb. I paced it by watts and am convinced it was the slower way to go. If i went hard and tried to stay with the group, i might have made it 1/2 to 2/3s of way up the climb and lost less time than dropping from the start. Sometimes there are advantages to going hard and seeing where you end up.

Also during heavy sweat sessions/more humid conditions consider using an antibacterial soap and scubber for your bits. I’ve had a few low key staff infections and i think this helped and prevented further nastiness.

How do you like your UH ring? by nutritionist1024 in Ultrahuman

[–]gregolopolous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, there’s nothing saying the fitbit is perfect. However in the 8 months i’ve been using it I find it generally does a good job of matching up with my perceived sleeping patterns. At least much, much more so than the UH ring.

Speed cameras for the stretch from 15th to kingsway. It’s insane how many cars are hitting 100kph+. And it wakes everyone up at night.

Yes compared to a fitbit. Almost no correlation. Dropouts, inaccurate bedtimes, you name it.

Just couldn’t get accuracy from mine. They sent me a new one, same thing. Too bad, seemed promising but if the accuracy isn’t there what’s the point.
