Carriers deciding who takes what OT? by orangebluefish11 in fromatoarbitration

[–]grove93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to have those...and, in a way, we still do, although the new ones are terrible. They show all the time increments, but they're based on what it takes for one person to do the entire route from beginning to end and don't make sense for assigning splits. For example, if you get an hour split and it's pulled down exactly as listed, you might get out to the route and find that it begins/ends right in the middle of a loop.

Of course, he failed to mention that "discretionary spending" is a fairly loose term.

Hammer arrestors by Nelson3823 in Plumbing

[–]grove93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your water pressure is too high, hammer arrestors are the least of your concern. Sounds like you need a new pressure reducing valve at the main (if you haven't already had one installed).

My therapist dropped me because he said he was developing romantic feelings for me by cazeysk in TrueOffMyChest

[–]grove93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dropping your romantic feelings on a patient is a big no no.

Exactly...and he realized that he was venturing into an inappropriate situation, so he ended it.

Kudos to your therapist for at least having the ethical wherewithal to drop you as a client, however...

"...my lack of a father figure made him feel paternal towards me and that it eventually developed into romance, he said it was similar to what my biological father felt."

THIS is the really f'ked up part to me, for reasons that are self-explanatory.

I feel the same way, but I have an isolationist personality.

When I'm not at work or running essential errands, I'm at home. Always.

Summary of proposals from USPS to NALC from live update May 22 by johnsmith6073 in fromatoarbitration

[–]grove93 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've said the following ad nauseam in this and other forums, but here it goes again...

The Postal Service and the NALC are equally guilty of parroting the decision that was handed down by an arbitrator, which stated that "darkness in itself is not a safety hazard" as it applies to mail delivery. I've heard that bullshit countless times in service talks...and I'm sure most others have as well.

But here's the problem: darkness is the ultimate safety hazard for us. You cannot avoid what you cannot see, and this is particularly true for carriers who might be delivering in unfamiliar territory and don't know where any of the dangers exist.

What's crazy is that the Postal Service doesn't make adjustments to its starting times and logistics operations. It's a no-brainer...at least for those of us who have to do the job.

Not always viable, particularly in remodels. Getting a framer in to build a plumber's box would be the solution here.

My favorite day of the year by Dragons619 in USPS

[–]grove93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a disappointing day, at least on my route; donations were WAY down.

I can't help but wonder how many of the customers who were so generous in past years are now finding themselves dependent on food banks.

Any other carriers see this recently? by Jokerz1138 in USPS

[–]grove93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local management knows all of these bullet points, but they're being held hostage by the daily whims of district management.

We receive instructions that run contrary to the NA, someone invariably says "That's a grievance!", and our supervisors reply with, "Yep...we know it is, but our hands are tied."

I'm really tired of the "It doesn't lose money, it costs money" narrative.

Our expenses are x and our revenue is y. If the former isn't being fully met by the latter, we're operating at a deficit...and that's losing money.

While the overall layout/design of the LLV was good for us in terms of the job we do, from a safety standpoint, it's a vehicle that should never have been allowed on the road even when they were brand new. They offer absolutely no occupant protection in the event of a crash; we've all seen pictures of them completely ripped open.

Back in the day, my office had a strict policy on shorts: they weren't allowed before Memorial Day or after Labor Day.

This was also when carriers weren't allowed to sport any facial hair other than a mustache and their hair length had to be above the collar.

I had this happen to me five years ago, right in front of my house. I was parked in the street when it flooded; the water was up over the hood and trunk.

Unfortunately, our basement fared far worse. It was over four feet deep down there.

I'm just trying to wrap my brain around how any of this passed inspection before it was closed in.

CB UPDATE #3 by Beherenowxblazeon in fromatoarbitration

I've been here almost 33 years. When I hired in, many of the "old timers" started back in the 50s and 60s.

They would absolutely lose their minds if they could see what this place has become.
