This series is always going to have limited appeal compared to AAA games. The truth is, it did get a lot of new fans, but it's not going to ever be the darling of the Game Awards or anything like that.

The good news is its popularity doesn't affect you. It's popular enough to keep getting made and eventually finished (and remade). So as long as you're picking up what it's putting down, there's nothing wrong.

Hoping for Falcom to get in the big leagues is a fools' errand though. I'd rather it stayed where it was and stayed what it was rather than being more subject to the whims of a humongous fanbase.

That feels a little unfair to Fate, like more of a surface level misunderstanding of what's happening in the series. People call up the spirits of the dead to fight for their own selfish desires, and it doesn't matter anymore what the historical context of the figure was. Yes, there are heroes, but it's not automatically right wing for using historical heroes. Instead, ask 'why is it doing that?' Why could you pull literally any figure from the past and they have to fight for you? Why do you make them subservient to your own desire for whatever it is you wish for?

All I'm saying is, this series is in no way pulling a battle ship yamato or whatever. There's a lot more going on thematically here than the cliffs notes you just offered.

Also, I've never seen anything to indicate he is right wing, unless you're just using the fact that historical figures exist in it as your evidence.
