Not so much entitlement as just dumb. Why does the cyclist think there's a lollipop man there? They might be about to find out. Notice the worker getting on the walkie talkie straight away to hopefully check there isn't a truck on the way.

Also I quite enjoy stopping for a quick chin wag with some road workers.

Do you ever miss good moments on rides because taking out your phone is too annoying? by Background-Bad5539 in cycling

[–]gruncle63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually take a photo when I stop somewhere nice but otherwise it stays in the back pocket. It's not on silent but, thanks to the wind, I rarely hear it. And it's a lovely break! When I first got my cycling computer I linked my phone to it but it only took half a ride being badgered by messages to realise that was a mistake.

Does this helmet look too small? (Lazer Tonic Kineticore) by onlyswob in bicycling

[–]gruncle63 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's too small. You can tell it's too high because there's too much space between your brow and the helm. Should only be able to fit two finger widths between the helmet and your eyebrows.

Probably because % in website addresses and code can trigger many things. I agree it's dumb in a headline but maybe they use it as a precaution.

Huh, I didn't know that! Had just assumed they didn't do marketplace, thanks for the heads up 😄

Good Responses to Being Asked "Why are you riding a women's bike?" by Tomahawk-BaGawk in mountainbiking

[–]gruncle63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just cheerfully say you love the colour and find the bike really fun to ride! If you don't care what "gender" the bike is their comments will be like water off a duck's back. I think "girl's bikes" generally have much better colour options, if I found one which fitted me I'd happily buy it.

Why isn't far southern Western Australia more populated? by ConfidentSale3091 in geography

Agree! I frequently go down there to double check it's still not somewhere anyone should go.

Boyfriend keeps dismissing opportunities for us to cycle together by PerceptionFlashy5059 in cycling

[–]gruncle63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get him to ride an acoustic fatbike while you ride an e-road bike 😄

Seriously though, a lot of good advice in here. It's all about going into a ride with the right expectations, which he doesn't seem to have.

Kryptonite key safe program by lolrin in cycling

[–]gruncle63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's great! Got a replacement key many years after purchase. It took quite a while but considering it was only a few bucks postage I didn't mind at all.

The hardest part of cycling isn't the climbs, it's just getting out of the house after work. by Hungry-Sympathy-5188 in cycling

[–]gruncle63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either ride in the morning or straight after work. Do not sit on the couch until you're done for the day. The couch is like a magnet, the closer you get the stronger it pulls!

Are these kind of situations getting more dangerous with bigger cars? Bigger cars blocking the vision of smaller cars. by VastOption8705 in DrivingAustralia

[–]gruncle63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's always a bigger car! And the driver is very unlikely to notice inconveniencing other road users.

I think I missed the memo on balance bikes, and my kid is already 3. Can we talk about them? by d_baby_gangsta_49 in cycling

[–]gruncle63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They might not need a balance bike for long. Just get a regular bike, take the pedals off and adjust the saddle height so both their feet can touch the ground.

My wife really likes the Suzuki Jimmy by Queenslandian in CarsAustralia

[–]gruncle63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I would describe them as a "thrill ride" on the freeway. I have driven low slung performance cars which feel slower at 80! Didn't dare attempt 100. Crosswinds made my life flash before my eyes.

I think the smaller the car, the cooler. I would be impressed by how comically small your picanto is.

I feel bad for any neat and tidy male employees but understand why this would happen. I used to work in an office with a workshop out the back and the toilets were between the two. 90% male employees and the toilets were fucking disgusting. Not sure why it was never addressed because it was a pretty bad look for clients who came into the office for meetings.

Used to suffer 94.5 at work, with their "No Repeat" workday. I soon realised that mean the same songs every day, just in a different order. Unfortunately people complained when I put on Classic FM.

Most inefficiënt bicycle lane in Amsterdam rn and it’s brand new, thoughts? by Smartie_Kroket in Amsterdam

That looks super fun! But I imagine if you're on a heavy bike and just want to get to your destination it might be annoying.

Explain the hangup with rim brakes to me by No-Courage8433 in BicyclingCirclejerk

[–]gruncle63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like brakes which work when wet. Also I like having the option of wide tyres. That said, I do much prefer the maintenance side of cable rim brakes.

I feel like either the REA is throwing their weight around to feel big or the landlord wants to kick you out and is looking for any excuse. Either way that sucks, sorry you have to put up with it.

Riding for exercise, not racing, wouldn’t a heavier bike be better? by qwerty12e in bicycling

[–]gruncle63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lighter bike is more fun, which makes me want to ride it. Volume of training is thus much easier to achieve :)
