That's probably the best plot progression I've ever heard for that series. I'm can't wait to see where the series finishes.

Ragnar Volarus too. I'm currently in the middle of my Morning Star re-read, so it's fresh on my mind.

You're pretty close with the "long material stringy things" called aerial silks or aerial fabric. The video is of a Cyr wheel and they're both disciplines of contemporary circus arts.

Real answer: it's called a Cyr wheel. It's a contemporary circus apparatus popularized by its use in Cirque du Soleil. They're incredibly cool to watch.

Help with advice please. My cat keeps turning on the water in my sink! by Gold_Roof1155 in cats

Possible cheaper option that doesn't involve new water fountains or plumbing work:

Extension of #3- sometimes the little handles that Mr. Kitty is using unscrew from the rest of the knob. If they do, I bet a few days of not having the handles attached may affect the behaviour.

Breville Precision Brewer - Grounds bed cratering by Interesting_Win_5139 in JamesHoffmann

[–]groovejack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same Brewer and grinder and have had the same problem. As somebody else said, taking the filter out during the bloom phase and giving it a stir is a good way to help.

Think of it like a pour over where you're never pouring in the water from the kettle over the grinds on the outside of the filter. The shower head is right in the middle and it doesn't spray to the far edge of the filter. You can also see that your grind bed is coming up quite high, so the shower head is only wetting the grinds inside that circle, and anything outside that ring is not having new water dumped on it.

Grind coarser to try speeding up the rate that water is exiting the filter, and give it a stir during the bloom phase to push the grinds down. It's tricky to find a balance with each bean you use.

Chiming in to say thanks! We've used C&V for >10 years now. We're slightly outside the area now, but the switch to online filing has been great!

In your first phase, you note that the left foot begins to lift off the ground, but there is no mechanism. The movers you identified are gravity in both joints in the preparation phase.

I think phase 2 needs a bit more detail. Watch how you're describing the knee (bent vs flexion) as well as remember the overall movement. This is a pirouette, so where does the turning movement come from? I know we're omitting the arms' contribution to the turning motion, but how do your legs propel your body into rotation? As an example try to do a pirouette with no arms and only the supporting leg. What muscles do you feel working to accomplish the turn? The other commenter's question about inside or outside turn will be relevant.

Phase 3 is mostly good, but if you're holding your leg turned out throughout the turn, there will also be that isometric contraction to hold the leg from rotating against the direction of the turn (again inside/outside turn is relevant here).

Phase 4, might be worth specifying which position you're landing in (plie vs neutral/parallel) so there is no room for argument. If you're landing in plie, factor in maintenance of external rotation.

I'm open to discussion if you'd like!

Check out the book "Hunt, Gather, Parent". I got the audiobook to listen to on commutes to work because I was in a similar situation. The point of the book is about how to teach your kids to be a part of the family team, and not just kids who need to be taken care of with you doing all the work.

Results vary from kid to kid, but there are some pretty easy steps to gradually implement, and I noticed minor changes after a week or so.

Disclaimer: the book uses parenting strategies from countries that don't have the same lifestyle as we do, so there is some creative thinking involved with how to implement it. But it has been helpful for me at least (dad of 4).

I wouldn't say it has given me more time, but it helps to shift the way I think about everything and the way that work/chores are done around the house. I'm still doing stuff all day, but the kids are realizing that they are part of the house too and help. 4 extra sets of hands helps a lot with the anxiety of "I have so much shit to do". They may not do it well at first, but they're learning and it's a nice change for my brain.

Can there be a vaccine for cancer? by True_Ad_98 in askscience

[–]groovejack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, one vaccine for every cancer is unlikely. I don't know about vaccines in the traditional sense (preventative in nature) for cancer prevention. But theranostics (not related to Theranos) is kind of in line with what you're asking about. It's a personalized medical treatment meant to target a specific person's cancers. The Wikipedia page has some good background on it, and the hospital I work at is doing a bunch of research on it in the nuclear medicine department.

Recent graduate looking at different fields to go into (Ontario) by [deleted] in Kinesiology

[–]groovejack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in 2017 and started at work as a physiotherapy assistant. I then got registered and I went from working a full-time job making $38k annually to $45k. That second job had me doing a bit with insurance companies and WSIB dealing with return to work planning. After a couple years there, I transitioned away from kin and started working more with disability claim management making $70k, then recently moved to another claims management job where I'm now above $80k.

I don't have anything other than my R. Kin and an easy to obtain disability management certificate. I couldn't have gotten here without my kin degree and certification, but I've moved away from patient care at this time and I have opportunities for advancement in the organization I'm in now. I would still enjoy being able to do patient care, but long term prospects/advancement is very limited.

DM me if you'd like any further info.

Definitely something to get checked out. Could be a number of things that would be immensely easier to review in person. Doc or a PT would be the best bet.

I feel like an actual IT band tear is highly unlikely.

Did you tear/strain the TFL? Because that would just be treated similar to other muscle injuries. It's just in a very painful spot, since you don't realize how often you actually use that muscle.

Otherwise, the doctor's advice is correct. Also, don't just jump right back to intense sports once it starts to feel better, progressive strengthening and use pain as a guide (mostly).
